Engine Failure Workshop

Featured Replies

Car threw a fit tonight after a run down the M23 from Gatwick - "Engine Failure Workshop" comes up on the maxidot. I was just picking up the wife and heading to Sainsbury's in West Hove so it was a quick detour to Rivervale who are the Skoda Approved Agent. Pulled in and turned off - nice big rattle - that doesn't sound right! They got it up on the ramps and on first inspection reckon the front CAT has exited stage left.

Bless them - here I am pitching up at 5:30 with a sick Skoda and they managed to find me a Merc A-Class loaner (yuk!) and take the car in.

I wonder if this is a common prob?

Not wonderfully happy with only 15K on the clock..............

My Fiat Punto at least had the good grace to wait until 60K before chucking a MAF failure - so much for Skoda reliability!

15k, then it's under warranty no? I have had several Vrs and none have been bad and definately no major failure/issues, sorry to hear of yours, hope all ok when investigated further.....

I suppose I'm just a bit suprised thats all and this in conjunction with the fact that the car has become absolutely full of rattles is leading me to think about moving it on pretty sharpish.

I'm genuinely disappointed at the fact that a five year old Fiat had less creaks and goans than my 1 yr old octy and the cat going south (if its proved to be that) is rather poor in my book.

Lets hope its only the cat............emoticon-0124-worried.gif

Fingers crossed for you mate! I'm also starting to wonder if I made the right choice. Mine has done 13,000 and has been in the Skoda/VW workshop for going on 3 weeks now. Only took it in for a service and it's ended up with a huge clutch/gearbox oil leak issue, and now they're STILL scratching their heads over an air mass meter/ECU issue. Not a good advert for Happy Drivers eh?!

I've just had a new gearbox at 8 months old/20k miles! That made me a less than happy driver at the time but I have to say it was fixed to my satisfaction, no quibbles and it's as good as new, so I'm happy again.

Bob.

I am now on Skoda number 3.

1st Octy vRS MK1, sold at 54K with nothing going wrong.

2nd Octy PD140 MK2, sold at 99K with only a 50p sensor failing.

3rd Superb2 PD140 DSG, 30K now and nothing gone wrong yet.

Just had the call from the workshop. Weird but the CAT is no longer rattling. That said they are going to replace it anyway just to be sure. The thing thats causing the fault is .........wait for it...........oil in the circuit board of the EGR valve! Apparently thr tech disconnected and oil poured out. Looks like a dodgy seal so they are replacing that too!

Seems like a weird one to me but hey, somebody tell me otherwise please!

No I've seen it happen on the EGR and the throttle body valve below that.

If the butterfly control circuit fills with oil (which it can) then the thing fails and will need replacing.

Apparently the wiring loom was full of oil

OK, got the car back and thank F**K I've not had to pay for the repair!

Strike one throttle body and one DPF!! The Throttle body potentiometer was literally full of oil and the DPF was rattling like a bag of bolts.

Apparently replacing the DPF is a complete and utter PITA and I can't even repeat Matt's comments regarding the "how to" from Skoda!

Huge thanks go to Matt the Skoda Tech and Steven in Service at Rivervale in Portslade, Sussex. Matt is such an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guy that its reassuring he's the one working on my car.
