Buying a remapped ECU

Featured Replies

Hi, i can get a second hand remapped ecu for my fabia VRS, im just curios as to is it as simple as changing ecu`s, and changin them back when i want to sell the car, and their will be no evidence of the different ecu being plugged into the car??

Or will it show when its pluged into vagcom??

Also, is it a big job changing the ecu??

Many thanks..

Stephen

You can't just change the ECU.

You either need the PIN for both ECUs and to rematch the ECU to the car every time you swap, or to have the immobiliser killed on the new ECU which will allow it to run without key authorisation.

We can provide the PIN or kill the immobiliser for you if you require.

Cheers

But the money for ecu+ de imobilising would be mutch better spent on one of your fine remaps tho

I would rather not have the immobiliser killed, how can you get a pin for the ecu?? What is the charge?? I would only be changing it over the once, and then back when selling. But will it effect anything else, or will the remap be shown up if checked when it is put back onto the standard ECU??

Thanks..

You can remove remaps from an ECU I believe, but be a better bet than changing hardware around.

i have my re-map taken off everytime i go back to dealers had no problems and i know they have checked for a re-map aswell.

so cant be any trace found as all the requested boost levels etc. are reset to standard

also why would you want another ecu why not just remap ur ecu and leave it and then go back to the company who has done the remap and get them to put it back to standard when its time to sell up

You just need the immo chip on your old ECU reading, then an exact copy of this writing onto the SOIC8 immo chip on your remapped ECU, this way both ECU's will still work and they both still have an active immobiliser. The ECU is very easy to get out on a fabia so in a few minutes you could swap them over. Might just depend on who remapped the ECU, companys like REVO also write data to the same chip as the immo but 95% of remaps on these cars are only written to the psop44 and any immo probs are easy to sort out.

Dont think any sign of a remap would be detected once the original ECU was installed again, anyway these EDC15 dont have a flash counter so once reset all trace is erased.

Assuming both ECUs are 100% the same HW/SW numbers and it's not a Revo or APR map, yes.

Well I couldn't have said that better myself Gary ;)

Because i can buy a ECU for £150 already remapped, so its cheaper than remaping my ECU, and means i can sell it on when im finished with it..

Thanks for all the info guys..

What's the remap though? All remaps are far from equal.

stick with what you have all ecu's are different so you might get auto-locking etc, and no one touch indicators

stop being a cheap skate and do it properly

Its got nothing to do with being a cheap skate, look at it like this...

Spend £200 getin my car mapped, and then wiping it when selling the car,

Spend £120 on a already remapped ecu, have a remapped car, when selling the car flog it on for £100.

How does trying to save myself £180 make me a cheap skate??

I know I said the ECU was going for £150 but i wouldnt pay that for it..

Is it a Stage 1 or generic map?

If not, it could prove very expensive adding all those upgrades

Sorry yes i never said about hardware and software number, presumed the gu would have checked these already, not like you even need remove any covers on a fabia to see them. Also hardware is important but SW on these is reasonably cross compatable

Its remapped to 180 by a well known tuner.. Yea that is the thing, will need to see how much it is to get it to work in the car.. Think ill ring the company that tuned it and see what they think.. Thanks again for any input:D

180bhp, what kinda map? Don't really want a clutch killer. For the sake of a couple of hundred quid I'd rather not have the problems if it were me tbh

Neither of which are anything to do with the engine ECU.

On a somewhat related situation... I'm looking at a VRS which I quite want to buy and it has had a custom remap to about 180-190bhp with uprated clutch and sm flywheel, milltek cat back system, 160 intake and forge FMIC. The thing is that I'd like to make it more reasonable to insure if I buy it and I'd considered taking the remap off. The other option would be to get another ECU running at standard or maybe mapped for max fuel economy which I could switch into it for the mean time allowing me to pop back in the custom high power map if I went to a track day or in a few years when I have more NCB. Does this sound sensible? My concern is that the current map will be optimised to all the other engine mods and that a standard map wouldn't run that nicely.

I specifically want this particular car because it is a minter and has leather interior.

I have no other details of the map.. Thats a good point, probably best just getting my ecu remapped..

What's wrong with the revo maps as I am sure amd Essex do them? If they are a standard downloadable map (No RR required) this would be the best option if changing the ecu?
