Some Flagship

My 2011 car has no brolly no mats no warning triangle and no first aid kit. All available for 50 quid each. Cheapskates! Kerrrching! Skoda. emoticon-0149-no.gif

Technically it is the flagship of the range, and is much better equipped than the other models in the skoda range.

Warning triangle and first aid kit are not required here in the UK, so they dont and never have included them in the superb spec here. The only thing thats been removed is the umbrella, and because its on the passenger side (designed for LHD) is all but useless here in the UK because you get wet rerieving it from the car. Those parts maybe £50 each, so £150 say for each car but multiply that by thousands and the savings in car production soon add up. The current profit on the Superb to Skoda is almost nil, hence the reduction in kit.

I have an ex. skoda UK 2009 MY car and it has a first aid kit and warning triangle as optional extras, and the umbrella that has not been used since I bought the car.

As Skoda CZ has a new chairman expect the spec to be altered and even more kit removed as standard because VW are not happy that sales of the Superb are exceeding their passat because its currently a lot cheaper and better equiped (hence low profit margin). Especially because Skoda is meant to be the budget end of the market.

The warning triangle was actually included on the MKI Superb.

As for the umbrella I too innitially thought like you do, but it was pointed out that on a LHD car the umbrella is still on the passenger side of the car, as it was designed to keep the passengers dry and not the driver.

I can't believe you negotiated a purchase and couldn't persuade the dealer to throw in mats for free.

No idea what the margin is on the Superb - for Skoda or the dealer - but there have been numerous postings recently about VW Group apparently being unhappy that the Superb is eating into Passat sales, which are almost certainly higher margin. Very difficult balancing act for VW with so many brands in their ownership now, and presumably the bosses of those brands all wanting to make as good a car as they can within target price ranges.

I take all your points onboard. I have to say I'm not bothered about the brolly. However I do think car mats should be standard especially with the Elegance spec. It still is a great car. Car mats on order. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Dealer refused to budge on the mats. The brolly was something that didn't bother me too much. It's pretty useless in the UK. You get wet going around the car to get it! emoticon-0148-yes.gif

The Triangle was standard in the Mk I, it had a dedicated fitting position in the boot lid. Umbrella was also standard.

My Mk II had a safety triangle in a plastic case supplied, fitted in rear of boot, and held in by fitting straps, it also had an umbrella.

A safety triangle part No. GGA700001A £13.28.

Umrella part No. MKA800001 £35.50 ( note this is for the Mk II and is smaller than the Mk I. ) I believe that some of the later Mk II vehicles no longer have an umbrella fitting in the door.

Both these parts available from Skoda Dealers.

Bloody hell, I got my Superb on Motability and I still managed to twist the dealer's arm into providing mats. I had to ask twice, but he knew he wasn't getting a signature without them. Easy really. :p

Some figures I posted in an earlier thread...

vw-looks-to-rein-in-skoda-to-prevent-sales-cannibalisation

In 2009 VW passenger cards made €600M on sales of 4M cars which represented 0.9% of sales (operating profit). Skoda made €203M on sales of 0.7M cars, and made 2.9% operating profit.

All figures were worse than 2008, but Skoda always made a higher margin.

Passat globally outsold the Superb by a factor of 14x. Passat increased slightly 2008-2009, but the Superb doubled.

the picture is not that simple !

I'm getting:

  • Free interior mats
  • Free rubber bootliner
  • Free front & rear mud flaps
  • Free warning triangle
  • Free Xenon spare bulb kit

All covered by my £150 late delivery compensation. However I'm sure you wouldn't swap all the above for the exceptionally short lead-time you had. :)

Best regards

David

Thanks! Really informative post  I Wonder when the Superb gets level with the passat? Amazing why people choose it in the first place, and not go for the obvious best choice; a Skoda Superb!

Too true David, but car mats, and good quality ones too, should be in the Elegance spec. Enjoy your car when it arrives, for sure you will it is brilliant. Best wishes, Phil S.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Loving that foamy style paint job.... :giggle:

Warning triangle and first aid kit,...................... so they dont and never have included them in the superb spec here.

The warning triangle was indeed standard equipment on the Superb in the UK! If you look in the January 2010 brochure you will see it plainly listed. It was removed for the May 2010 brochure!

Thanks Phil, it has been built at last and is on it's way to Emden. :)

This must surley be a problem with your dealer, I found my dealer pitched in mats, boot rubber lining, first-aid kit and even 1-litre of oil without me asking/demanding for these. Interestingly, When I bought my Golf GTI I had to pay extra for rubber mats. Skoda - Volkswagen 1 - 0.

ATEOTD it inevitably all come down to what price you have paid for the car, if you have screwed the dealer right down to almost zero profit then don't expect to get anything 'thrown in' FOC, but if he still has a healthy profit in the car then yes you can push for them.

IT all comes down to "the cost to change" it makes no difference if you have had £1k's worth of extras 'thrown in' FOC or got negotiated an extra £1k of the car's screen price and paid for the extras.

  • 2 weeks later...

Company car drivers have to pay tax on the complete price of the vehicle when bought, including options. However, any option fitted after purchase, under £100 does not need to be declared. So, it is better to order the car without the cheaper options, and get the company to buy them after delivery. The company pays the same, but the driver pays less tax. Not saying this is the reason, but it could be.

I hate to say you arent getting anything free , you are paying a lot of money for the car getting a few bits thrown in might seem like they are free but they are a sprat to catch a mackerel

Hmm, I see your point; but they are things I would have had to pay out real money for if the car hadn't been so damn long in being delivered. ( I was also trying to wind Phil up a bit :giggle:, not that it suceeded ).

.... and I'm still waiting. :envy: To cap it all my Honda has now got a cracked front windscreen that needs to be replaced :( .

Takes more than that to wind me up. emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

I did get a massive discount on ordering, but my point is still car mats should not be an extra on Elegance spec.

Any road up I have now bought, car mats, mud flaps and boot liner.

...... and I have suck a T-K Max brolly in the hole!

Enjoy you cars guys

Phil emoticon-0148-yes.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

I bought my warning triangle and first aid kit from local skoda dealer for 15 squid. aA few extra squid saw the bulb kit added. Hardly expensive.

I used my brolly this morning, still got a bit wet even though the steering wheel is on the wrong (left) side..... 2 seconds as opposed to 5 seconds once you get out of the car isn't really making much difference! Not sure what the first aid kit rules are in the UK, but here in CZ it needs to be replaced each year, it's the law....
