Gran Turismo 5 finally has a release date

Featured Replies

Got my copy from Th'Asda this evening. Only I can't play it as I ain't got the required tellybox. I was gonna use my PC monitor but it ain't HDCP compliant, and all forms of games console have been banished from the lounge. Doh!

Can you use the PSP as a rear view mirror? And the box says 'enhanced with PS eye camera'. How so? Anyone tried it in 3D?

mate was meant to get it today but never arrived from play, he is hoping it will come tomorrow and a day of him trying to beat me has been arranged!!

I have to say I kinda had a feeling it was going to be a let down after the amount of release date changes and then all of a sudden its out. Personally I think its been rushed to get it out before forza4 comes out next year. Will soon find out tomorrow with any luck.

p.s. if it had skoda's I'd buy a ps3 and the game, but for now I will stick with my xbox and forza

Read somewhere the Eye camera toy thing was so if you moved your head, it would pick up on this and move the camera view around accordingly.

Great! Except then you're not looking at the screen.

I was trying to work that one out too... If I turn my head to the left then the screen shows that view? Shame I'll be looking at the fireplace...

Saw the eye cam settings and decided to leave well alone emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Ha ha thats the best one I've heard in ages :rofl:

Rushed ......:rofl::rofl:

I also find the viewing of cars from the used dealership to be a pain in the backside, its just a list. if you want to see what they look like you have to go into each individual one. not impressed, its not the most user friendly layout

Did you try the 'change view' button?

I guess I'm the first to say that I like the game! It's a lot like GT4, which is a great game, only better.

How many of you lot have an Xbox and a PS3 ?

How many of you lot have an Xbox and a PS3 ?

I certainly do, Multi-platform is definitely the way to go.

XBox360, PS3, WII, PS2, PSP, NDS, gamer comps (yes I am still a kid, with a kid emoticon-0136-giggle.gif )

All you guys complaing about the lack of cars........... un lock them through the game and i also hear there are endless downloadable car packages.

Will be picking my copy up tonight and now i am missing a PS3 a preowned one :giggle:

Collected two copies yesterday, ankle biter and I gave it a good go, I'm now level 7 with a tuned impreza 450bhp, s**te brakes and standard tyres, ankle biter level 7and saving up for an SLS. Major problems last night with it freezing and requiring rebooting frequently, no chance of anything online until 1am this morning I guess problems with the server? which is a shame as we primarily bought it to go head to head on independent screens Hopefully this will settle down as the online looks promising.

Thanks for the comment guys, I was so worried I waited too long for a flop of a game..! :p

Im surprised it doesn't have the Skoda cars.... surely it will be on a download pack!

Seat Ibiza Cupra '04

Closest i could find :giggle:

Got this today and im very underwhelmed . It doesnt look any better than forza 3, only thing i have noticed over forza is the spoiler on the R8 pops up when you reach the required speed other than that it's forza for the ps3. Roll on forza 4 next year should be an improvement over this anyday. Also the load times once installed are only slightly better .

very underwhelmed so far here too, if anything I'd say it looks/feels like GT4 in HD. not had it long, but Forza 3 is a massively better play/drive

Only 20% (200) of the cars are high detail "premium" cars, the others are "standard" cars that are from previous GT versions re-hashed to high-res. I think they would have been better leaving them out all together, it just spoils the game. I prefer the in car view and you can not have this with them. Otherwise enjoying it a lot and love the go karts!

Couldn't wait for the Play.com one which still not come yet! So went to shop for it and OMG its crap. Forza 3 all way.

I think GT series has had its day. I think the intro vid and a lot of the guchi looking stuff could of been simplified to make room for more stuff like better cars and tracks. Also what is with the square block shaddows? Personally GT 3 was the best one and its gone down hill from there. The drivability is no as nice as Forza. For me GT5 is like windows 7, stunning to look at but pointless when win 98 works better. If you get that. Forza 3 is more simple and doesn't look as good asthetically but the game play makes up for it.

The one thing I don't like about GT series is the licence thingn forza is just get the xp and cars and go.

I think the GT crew and Forza lot should collaborate and come up with one game that's a mix of them both for both xstation and playbox.

I sue hope the driving line goes away on higher levels too? Managed to re-assign the accel and brake to the triggers tho.

I tgink that this is a game you need to play and stick with. I personally can't play them both, only got the ps3 for this, thank god for Red dead redemption and the blue ray capabiluity lol. Ill stick to forza I think. Even tho I've "repaired" it lol.

The problem that GT5 has is that everyone was expecting the game to look like the pictures that Sony released, the problem being the pictures were not ingame photos but pre-rendered ones so that it looked real. GT5 is a decent looking game but for the length of time it was in development it should look better than Forza 3 but it looks the same. I think Forza 4 will be a lot better than GT5 when its released next year the ingame videos and tech demos of it so far look great. One thing i cant understand about GT5 though is they allow you to modify your car but you cant improve the brakes  . im still playing it at the moment but its starting to irritate me with the whole license thing and the loading times are still poor but not as bad as they were, i may have to trade it in which is something i have never done with any game

Agreed there, not only that but the car I got from the used lot is a std car, I can mod it n tune it and only put a wing on back but can't change the alloys? Every car on there should be modable and kitable, if not what's the point in having it on there? I think they intended to do all this but due to forza coming along and steeling the thunded they jus closed it all up and threw it out as is. Doesn't feel finished to me. GT3 had more a better choice of cars to me, It doesn't even have the AM V8, DBS, or even the V12 vantage? Jus the crappy DB9 lol, poor show to me.

I'm still waiting for the console and game to be delivered :dull: by Play. they took the cash and had it packing for 3 days, I got an email saying it could be tracked and should have been delivered yesterday, but on the tracking website they say they have collected parcel but under delivery status it shows as awaiting receipt of parcel :S

Not sure if this means it is awaiting being landed at a depot on the mainland or if Play are pulling a fast one, I think they have had real issues over stock but have pumped orders through to the packing status stage so that the order can't be cancelled and the business moved elsewhere. Doubt I will use Play again for anything after this debacle.

same here, I wont be using them again. still nothing and its been a week since it should of been here, dont know whats goiin on, Have they changed from RM then? or are they still using them?

.

.

.Think Ill go to Amazon now, similar prices really. Only use Play for DL mp3 lol

Not to try a Forza vs GT thing but I preferred the way the GT has its 'career mode' because its much more realistic, you really need to slug away the hours to get a mediocre car :giggle:.

I've had a go at the 3D-ness of GT5 in PC world (couldn't resist!) graphics looks a little better than prologue, cant really see whats the big fuss about this 3D-ness, its not like revolutionary imo but I suppose its another gadget for the people who can afford it ;). Anyway, I found.. bumping seems improved, AI seems similar to GT5p, lots more tracks.

Interested to see if anything gets ported over from GT5p (played up to S Class), will also be interested in this modifying car business.. they better have improved it from GT3-4!

again not on the GT/Forza war, but you are comparing 2 different style of driving games.

GT has and always will be a driving Simulator!

Forza is a driving/Tuning game.

i mean look at the handling and contol of all the different cars in GT! ............ 5 is WAY more advanced than 4.......... a little dissapointed with the graphics but its the Gameplay we are after arent we?

I have been without a games console and not wanted one for about 2 years and i said to myself when this came along i would get another PS3 and im soo glad i did!

25th, didnt get to bed till 1.

26th, after work and sorting My Ps3 bed at 1:30 as couldent keep my eyes open (Dont drive tired kids)

today, been on it about 3 hours after washing my real car. will prob do a couple more races after dinner :)

Alls im going to say is TOP WORK!

You don't have to do the licences in GT5, they're just another way of earning experience and winning cars.

The main problem with it is the expectation. It took about 5hrs of gameplay to stop being critical and realise I'm having quite a lot of fun playing it! And that's the important thing in my opinion.

I hate to disagree, but thats complete rubbish.

They are both driving simulators, they both have extensive tuning stuff, Forza is direct competition for GT.

I would honestly say GT5 and Forza 3 are on par with each other. Had the 360 been supplied with Bluray, rather than DVD, then i think all the things holding Forza back (quantity of content, graphics, etc), would have given Forza 3 a straight win.

Hmm.. I see VRSunroofs point - FZ1 & 2 (haven't played 3 so I cant comment) is very easy to pick up, even with all options off its fairly forgiving driving experience. So it concentrates more on the drive rather than precision, whereas GT5p its much less so. You have all options off and simulation mode, one would need to really concentrate just staying on the road at speed let alone race lol. Read a couple of reviews implying that GT5 is steering towards driving sim and out of tuning unlike fz3.

I'll be getting my copy of gt5 tonight, so I'll comment further later :D

I've only played a couple of hours of GT5 so far, and it's ok but not an earth shattering leap over Forza 3.

The graphics are good but not leagues ahead and the huge number of cars is pretty irrellevant as there's only so many you need.

I'll give it a few more hours before making my mind up - maybe once I've got some quicker cars and some weather I'll be a bit more impressed.

A big plus point in Forza 3's favour is the way it restricts you to cars in a certain range for each event. Your vehicle is always of a similar performance to the computer cars so you can be pretty sure of a challenge.

In GT5 so far my car always seem to be much slower away from the line but then it's pretty easy to nip past everyone on lap 1 and then it's just a procession around the track. Again, I'm hoping it may show a better balance after a while but from memory the older GT games always used to let you enter a Skyline into far too many races.

The online racing would be an ideal solution, but it sounds like there's no decent matchmaking so you get pitted against 1000bhp monsters no matter what you drive.
