Estate car lust

Featured Replies

Is it because i am now mid thirtes that this strange feeling has come over me? Ialways vowed i would never have an estate car no matter what.didn't like them and that was that.

For the past year or so I have lusted after A4 avants. The performance versions especially. The Octy's look great in all there guises.I like the V70's and love the doc's AMG merc(out of my price range though ;) )Now there is the(is it a volvo front merc rear?)new octavia estate which some it seems have already ordered.it looks great

Thought this would happen to me later in life.Just out of interest how old are you estate owners out there? did you buy from a practical point of view first or based on the looks of an estate?I am seriously considering an estate but am waiting to see the latest vrs before i do anything.the other thing is that i do have an enormous amont of room in the boot as it is.

Thanks

I have an Octy vRS Estate. I found at the age of 29 I started lusting after A4 Estates too - and Audi RS estates when I'm dreaming.

Maybe it is an age thing!!

I have to carry big boxes for work so practicality was a consideration, but i genuinely preferred the looks of the estate.

I'm 30 now BTW!

I'm 24 and bought ours do transport the dog. I know it would have fitted in a hatch but then you dont get the curtain to pull over when you have stuff in the boot that isnt' the dog. IMO the estate Octy looks nicer, with the hatch looking a little dated at the rear.

Its also great for moving DIY stuff around, so far it has managed to easily swallow 3 domestic appliances and a wardrobe!

Bought mine for practicality, looks, performance and ego!

Personally, love the A4 avant. My brother has it in the S-line and it looks even better than an S4 imho.

Pity it doesn't go like one too.....

Oh, I'm 31 btw.

I was 41 when I had my L&K estate. I chose it because of my huge thirst for good cheap wine, which meant lots of cross channel trips.

The only drawback really was the slightly higher noise levels from the rear end. This was overriden by the ability to get 6 internal doors in the back!

I'm 26 and bought my estate because I liked it. The main appeal was the 4wd and the colour, didn't see any black 4x4 hatchbacks so it wasn't really an option.

I'm 28, was 25 when I bought the octy.

I had a Citroen ZX volcane before, so with kids just wanted more space.

I also love the idea (not so shocking now) of a Skoda estate with baby seats that upsets people.. it's even worse than just a skoda...

I started to lust after an Octy Estate about this time last year, aged 25....specfically a PD130 in Elegance trim, black, natch.

Sadly, I'm consigned to driving the same engine in a VW, which doesn't even have a decent sized boot opening. on a supposedly large family saloon

I don't have an estate, but i can see the appeal. i don't think anyone can say they don't like the A4 Avant, especially the performance one (RS4 I think).

Performance estates are just sheep in wolfs clothing, remember the Volvo 850 T5. I can just imagine the panic on a chav's face as his mates laugh while he is desperately, but unsuccessfully trying to loose a T5.

The thought of getting your ass whipped by an estate  thats not the sort of thing you want to brag about down at the local cruise.:rofl:

I have a lot of respect for performance estates.

22 here and I love estates but am forced to drive a saloon, one day I will get another though.

im 45 and have chosen estates for many years - mainly on a practical consideration. The load carrying, ease of loading are important but also, when scrutineering on a wet day having to back open gives a very nice sheltered place to sit / use for paperwork with out water getting everywhere :)

last time i had to have a salloon i hated it-just couldn't get on with it but we all have differing needs

"wolf in sheep's clothing"

A Sheep in wolf's clothing would be a saxo 1.1 with a respray n bodykit... :D

I did briefly think of putting "Wolf in sheep's clothing" on the bottom of my number plates - but cant' decide if that's a little too Chav!

I must admit, it's happening to me too. I don't know if it's the arrival of the baby, but whenever I start thinking about cars, it always seems to be stuff like the Legacy Spec B estate, V70 R, ZT-T 260, S4/RS4/RS6 Avant, Galant VR-4 estate, etc...

Time was when estate cars were boxy and frequently rubbish. Now they are frequently more stylish than their saloon car counterparts.

23 and it has crossed my mind once or twice did i make the right choice in going for a hatch back.... i relly do like the estates...espcially EddyH's....

38 just now got an a4 avant 4 years ago - its gone back the the company now - got an 2L TDI elegance octy estate on order.

Had to get the estate as the a4 was saloon or estate. Didnt want a saloon and I could get more toys with the avant as it had a lower lease cost.

Or my nephew's old Astra -1 1.4 Merit which had been done up to look like a GTE.

He saw the light, and he's on his second Corrado G60 now.....

26 When I got mine...I grew up with the estates and always found them very practicle, especially when you have to lug around mountains of speakers etc...

I am 48 and had estates since the 80s, the 1980s that is, and had an octy estate for 3 years before my present mode of fun .................how else can you transport a whole chest freezer with the door closed

and water doesn't run into the boot when you open the door

I'm 33, have had the Octy Estate for 1 year now. I had a estate a few years ago, then had a saloon car, but couldn't live with the lack of boot space. I have 3 lads, but also knew I needed a estate as we all go camping. I love it, the car, & the getting out with my lads, for just putting things / shopping ect. in its just so easy.I would not go smaller. But Then I do use the extra room.

I notice Jimmy hasn't replied, so i'll save him the bother..

  • 2 weeks later...

27 and on my 3rd estate (1 S4 and 2 RS4's) best moment to date was ****ing all over some guy in a 355 who looked at me like I was stuck to the bottom of his shoe.

Based on your sig it's no surprise you went past a few hehehe ;)
