Anyone using DSG in tiptronic?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone of you guys uses the DSG in the tiptronic mode. I mean, not for occasional driving on curvy, steep roads, etc, but for everyday driving. Do you find it possible? Convenient? If you do, why do you drive it like that and if you don't why not?

All best,

krko

I rarely use it manually, simply because it's so damn smooth as a semi-auto, and it makes for a very relaxing drive :)

As you say, it can be good to use it in manual on twisty roads with tight corners, where the box can be caught out on occasions, but those occasions are very few and far between

I use mine pretty much all the time even in traffic.

i've done it to see what it's like.

found it's very like a waste of time and effort.

Interesting I found in traffic in manual mode that the gearbox is to keen to select 1st when slowing down, in Drive it appears to hold 2nd longer making pulling aware again smoother.

i use it now and again when i want the car to stay in a higher gear when decending a hill. What i have noticed though is that when i ask it to change up, there is a delay which isnt there when in full auto. Its not bad though. Usually i always use the full auto as it is faultless!

Me too. 6 speed DSG has a habit of hanging on to 3rd gear when I want it change to forth especially around 30 mph. DSG is quite intelligent, am getting the 7 speed on the weekend, with paddles so will be able to compare the 6 and 7 speed DSGs soon.

I use the 'Drive' and 'Sport' Mode on Auto

I have used the paddles but find it smoother in Auto

Its useful to change down with the paddles when you want a quick bit of acceleration for overtaking...saves kicking it down

I agree with you on that one, around town always in drive, unless I've forgotten to put it back into drive after flappy mode. Which I only use on the motorway and twisty stuff
