Is the 1.8TSi available in base spec then?

Hi,

if you have maxidot then you may have a vehicle built before WK45/09, as no Yeti had this function until then; or are you not in the UK :wonder: From what I've read then I don't think it can be retro fitted.

Are people getting confused here?

There is no gauge, but a reading on the Maxidot, if you have that.

Hello, did a litlle research... It doesn't matter if you have maxi dot or board computer. The only thing important is that you do not have qg0 marked as service interval (as I do). I am going to the dealer to have it changed to qg2.

Sorry, but what has that got to do with the oil temp?

It doesn't make sence to me either...but this is what I found:

0 - Firm interval without indicator for oil level/temperature (QG0)

1 - Flexible interval with indicator for oil level/temperature (QG1)

2 - Firm interval with indicator for oil level/temperature (QG2)

3 - Vehicles without service interval announcement (the USA, Canada)

But what does your Yeti having a lack of an oil gauge have anything to do with which service regime its been set to from the factory? The two things are totally independant and not connected in any way.

One of the maxidot functions on 2010 + cars was the oil temperature so if you have maxidot it should be in there Id have thought.

My car is 2010 model, but it is not uk spec. Here we can buy a car with or without maxidot. According to the manual even without maxidot there I shoul see oil temp among other things (average speed, outside temp, consuption etc) but I do not. So I searched the internet and found out that if QG0 is set than you do not see the oil temp. Why is that so? I do not know...

Thanks for that greg, but it does seem strange.

It might help giving advice if you put your location in your details.

A country is better than nothing.

We can also spec the Yeti with or without maxidot depending on spec level and options. So you are saying that depending on how the car is set from the factory ie fixed or variable servicing sets whether or not you have the option of viewing the oil temperature within maxidot?

Hi again,

as previously stated vehicle had to be built from early November 2009 on. Have come across at least one UK September 09 built Yeti which was not registered until March 2010. This being a dealer stock 1.8TSI that did not sell, so they registered it as a demo.

That's what my dealer told me at pickup. I'd initially asked for it to be set to fixed, but was then informed about the fixed/variable oil gauge visibility so it was reset to variable before I drove away. And I have the oil temp visible.

So when mine is serviced and swapped over to fixed (which is what I'll be requesting) my oil temperature will vanish from the maxidot?! This is a function I regularly look at!

If this is indeed the case then maybe Id be better leaving the actual setting to variable and just taking it in 12 months for the service?

That was my conclusion too. Can't see much downside to that. In any event I'm not comfortable leaving more than 12 months between the vehicle being inspected in some detail during the service.

Hi,

my wife's Fabia II FL is on fixed service intervals from factory and has the oil temp indicator  doesn't start reading until 50 deg C mind.

Do you know if there is an "acceptable" oil temperature range for the Yeti 1.2 TSi? My new Yeti seems to run about 90 but (so far) goes up to 95 on long motorway climbs, ambient temp is about 16 at the moment. I assume that in the height of summer fully loaded on a steep incline the oil temp might well go much higher so needing to be run gently for a few minutes before being switched off to help the turbo lubrication.

Not too many years ago oil temp gauge was never thought of. On my Yeti the oil temp varies from 90 odd to 128 being the highest I have ever seen it, not sure what I am supposed to do if it goes up and down, I suppose hot weather will influence what it reads and so on.

I don't know what the safe the operating window is for oil either, so I just leave the display on average mpg and that usually shows 42 ish

The first time I looked for and found the oil temp on my maxidot (is that what we call the little steering-wheel controlled computer screen between Tacho & Speedo?) I was doing 104km/h and the oil temp was 104 dec C. It was just a coincidence, and adds absolutely nothing to this thread, nor does it help anyone, nor may anyone find it remotely interesting/important/relavant ... but I thought the odds were pretty slim and felt like sharing since I'm procrastinating at work this morning.

In terms of temperature range, mine usually settles between mid 90's in the winter over here and upto a max of 116 so far (40+ degrees doing mountain driving in the Costa Blanca with a fully loaded car).

I bought a base equipted yeti and do not have oil temp. gauge. Is it possiblle that I somehow retorfit this feature?

You dont need it, it's only something else to worry about.

Most modern cars dont have one so its a mystery as to why they put one in the Yeti.

I couldn't disagree more tbh. Ive always found having the water temperature as the primary or only temperature gauge in a vehicle less valuable than oil temperature. Mine is always set to display oil temp. so I know where the engine is in terms of warming up and in terms of how hard/efficiently it's working. I've never ever pushed mine before it's over 90 degrees. The water temp. gauge can be up to temperature when the oil is still down at 50 degrees. As I say, I find it very useful indeed. :-)

Ah but you could achieve the same effect by just taking it easy for the first 15 mins from a cold start.

Ask yourself the question if you didn’t have an oil gauge would you really bother putting one in?

According to the VAG code website:

QG0=Without service interval prolongation

QG1=Service prolongation

QG2=No possibilety of service interval prolongation.
