Cambelt change on Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

According to the service schedule, the cambelt is renewed @ 100,000 miles.

Is this correct?

I'm sure the seatcupra.net guys have replaced the cambelt on their PD 130 engines @ 60,000 miles.

Got a fair few miles before the cambelt change, so I'm OK for now! :)

I will be replacing mine at 60k miles, cannot afford a broken belt.

Stick with 60k miles - far cheaper that way ;)

So why would it state 100K in the service book?

As long as you have it serviced every 10K then their should be no problem with it having done at 100k. If it needs changing before hand then the dealer should spot it at its service.

Maybe sounds daft but you sure it doesn't say 100k km (approx 60k miles)?

Defo in miles (150K Km)

Taken from Service schedule:-

93750 miles ;) to be precise

My way of thinking is this - generally manufacturers start off high, or very high, on these figures.

Then they get a few broken ones at those higher numbers and start reducing the recommended change intervals down.

You are quite right however, the service books states a big number still :D

I never trust service books, best to check with your garage (dealer) at every service.

As you say, if you get it serviced every 10k miles and indeed get it inspected, you SHOULD be fine..

It states 100,000 miles except ATD engine. The ATD is the 100 bhp PD engine, which has the same interval as the 130 BHP PD engine which is 60,000 miles. Its just that the books havent been updated to include the 130 bhp PD thats all.

The fact that it lists the ATD as a petrol i think is wrong, im sure Jason will tell me he has an ATD engien shortly, pretty sure he does.

so the dealer can see all the way around the cambelt and check the tenioners on a 0.7 hr service then can he?

there is only one real way of fully checking the cambelt and thats to take it off and look at it so it might aswell be changed then.

Yep pretty sure it's an ATD - I had my cambelt done at 60k, as per the book :D Just to add, I'm not sure the inspection service will cover the cambelt as it's a bugger to get to as it is at least a couple of hours labour to change...
