Different alarm sounds

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm not sure if it's the same with all the snowmonsters, but the sounds of the alarm for locking and unlocking on mine are the same (short beep/tick). I think that's rather poor idea as you cannot tell if had pressed the wrong button by mistake (which may happen, especially when using gloves). The alarm on my Vento used to have different sounds for locking/unlocking and it saved me on several occasions :) Does anyone knows if this can be altered via Maxidot (as far as I know - not) or by Skoda service?

One more question - can the autolock function be set to lock the doors when driving above certain speed, so I don't have to press the button in the central console every time I drive off?

In my SM the autolock activates when I get to about 5mph without me doing anything (other than drive the beast).

No idea about your other q, and I can see what you mean. If it is locked, and as you walk away you think "did I lock it?" and you press the fob again, but this time by mistake you 'unlock' it, the sound you hear will be the same and you will think it locked when in fact you have left an unlocked car. Hmmmm. not good. And I think I may actually have done that myself!

Must go and check it now (scuttles off in a cloud of christmas cards and envelopes).

puff pant - and I am back again.

There's a correction needed here.

Locking produces a single squirty noise, whilst 'unlocking' produces the same sound BUT, get this, TWICE.

And so we have a solution. We turn up the hearing aids and polish the spectacles (because the winkers wink one wink or two winks to match the squeaks.)

Sorted, yes? (picks up stamps, cards, packets and envelopes and starts all over again... ... ... tho the excitement and the exercise were really good).

(PS - What's a Vento? Sounds like a Scottish drink... ....)

Thanks Freshacre! :)

I really have to examine this more carefully next time! Maybe it's because I was used to get two completely different tunes - one ""to-to-tee" and one ""tooo-te-te-tuuu", that why I'm considering these two identical :)

And on the Vento topic - I think it's a beautiful name for a car, and it means "wind", or a type of wind, as most VW cars do. It's a Golf3 with a trunk, in fact :) It's known as Jetta at some places.

Is that an Elegance thing? I have an SE and it does not do this, nor can I see how to change it on Maxidot.

The beep for the locking, unlocking can be silenced with the maxidot, but I am not aware that the tone can be altered.

The auto locking of the doors can also be set to operate or not with the maxidot.

I can't vouch for SE, as mine is an Elegance as well and does as danbarnes states.

Autolock works on the SE Maxidot, you just have to search for it. It's in there somewhere!

Remember it is key specific so you have to do it for each key.

@ Freshacre - you're absolutely correct, it's two "ticks" vs one, so no more problem for me :) Just had to tune my ears.

I've also changed the autolock function on the Maxidot (under Convenience) - now it works exactly as I wanted - when I reach over 15km/h it locks the doors, and when I remove the key from the keyfob, it unlocks them! Thank you all for the hints!

autolock works on my S model too

To set your car to chirp when locking or unlocking tick or de-tick the "ATA confirm" function in the Maxidot. Strangely my one key from factory did not chirp and the other did. They are no both set to not chirp.

... and when I remove the key from the keyfob, it unlocks them!

Not managed to find that unlock function. I have to press the button by the handbrake.

right then,

just had a look at the manual and it appears all models with maxidot can have auto door locking.

this is how to set it...

go to Set Up - Convenience - Door Open - Automatic

then put a tick in both the Open and Close boxes

this will lock all doors once over 15kmh and unlock automatically when you take the key from the ignition or pull the lever on the inside of the door.

WARNING in the event of an accident, the doors ONLY auto unlock if the airbags have been deployed.

if not, and you are unable to open the doors from the inside then your rescuers will have to break the window!

i say any excuse for a firemans lift! :giggle:

Ok, answer this one.......how come my wife's MY11 Elegance doesn't have the 'ATA confirm' option in the maxidot menu? My MY11 Superb has it :dull:

Looks like I'll have to 'attack' it with the laptop and my VCDS lead :smirk:

Interesting. It is more of a Car jacking protection device than a child lock device then. Different to most other cars that have a similar auto lock.

I also found this strange. On my Audi and other VWs I've been in when the doors auto lock and someone wants to get out they had to pull the door lever twice. First time it just basically told them the door is locked and do you really want to do this? But on the Yeti the doors open as if they had never been locked. Peculiar. OR is this yet another thing we should be able to set up with a VCDS computer hook up?

As long as the doors can't be opened from the outside, which is what this does, then it is doing its job. If you want child locks on, then the rear doors have them anyway.

I did notice that on the octavia people used to get confused, as when they tried opening the door, nothing happened. So you had to tell them to open again. Now it is more 'natural'. people want to get out, they open the door. Whats wrong with that?

True. I think I'm just used to how the Audi worked. To be honest you are right. Hopefully I don't have foolish passengers that want to get out on a motorway at 70mph - and in 110,000 miles with the Audi it never happened! So if the door opens when you pull it, it opens and the car should always be at a stop. And as long as long fingers can't get in whilst I'm on the move I'm happy with the setup yes.

Despite what you see in films, I believe is is quite difficult to open a door at 70mph! It will require quite a lot of effort.

Unless you have a Rolls Royce with "suicide doors"! emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

[And yes I know those doors have failsafe mechanisms these days!]

Reminds me of a friend at college who had a Standard 10. it struggled all day to get up to 60MPH. We used to open the rear doors as air brakes .It slowed it right down to about 40. Really used to p+++ him off.... students Eh. :giggle:
