Insurance Prices

Featured Replies

Its insurance renewal time for me a got my renewal price through from More Than which was about £50 more than last year so not too bad.

As always what I do is get on the internet for a better price, often even the same company will do a new policy cheaper for you they bump up renewal prices as people are lazy and its easy to 'do nothing'.

Anyway, I digress, basically all the usual companies and comparison sites couldn't even come close to my renewal price and were all about £80 - £100 more, even More Than themselves. Whats going on?

All insurance prices in general seem to have shot up. Thank god for my renewal price, I think I'll be 'doing nothing' this year.......... unless anyone can recommend a good company to try for a petrol octy vrs?

My renewal price has gone from £500 - £750... no claims or points. All the comparison sites were starting at around £750 for me too.

Wow what company you with, or were you with I should probably say.

Yeah comparison sites were around the same prices for me.

More than went from 580 last year to 630 renewal price but were quoting 710 for a new policy (still the cheapest), think I got lucky with my renewal.

Thats with no claims or points and 4 years no claims.

Incidentally I was playing around on Admiral site and discovered that the fact I have children adds £80 to my quote????

Have you tried Chris Knott?

I used them with a previous owners club and with 10K business mileage and 6K personal mileage plus a few mods (including a LPG conversion) no-one could come near them for price. I transferred the Octy on to this policy, I will see in July if they are as competitive for the Octy.

Direct Line. But still, other companies aren't any cheaper, so they are all expensive. Apparently it is caused by the increased number of fraudulent claims being made. Lots of cases where some scrote will slam his anchors on in front of someone on a roundabout or something, and then him and his 4 passengers will all claim compo for whiplash, making you pretty much uninsurable.

Just turned 25, I thought that was a magic number that made policies get cheaper. Apparently not.

It annoys me when people recommend insurance companies who gave them cheap quotes, as they almost never provide the same cheapest price, even for the same car. It seems that insurance companies quote high prices to people they don't want to insure (age, sex, car, location, ncb, points, claims, etc). A friend of mine recommended a company to me, yet they came out at 1400. Had exactly the same sort of result since I started owning motorbikes and now cars, so I've given up on recommendations, there is no logic to it as no one has exactly the same circumstances as someone else.

£390 for me with Skoda insurance for my 2 day old petrol vRS with full no claims bonus (protected) living in north London............which I thought wasn't too bad (cheapest comparison price was £360 with esure)

The OP asked for advice - of course every one is different when it comes to insurance.

I have often found that on performance or modified cars that companies such as Chris Knott and Adrian Flux can work out cheaper than your standard insurers. Having said that, Adrian Flux have wanted silly money for my last two renewals.

Age and insurance cost is a myth I reckon - having just turned 40 it made no difference whatsoever. The only thing I find that brings the insurance down is having the wife as second driver???

As for the crash for cash point, try living in Blackburn - apparently the world centre of Crash for Cash claims!!

Same here - got the quote in from Aviva, up a bit (but still cheap at <£250) & thought, I can beat that...but the various comparision sites came up with nowt that was comparable or competitive, so I didn't move (for once).

Why not try using Quidco or Topcashback?

These are cashback sites through which you can link to dozens of the top insurance companies and get LOTS of cashback for doing just that.

I've saved about £400 on insurance purchases (car/motorbike/home/contents) this last year merely by using these sites.

No brainer really .... just try it, you've nothing to lose.

£500 - £750!!!! I've just had a quote today fully comp & 5 years no claims for £422 with Esure.com on Compare.com :rofl: I don't know your age but i'm 36 if that helps. The price you were quoted sounds way over the top! My eccess was set on £250

Same thing has happened to me. Renewal from Admiral was £550 (around the same as last year). Via confused a new Admiral quote was £650 and even the cheapest Confused quote was over £600. Go figure.

Aviva is the cheapest for both our vRs's

the company i am with were the cheapest by about £300.

I had a little accident six months ago and because of that my insurance is £1400, the highest quote was £9.5k and the cheapest was £1100 but with £3000 excess.

Wow reading these posts I think I am quite lucky with insurance. I pay £550 for both of my cars (56 VRS and Altea Sport) on Admirals Multicar Policy, thats with both mine and wifes No claims protected and all the the other rubbish like windscreen and recovery, courtesy car etc! My 2p worth is, it is very dependent on what cars you have owned previously.

At least thats better than what always seems to happen to me, where the renewal price is £100 more than the same company will quote you on their website!

Ok, just put my details into the comparison websites whilst running a test at work... The quotes for me are coming out at over 2 grand!!!! At this rate I'll be getting rid of the vRS and buying a 1.2 Fabia

I know I've had 2 accidents and 2 speeding tickets in the last 5 years, but even so, this is becoming farcical...

Might put some different addresses in the system and see if it's worth me moving when the current tenancy runs out...

Edit: It's my address that's causing the problem... Just put my old address in for comparison and it dropped a grand off the premium... I'm hardly ever at home and surely at 30000 miles a year, the biggest risk is an accident...

Please explain??? :S

Please explain??? :S

Yes, an explanation would he useful as I don't see how the insurers would know what I previously drove... You don't put that info in the forms... Mr previous 3 cars were 2 Saabs and a Jag so worth more than the vRS...

More than quoted me £308 for me, my wife and father in law for 12 months living in East Anglia includes communting legal, protected hire car etc, did not think it was too bad

£585 on my VRS, I'm 25 with 8 years NCB, no points.
