Funny, I never got stopped in my estate in the 5 or 6 times I took it through. The RS got stopped all 3! Or maybe the RS looked so cool they couldn't believe it was a Skoda.......

I'm told the guaranteed "search me" car is an old Sierra. It had so many body cavities that the Customs guys used to call it "the wardrobe"!

try blacking the windows on a transit minibus..

and radar based terrain following cruise control.

I agree there - parking sensors, parking sensors, parking sensors.

So what did I forget, apart from the armrest? :D

Heated seats? Hmm, wouldn't surprise me if these were standard in Sweden!

well, as a swede i guss i should support the 4x4, as it is actually manufactured here in sweden by Haldex. but...nah, i love the RS too much...

Just drive it, thats all we ask :D

philc - dead right about the Sierra - got stopped every time I went through customs at the tunnel and that car was taken apart far more than any classic car ever has been  (until it got nicked!). It amazed me how quickly they woul;d take apart the dashboard, lights, door coverings etc - obviously loads of practise.

The other week, my wife actually drove the RS out to meet me in Holland and did get stopped at customs - apparently it was dead quiet and they only stopped her to have a "laugh" at a Skoda, then getting onto the "yellow" subject  - gave her loads of funnies etc. Coming back I was waiting to get stopped so I could give them some grief ... but they let me through!

Cloggies or Brits?

And share some of the yellow jokes with us, Stu. Or did the customs lurk in The Lounge for those? :D

.. Brits! Not going to comment on the "yellow" jokes but my wife did have to explain that she was in fact a doctor and not a ..... ... hairdresser.

Actually got a lot of positive comments / questions whilst in Holland and also saw two other RSs (one in Dordrecht and one in Gouda). Also saw a couple of 4x4s which was a surprise as I hadn't seen any in GB.

I was under the impression that the Skoda joke is something unique to the British anyway?

Rob.

The parking distance sensors are not required if you're tall - I'm 6'4", I have the drivers seat as low as possible - and I can see out the back no problem.

The cruise control is definitely worthwhile IMHO - from having it in other cars - but could delay the delivery (I was quoted 8 weeks as opposed to 1 week). My dealer says there will be a retro-fit available in the autumn for

Respecfully disagree :)

GET THE PARKING SENSORS!

They just make life a doddle.

(6 foot 2)

i had cruise as part of my APR mods, but barely had occasion to use it satisfactorily apart from say, bombing up the M74.

imho.................................GET PARKING SENSORS!!!!!!

I "bomb up the M74" five times a week, I think it will come in useful - it's sooooo easy to let the speedo slip over 100 without it ;)

Overruled your honour! I'm 6'5" and definately could do with parking sensors :p

Or maybe just learn to reverse properly ;)

The parking sensors do make you lazy, though. The Legacy was "difficult" in that respect too, but as a 6'5" person myself I soon got the hang of it - sometimes scaring my SO to bits in the process, but always stopping a couple of inches short of a bang.

Now, after just over two months with the sensors, I don't even bother and fully trust them to the job for me.

parking sensors are cool - they spot bollards / children that you cant see out of the windows full stop...

f+r is essential

I had,t realised everyone on this site was so tall!! Despite being a relative midget at only 6'0" I have not really had any problems with reversing in the RS - yes the spoiler does get in the way etc but as the Octy has quite a short dropoff at the back I havefound it very easy to gauge distance. I was thinking of gettingt he aprking sensors following all the recomendations on this site but decided against it as I find it easier to park than my old Mondeo.

I am however, considering getting cruise cotrol even though I have always disliked it as a principle (I fell out of control when in use). Reason for considering is that i am finding myself going much quicker than I realise and don't want to lose my license :( My wife is even worse when she drives it - the jump from her old K reg Polo to an RS means that she calmly go soaring along without a clue as to the speed she is going - she managed to get from Calais to Breda (Southern Holland) in just over two hours the other week and seemed blissfully ignorant of the speed she must have been going

women - how come they never seem to get pulled for speeding?

if any of us did it... it would be a full rubber glove job.

It's still 6'! Some of us have never made it past the 5'8" mark,

though still manage to reverse their Octy into every parking

space. Only time I nudged the back was the first time I tried it -

your technique needs adjusting if you're used to looking out of

the back window like they teach you when you learn to drive! :D

So, yes, parking sensors are good if you're lazy, but if you'd

rather save the cash and concentrate on reversing properly then

don't bother... ;)

Hear hear!

Nick (5' 9")

im 6ft 3 and i want parking sensors cos im lazy..

and dual zone air con so my wife cant mess with my side of the car.
