Safe mode after the frost

Featured Replies

Went to start the car yesterday let it tick over for a while just to heat her up as it was -14 for the 5th night in a row.So I started it let it run for approx 20 min jumped in gave it a little rev and just tick over small rev but not past 3000 revs safe mode feels like, the frost must have done something only thing I can think on.

Anyone else have any trouble like this.

have you check the water in the header tank if its low this will put the car in safe mode

If I remember correctly this is normal. In certain scenarios the car will not rev beyond a certain limit even with the throttle to the floor. I'm sure mine does this when stationary. Hopefully someone will be along soon who knows the exact details!

My Focus ST used to do this when in neutral..

I also had a Focus ST.

If you put it in 1st gear obviously with clutch down, and then floored the throttle, it would not rev over 3000rpm. But this was designed in to protect the drivetrain, no side stepping off the clutch pedal at 6000rpmemoticon-0104-surprised.gif

As others have said, this is by design!

Hmm its in park, and a bit more smoke out the back than normal when revved water levels are ok, no warning lights on will drive it tomorrow when the roads are a bit better see what happens.

If you can press the pedal to the floor ignore the next bit.

Had this happen to me thought it was safe mode for about 10 seconds. Brain was slow due to cold then realised it was a stone jamming the pedal :(

if its in park it won't rev past 2-2.5k rpm
