How long to obtain a build week

Featured Replies

I'm aware of that, but the fact you had 'no build week' when others who ordered later had provisional and even confirmed dates was a bit strange.

I'm sure mine will slip and June was when I was told to expect it

Agree with steve, as I said in my original post. I was as surprised as anyone that I was given build week seven! :o

I have contacted my dealer this morning and he is still quoting 7 :D I was fully expecting (and still am really)to be late May early June.

Joela: Err its rather annoying when you start your posts with ERR. the posters on here are purely discussing information they have been given. Its not a case of 'i'm not getting mine so you wont be getting yours'

Joy to the world and all that stuff :D

yea loads of things could alter the week extras etc can change it or if a big load of orders go in within a short period for DSG etc mine is still week 7 too ordered 04/11/10 but as with anyone im not going to get my hopes up too much on that actually happening just in case will not be happy though gurrrr dealer said that the build weeks (provisional) are constantly changing and they are keeping a good eye on it and will let me know if it changes immediately fingers crossed for all that the messing about with weeks get sorted out and people get more accurate dates in the first place at the end of the day the money just earns more interest for me in the mean time

I have had 3 diferent build weeks, then all diesels had their build weeks removed and a week later updated. Other threads on here will concur. I am sure we will all get them eventually my big issue is the fact that Skoda cannot cope and seem to be messing people around and be very rigid in their policies. When I wanted to cancel, which would be doing them a favour as it is one less in the backlog they said I would be in breach of contract, bloomin cheek!

Seems to be a lot of differing info out there. I have never been informed of build weeks being cancelled and have consistantly been told that I'm BW7. Maybe my dealer's PC has frozen

Not just Skoda mate. It seems to be a VAG group issue. My mates got the same problem with the Golf he's ordered just before christmas from a dealer in the North East, RHD, diesel & DSG. He's been told - up to 6 months & still hasn't got a build week. The dealer told him a similar story that demand in the far east had stripped supply. He was also told that production of some VAG lines/ranges had been scaled down for europe, because most economies were in recession.

In other words VAG group expected and planned for sales to slip round here, so scaled back production accordingly, and focussed on the far east market, which went potty, unexpectedly! Then they realised we were still ordering cars, so were caught out! Looks like bad business planning by VAG group, but they are far from alone in this!

My mate was told that production was being increased (hence build weeks being re-allocated), but that it took a while to achieve the desired levels. Hence his dealer said "up to" 6 months, allowing for the "possibility" of an earlier delivery!

Apparently he's got a rather long thread going on on of the golf forums, which reads remarkably similar to this one LOL!!

There have been at least 8 previous threads like this, & it might be worth reading my post earlier in this thread around what the process is.

All dealers have been told about the Diesel engine delays, so anyone who has ordered one should not be surprised by this.

Robzer - you may still be ok, if it is a petrol version you have ordered.

Took about a month to get my (first) unconfirmed Build Week, and that was without holidays.

The 'unconfirmed' Build Weeks were... 41, 40, 45, 50, 09, 01.

Build Week 1 was only raised to 'confirmed' status during Build Week 50, however the car was actually built during Build Week 51!

(Car was ordered during Build Week 20).

Build Weeks, as my experience shows, can be all over the place, and even when uncomfirmed becomes confirmed, (approx 2 weeks prior to the confirmed week), it doesn't follow that it will be built during the confirmed week; a week either way is possible.

As my previous post above shows, my unconfirmed Build Weeks ranged from Build Week 40 to Build Week 9.... that's 6 separate Build Weeks stretching over a 21 week period! And it wasn't even built during any one of the 6!!!

If mine wasn't already sat in Grimsby awaiting a transporter I'd not be puting much store in ANY unconfirmed Build Week the dealer gets from the factory.

Hi Fubar

I originally ordered an Octavia Scout manual in June 2010 from Thompson & Potter Skoda in Perthshire Scotland, at that time DSG was not available on the Scout, by the end of October 2010 I still did not have a confirmed build but a provisonal date of 29 November 2010. At this time the DSG Box became available on the Scout so I asked if my order could be updated to include DSG. I was told as it was within 5 weeks of the provisional date I could not change the spec on that order ( "note" not the confirmed build date - Skoda will only confirm one week before the proposed build date). The only option I was given was to cancel the existing order and reorder with DSG. Thats what I did and the new order was placed in early November 2010 and as yet I have not recieved a build date, but have been told to expect up to 6 months for delivery (circa May 2011). As it happens the dealer took on my original order as they did not have a demonstrator, this was built at the end of November and they got it at the dealership 2nd week of January 2011. I went over to see it and was most impressed as it has everything but the DSG. So can't wait to get mine with DSG although I will have a long wait for it!!

The delivery times are a pain but that it is mainly due to Skoda not realising what the demand would be for the VAT free and 0% finance deals on offer in the UK. There are also I am told problems within VAG with the shortage of the 2.0 Ltr TDI CR engines too. The only good side to this is that demand for the cars proves what a good product it is, so I think it will be worth the wait in the long run frustrating though that is!!

In answer to your main question if you change he order 5 weeks before the proposed build date you should be OK. If you are within 5 weeks of the proposed not confirmed build date you would have to reorder to change the spec and basically that means another 6 month wait from order.

Hope this helps

I am well down the line deposit 04/11/2010 build week 8 and due to hit uk mid March 2011 does anyone know if I try to change my options will it mess with the build week ?? I want Maxi-Dot and brochure wasn't that clear about it I saw DSG only in a sub note to it and now realise it ment its standard to DSG already and I really want it?? I am awaiting a reply at moment from my delivery co-ordinator......

It's not just an issue of VAT free & 0% increasing sales. Offers are also there to get sales on the books when there are problems!

Put the offers aside and imagine for a minute going into a dealer to by a diesel Octy. Dealer says you can't have one for 6 months and thats all there is to it, no discount, no offer, it's just the way it is! So you walk to A N Other manufactures Dealer and ask to buy a diesel Forxhall, no problem they say,you can have it for the weekend, but "no real deals on at the moment, as we can sell them as fast as they come in" so you buy from them.

Now think of if the other way, you go into buy a diesel Octy and are told, not for 6 months, however if you are willing to wait, we'll also offer you 20% off and 0% finance. So you do the maths, and you either buy a car with 20% off and wait a long time; or walk across the road and by a Forxhall with virtually no wait & no reduction.

It's exactly the same tactic Forxhall took in the 80's when there were strikes in Belgium limiting production of certain products. Dealers were taking orders with fantastic reductions, because the lead times were so long!

I've also heard one of my marketing colleagues say that some companies use limited or lengthy supply as a way of "retaining & cultivating the faithful" and shedding the "one time only purchasers"! Who knows! To quote one of my friends, "we are where we are!"

OK, so it gets even more bizzare. My car is NOT a petrol model. It is an Octavia Elegance 2L CR 140. and i have constantly (after being advised by others on this forum to ask for weekly updates) since late Dec been informed that it is to be built week 7. That was until today when I recieved an email informing me that It has now been brought FORWARD to week begining 31st Jan (BW5) WHAT IS GOING ONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

Stevoraith: How are you getting on with yours as I am aware you are north of the border and ordered at a similar time.

Thats great news for you Robzer!

I've not had any updates from the original wk15. I've pestered my dealer quite a lot recently regarding changing my order so I think I'll give him a few weeks before I pester him about build week updates

What dealer are you using Robzer?

I ordered a TDi Scout (with quite a few extras but still a manual gearbox) 22nd Nov 2010, but knew I'd have about a 26 week (6 month) wait when I ordered so was prepared for the wait.

I heard nothing for weeks apart from it's on the system and was waiting to be allocated. However I found out a few days ago that provisional build week 17 is against my order.

Given 3-4 weeks delivery to dealer if (a big if I know) things don't slip makes it about 6 months from ordering.

Specialist Skoda in Aberdeen

I orderred my vRS hatch CR170 dsg race blue with heated seats, side curtains, auto lights, MDI cable, spare wheel and rear sensors on 6/12/10 and have been allocated WK10. Thought not a chance but dealer has phoned again to confirm its still showing build WK10. I said no chance, don't belive you and he said some cars have slipped to 6 month delay but i was a lucky one. Build week 10 would be nice but i'm not fully convinced it will happen. Time will tell!!!! Garage: Newmarket Bannockburn Scotland

My 1.6 TDI CR SE Hatch in Silver now has a build week again, Ordered 24/9/10 now expected to be built End March BW12. I enquired if I could change it to Greenline spec and was told that it could be done but would delay my order. The dealer and I thought that strange. Reading above that a Scout ordered November is due very soon I can only think they build the spec's in batches? Anyway I did not want to delay my car further and the dealer advised me he would want me to drive a greenline 2 as it does not seem to drive as nicely, more road noise, and engine noise, and does not handle the same. I think they actually have less soundproofoing to save weight, I remember reading that somewhere, also the lowered suspension and energy saving tires may have an effect so SE it still is. Maybe I will in a couple of years order the next replacement car, hopefully an Octy mark 3, in Greenline spec instead, actually thinking about it I had better put a deposit in now to get it delievred on time!

I started the post so I will finish it (in disbelief) :smirk:

Ordered my Octy on 11th Dec (at Showroom) was given build week 2 weeks later (BW7) and was , given the current delays, amazed at the shortness of time. Since recieved new build week of BW5 (next week 31st Jan) and recieved an email this morning to inform me that build confirmed.

Dealer says deliver Very early March (if not the 1st itself)

HOWS THAT FOR SERVICE

8 weeks and thats includes the christmas hols :D

(am still waiting for the roof to cave in. Oh me of little faith)

:o

A diesel Octavia built in 8 weeks!! That must be some kind of record!

Just hoping mine doesn't come quite as quick as that as I won't have saved enough cash to pay for it until May

Does anyone know why there is such randomness (is that really a word) to these delays. My dealer seem to be saying there were no problems at all and that all us Briskodians are nuts. :D

There is no way it would be due to the spec, such as mine is Candy White. Maybe they paint them all that colour and then paint over them with metalic paint. So mine is ready made :D:D:D

Sorry I'm getting dillusional at the thought of my new motor. Anyone want a 56 plate vRS. Damn I've only got 5 weeks to sell it :dull:

anyone want a X plate 406 HDi estate with a dent on the bonnet :p I DONT!!!!! im thinking of abandoning it might be easier than selling the tank or use it as storage

Your doing the same as me then, going from a 56 Plate vRS to a 2.0 CR Elegance.

Similar sort of delivery timescale too :D
