Genuine Rear Speaker Packs on eBay

I'm sure you've all got them correct.... but it's INCREDIBLY important you don't get one side out of phase by wiring it with the cables the wrong way round.

If you do this, you'll get much less bass as the reversed side will cancel out the sound waves coming from the correct side.

It's also worth noting that if you've done any other audio work you may be getting front to rear bass cancellation and sometimes reversing both rear speakers phase can actually improve the sound quality.

Don't think it's such a big issue with the Fabia as the door speakers push in a different direction, but my Dad's old Merc had dash speakers firing up the windscreen and rear shelf speakers firing up the rear window and the used to sound rubbish until we reversed both rears. Of course, it may have had the dash speakers installed incorrectly before he bought it.

I'm guessing you've all noticed as well that next to 50W printed on the bottom it states 30W? I'm guessing the 30w is RMS and 50W Peak power output. 30w is still pretty good power handling for a small cone.

Anyone got any idea what the output from the Symphony is per channel? It struggles to power the Focal setup in my doors but completely overwhelms the Sonys about to come out of the back.

Still 4 sets on a different listing....

Hi Tas,

Running a JVC KW-NX7000 DoubleDin Headunit on low power mode as to not blow the speakers.

The speakers are definitely not as good as the originals. Should have pointed out that in the past I worked in a automotive loudspeaker manufacturing company, spent two and a half years testing speakers and then 6 years in the Quality department so I do know what I am talking about.

Karl

Could it just be that they needed running in? Most speakers sound crappy when new. They tend to sound bright with little or no bass and get a lot better once they loosen up a bit.

Also, when it's cold, most speakers in cars sound bad until they warm up. That's why the sound in the car is much better on a nice warm day rather than in the middle of winter.

Hi Shadowphax,

Speakers do tend to get I little bit better after use. You are right until the cone/foam surround and spider (diaphragm) loosen up they will be better at producing high frequencies rather than low ones. I'm not trying to say that these speakers are bad it just they are not an upgrade to the original fitment. A separate bass mid range driver and tweeter is almost always better than a combined unit especially in one as small as 10 cm. They are well worth it if your originals are blown.

Mine arrived today, hopefully my new head unit will also arrive soon so I can double my speaker count!

Just fitted mine, spent ages getting the headunit back in as per the first time I fit it. To anyone fitting on a classic model (i.e. one without wiring) to get the wires in you have to remove the yellow locking tab, you can just pull it out from the end with a flat jewellers screw driver and remove completely - remember to put the wires into the correct holes as they will be difficult to remove once pushed in. If you install the wires behind glovebox and down NS of car then the connections will be reversed compared with the instructions (left/right). Also there are nowhere near enough cable ties supplied with the kit, but these are cheap and easy enough to get hold of.

In terms of sound, they do not sound great faded all the way to them, the front OE speakers definitely do a better job of reproducing the full sound range - I might fade to them though in the hope of "breaking them in". Sometimes I get almost a surround sound effect when the rear speakers are able to reproduce a certain frequency better than the fronts. All in all I am happy with the extra noise for the price and couple of hours effort installing (most getting the stereo back in).

Sigh.. Now I'm wondering if these will really be any better than the Sonys... hope so.

I've chosen anther silly time to play with cars, so ended up only doing one side. Anyway, it sounds a sharper but with less bass. Like others say it could be that it needs wearing in but tbh I only notice this when I was sitting at the back.. Now it makes me want to change the fronts because I notice a significant clarity to the rear :dull:

...hi guys does anyone know if the fabia 3 tsi can fit these on the sides of the parcel shelf ??

...and second will these also fit in the rear door since i only have stock speakers in the front...............

Hi ctiltman

I don't know for definate if the same quality speakers are used in both the comfort and VRS, but these would fit as they are the same size, a common mod is to disconect the rear tweeters any to stop them irritating your ears. If your rear speakers are shot it would be worth changing them for these but if not keep them and disconnect the tweeters.

Karl

I have disconnected tweeters and its much better. There doesn't seem to be much sound coming out of the speakers at the back now, even with the fader set to rear. Is this normal, or are they most likely on their way out? Also, what would you consider to be the optimum setting for the fader front rear balance?

Your car didn't have speaker cables running to the back anyway? o.O

Not fitted to Classics and classic-based special editions (hence their provision with the kit). Assuming Beancounter is fitting to the VRS I'd have thought they'd already be there.

I ordered some yesterday for my sdi classic. I hope it isnt to hard to set up, ive never fitted any "ice" before. Does anyone know what would be a good choice for front speakers as the ones in mine currently crackle. Im not talking mega bucks, sort of £30 range. I was looking at these sony ones http://www.stoneaudio.co.uk/?google=12890

they are 3 way, does this mean that I wouldnt need to bother with the front tweeters (and could remove the old ones?) as the tweeter is built into the door speakers themselves? Or am i better off getting 2 way speakers and getting separate tweeters to replace the old ones. And I am aware of the size/depth limitations and the need for the mdf/plastic adapters

My head unit is a jvc model that was around the £50-£100 mark a year or 2 ago. Its 4 x 50 w MOSFET (whatever that means, I assume it means it can power a max of 4 x 50w speakers) ive also bought the fabia fm signal booster as my fm signal is terrible for anything other than bbc stations. Cheers.

It's better to have the tweeters higher up. There's these http://caraudiogiant.co.uk/shop/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=654 but they seem to have both lovers and haters, probably more haters of late. I got some but haven't had a chance to fit them yet.

Thanks, I thought more ear level tweeters would be the better option however I do find the idea of the 3 ways quite attractive as its more simple/less time consuming setup as the tweeters are built in. But the alpines are tried and tested and they are definitely the right size and depth, do the included tweeters fit straight in the standard fabia tweeter trim? would the alpines give a reasonable amount of bass? I dont want to fit a subwoofer (as that would mean I need an amp right?), but I do want a reasonable amount of bass as im young and do like listening to bass heavy music. Obviously im not expecting to shake the windows off, but just enough bass that I can enjoy. Cheers.
