its fantastic. the learners love it (tried a pupils own car, toyota auris auto, and its the worst auto box I've ever tried!!)sooo smooth, works brilliantly for manouvers, and the hill holder ect, never had any problems (33k happy miles) , although my wheels are a little scuffed, price you pay when they are out on the test on their own! had a nice pass yesterday with 2 minors :) the examiners like it ;)

I only do it part time, but the fuel economy isnt too bad, did a lesson with LOTS of town and manouvering , and got 35 mpg.. 40 + out of town.. for a full timer this may not be good enough.. depends how much you charge, I get £25 an hour, some of the manual people may have cars doing 50 + mpg, but they are only charging circa £18-20 per hour! :o so I still do ok by comparison ;) (maybe even better even at 30 mpg!!)

insurance is a bit of a problem (group 28 ish?!) I'm with instructorcoverplus (underwritten by allianz) who I have been with for many many years, when trying to ring around last time though, I found all the other compaies I tried wouldnt insure it! too high a gruop for learners... but then some wont insure me because I only do it part time! (how odd is that?) on my cert. it says main job : Medical technitian (I'm an EMT for the ambulance service) and part-time: drivivng instructor... (same cover, professional indemnety, replacement car, under 17's off road ect ect)

best car for learners I have ever had... but then they cant hurt an automatic like they can a manual lol!

Hi Sharkrider. I pick up my new Fabia TSI today and I'm happy with the insurance premium ( never thought I would say that ). £198 fully comp with all the trimmings, protected no claims etc .

is that drivivng instructor insurance?! if so , wow, and please give me the company details! :)

Sorry my friend its just normal insurance. Hastings direct is my present insurance company but going to change over to Elephant when my renewal date comes up.

ahhh. shame . (good price for you though :) )We have to use specialist companies for driving instructor insurance... alot of them have a cap on the insurance group of cars allowed :( we also have lots of extras added, proffessional indemnity ect....

Well, 1200 miles in and time for a quick report on mine...

Fuel economy is better than the twincharger Scirocco its replaced, quicker and much more practical. Dipped the oil at the weekend and no usage to speak of. Driven "normally" from day 1, none of this "running in" lark.

Missing the auto wipers and lights on the Scirocco but I was just getting lazy, I reckon. Hopefully a round trip to Germany next week (not the 'Ring) so we'll see how the stiffer suspension copes with Belgian roads....

In short? Loving it...

Just having a quick look through here and not many have the same as mine - "Skoda IRC Champion" sticker in the rear window and laurel stickers above the side repeaters?? Option, or something else?

Most made from 2011 on have them. Skoda won the IRC in 2011 and again in 2012

Cheers Martyn...shame the decal only says 2010 and 2011!

Akkroma, those wheels suit that car so well

What suspension do you run?

Hey,

I run H&R Coilovers, lowered the RS 69mm and got 20mm left ;)

But I already did some crimping (hope it's the right word for it) and some pulling on the fender to fit it that low :)

Greetings

Perfect looking car!

I am considering this coilovers. Could you recommend it?

I'll post all my pictures in this link, check them out please =D!

You're just trying to make me even more jealous now . . . .

OK - a few thousand miles in and maybe time for a comparison thread with my previous vehicle - a twincharged Scirocco with DSG.

vRS Plus points:

Quicker.

More economical

More useable

More practical (can open the doors in a supermarket car park)

Greater visibility

DSG programming much better

Engine map MUCH better (doesn't decide to start backing off at 6000rpm).

Seats look the same but are slightly more comfortable although slightly less supportive.

vRS minus points:

Doesn't feel as planted round corners - not inspiring me with the same confidence levels to throw it into corners

Doesn't do as many miles on a tank - but the Scirocco had a 55 litre tank...

More engine noise - but a "raw" note (bit like an old fashioned twin cam on twin Webers).

Not too keen on the way the speedo scale changes at 80mph - what you think is 84mph is actually 90..

Ride is harsher - but the Scirocco had the 3 stage suspension settings (ACC?).

Neither one way or the other:

Supercharger comes in much sooner (throttle position); slightest hint of acceleration and I can hear it click and whine

XDS - can feel it working but still playing with it (knowing what its going to do).

Gearing lower on the vRS - 3000rpm = 80mph vs 3000rpm = 90mph in the Scirocco. The 'Roc had an exhaust "boom" at 3k which acted as a nice speed reminder...

Do I regret changing? Nope - not at all. I'm fully aware that the vRS is a heated-up hatchback (estate in my case) and the Scirocco was designed as a sporty coupe and each has its compromising features.

As to the DSG; does anyone know if they're a different set of ratios, as despite the shorter gearing in 7th, 1st seems more useable (taller) for some reason.

As to the folklore of why there isn't a manual gearbox option (apparently not one strong enough), why could you get a manual gearbox on the 170PS 1.4 TSI Golf (and the Scirocco/Tiguan etc)?? If this engine is being phased out, I'll mourn its loss and won't have a clue what to get next time.

You've missed one

You've missed one very important point...an Estate vRS must be at least £5k cheaper,or perhaps more, depending on the model of Scirocco that you had.

Eibach springs should tighten up the handling for less than £200,although it's unlikely to ever feel as planted as a Scirocco, which seems to have a far wider track

Agreed - losing what looks to be 3-400mm of track (and 30mm off the tyre width) will affect the cornering abilities!

£5k off the list price also helps with the company car tax...
