Boring topic I know but ...

What do you do to protect the carpet in the Fabia? I usually buy cheapo mats from a DIY store and replace them after a year or so, but the carpet in my new Fabia is slippery and the mats slide all over the place. I tried double sided tape but that doesn't hold them. Has anyone bought the genuine Skoda mats? How are they fixed?

I had the genuine Skoda mats fitted to both the Fabias I had before the vRS. The earlier one just had the drivers mat held down with two clips.

The second one had both the drivers and passenger mat held down.

The only reason I had new mats for the second one was the way the passenger one walked. I had a feeling the clips wouldn't transfer well. In the end I got the dealer to do new for old and left the old mats in the first one.

The vRS (which comes with mats  ) has all four mats held down.

I believe the price was reasonable but can't remember exactly what it was.

Sally,

I bought the genuine carpet mats for the Octy and they were fixed by "screw in" fixings........they lasted one day then broke!!!

I opted for Canon (? spelling?) car mats which I bought out of Hulfurds at half price during a sale.

So far so good; good fitting kit and the are tough and hard wearing with me and my size 12's!!!

Hope this helps?

The genuine mats are fixed to the floor using a locating pin with a swivel top on it which effectively locks the mat in place - does on the OCty vRS anyway.

I would say it is worth getting the genuine mats as they fit pretty well and shouldn't for instance slip under the accelerator pedal as cheapo mat sets might.

Having said that I did have a mat set bought from Halfords (Cannon was the make but quite pricey) which were very good - you had to select the appropriate one for the model of car and then trim off various bits to get them to fit.

If the car is likely to get very muddy it may be worth getting the Skoda made rubber mat set as these can be easily washed. Also Skoda do a bootliner which might be a good idea too (costs around

I use Skoda branded mats, but they're not lasting too well, and every time I take them out to hoover them and the car, there's always plenty of cr4p that's managed to sneak off the edge and ground into the carpet. Think I might try the newly acquired steam cleaner on it, should lift off most of the grime.

Thanks guys for the quick replies.

Looking at the prices on those links it seems much better value to buy the DIY shop ones for

I got the Fabia with FABIA stiched on to them with the car (2nd hand), seem to be doing the job well! :)

To fix the Skoda mats you have to make a little hole in the carpet with a bradawl or something pointed, then screw in the base of the clip, before putting the mat over the turn buckle. I put mine in 15 months ago and they're just fine, it's nice to see the stitched name every time you open the door!

My mats are the proper Fabia ones but only the drivers one is foxed. Came with the car, and they are very nice. A little bit back towards the divers seat are 2 black plactic studs attached through the carpet to the floor and magically 2 little holes in the mats at said points. Clip them through and hey presto! :D

I'll follow that up. Thanks very much!

If you just want to use cheaper mats and stop them moving just stick the hook bit of velcro to the bottom and that should stop them sliding around.

I find that a tube of superglue does the trick ............. :D

When I picked up my vRS I immediately had Fabia rubber mats fitted as the "original vRS" mats in my opinion are impracticable. It's interesting to note that standard Fabia mats do not fit the vRS floor well; they are far shorter and can't be secured to the floor using the original floor fixings. I just wonder whether VW Polo mats would fit better, any ideas?
