Fastest cars you've driven?

Sadly never driven anything exotic, but went to a TVR track day at Elvington and was passenger in:

1. TVR Cerbera 4.5 V8 (cousin's, we got to 176mph before the bonnet catch busted and started to lift!)

2. TVR Tuscan (~170, speedo was buggered but the driver throttled it)

3. Nissan Skyline R34 GTR V-Spec (de-restricted) - it ran out of gears around the 175 mark but I swear I've never been around a corner that fast in my life. G-force? Just a bit!

Mitsub Galant VR4 Estate (they seem popular on this thread!) Again, as mentioned, it's massive, but boy does it shift and you get some *very* confused looks and no-one seems to know what it is! Especially this one, as it was black with tints...

Also driven a Saab 9-5 Aero, that thing was just daft. Just seemed to spin away all the power through the front wheels. But it made up for it when you *eventually* got it pointing in a straight line....

Passenger in an M3 DSG cabrio too - that was just bliss. Summer's day, and quite a lot of wind in your hair!

theres a definite difference between fast and fun

Fast

1) MK2 Escort 2l 180hp, but rather than the normal 180hp, from a highly strung cam, this was 180hp making huge power from 1000rpm up, it had the sort of torque that combined with the quaife lsd made it impossible to pull away without the back end swinging out even in the dry, real example of the difference between HP figures and engine power.

2) early ST mondeo fairly standard - on Dry tarmac in the hands of a professional this car was quicker than a 300hp works 4wd sapphire cossie (in the hands of the same driver)

3) modified V6 capri, heads, filter exhaust etc,

4) Focus with a race built zetec engine.

5)1978 911, cant remember the exact model.

Most fun,:)

1) Skoda Favorit Road rallying.

2) Skoda Felicia N1

3) MK2 RS2000 slightly modified not wild.

4) Skoda Rapid

5) modified focus

  • 5 months later...

not driven very many fast cars.... I prefer good handling to outright speed ;)

Having said that, my other car is a Racing Puma which can shift - but it's nowhere near the 300+bhp beasts some of you seem to have driven!!

Fastest I've ever driven was at Millbrook - 125 round the oval in a fiat barchetta ;)

The quickest thing i have driven is my old Volvo T5 actually. Once rolling it would really pin you in your seat, and was quicker than the 2nd fastest car i have been in, my mates MZ3 Roadster then my dads 996 C4 cabriolet, followed by my E30 M3 i think..........all the way down to my girlfriends [now wifes] Metrol 1.4 diesel, THE slowest car in the world !

You should try an MTM one :D

You find me one and I'll drive it ! lol.

Seriously though, they are quick enough as they are. Its hard to imagine a quicker version !

We had a customer who had a Cerbera 4.5, sold it and bought an MTM tuned RS4. It was absolutly ballistic !

Mine was leant to me by a nice Dutchman at the Ring, got to have a good play - a bit uninvolving but OMFG did it shift :D

568 bhp and 770 Nm of torque - rather like strapping a rocket to your house :D

Would love to have a go in a clubsport one :D

I've been involved with various forms of motorsport for years (Mostly Rallying)so I've driven a wide range of very fast accelerating cars.

As for quick on road stuff.

Subaru Impreza's of various horse powers, probably the quickest would be a modified 22B

Driven quite a few Mitsi Evo's.

Cousin has an M3 which is a nice drive.

Driven a couple of quick Skyline's with around 450bhp and a modified Mitsi GT3000.

The most fun was a 350bhp Cosworth engined RWD MK2 Escort.

But by far the fastest would be a Porsche 911 GT2, the accleration of a 200mph+ car is awesome at around 60mph. :)

The nicest sounding car I've been in was a Ferrari F355 with sports exhaust, I only got to drive it up and down a car park though. :( But the passenger ride was excellent. :D

Jon (TaviaRS)

Did you ever have a ride in or see Richards Ford RS200 at the ring? Would spin all four wheels on a 3rd to 4th gear change at around 90mph. Totally mental

Cheers

Lee
