Bonnet release lever in cabin broken

Featured Replies

Mine was doing the same thing. What was worrying (like some folk here) it would come off whilst driving the car - nothing to do with opening the bonnet when stationary. I was concerned that it would come of & get stuck under the brake pedal. I mentioned this to my local Skoda garage @ it's last service & they fixed it.

Personally, I think it's a bit of a design flaw as the plastic clip/spring thing will eventually wear down against the metal spline. :wonder:

Definitely the worst bonnet release lever I have ever seen, along with the flimsy internal door release catches.

I can find the handel with the above part number (1J2 823 533 C) on the Bickerton Skoda site but the part number for the mounting bracket (1J2 823 633) is not giving any results, so is it correct and if not can some one give me the correct one please as am fed up of my handel coming off every time I try to open my bonnet so want to replace it with a new one?

Also, is it easy to fit the new one and can any one guide me to some instructions on how to please, if possible.

Thank you.

Have now found the bracket but do I take it that I need to replace the bracket and the handle at the same time?

Yeah the bracket goes on first and the handle last when the foot rest trim has been re-fitted.

Ok. Thank you for your help.

Is there a specific way of removing the lever? Do you just pull it towards the centre of the car or is there a clip or something?

Posted ImageYes there is a clip, the pic shows it removed. I didn't have to remove the clip to remove the handle, it just came off in my hand lol I imagine it would be hard to remove the clip due to the position of the handle.

I don't usually horde crap by the way, this was a one off lol dumped in my tool box.

It does look like its in a awkward place, cheers

I'd like to join the broken bonnet release lever club too. Currently it does still open by pushing on the handle and gently turning, but looks like another item to add to the list!

Any feedback from anyone who has replaced their handle, are the new handles stronger?

Also what's the cost too

I'm on my 3rd handle now, 2nd bonnet catch but my handle is still really stiff and the lever still comes off in my hand. Wish they had done something better. My 1st handle the skoda salesman broke trying to show me under the bonnet then the 2nd the skoda tech broke whilst servicing it.

Well picked up my new handle from dealer. £16 incl VAT so will get around to fitting that soon.

I got sick and tired of mine keep coming off. Keep replacing handle and mechanism. Crappy design so attacked it with a drill, and a Dremel. It's not pretty but it works. Lol

My handle broke and it was very difficult to get the bonnet open. Took the whole mechanism off and put it back on again negative handle (not working anyway) and tried pliers on the cable.

This just didn't work for ages until finally the wife came home and sat on the bonnet! As soon as she released the tension with her fat bum the cable easily pulled through. Time for some grease under the bonnet!

Just happened to me, I'm trying araldite. If that does not work I'll be searching the bay for a new one. It used to work no probs but just went, the splines are very worn and the central shaft has snapped. It looks like a fairly easy fix if the adhesive does not work.
