Replacing Shocks Absorbers

Featured Replies

Hello Guys,

I have a 2002 Octavia L&K 1.8T with only 53,000 Kilometers. I fill the rear part or my car is jumping when I am f¡driving it. The Dealer says, I need to replace the Shocks Abosrbers on the back and he say that I need to change also de ones in the front :o

So how if the car only have 53,000 kilomenters the Shocks are bad.

Can I only change the ones in the rear or is recomended to change the front and the back at the same time?

THX,

Isaac

its not just the mileage that affects shocks but useage in that amount of mileage (ie bad roads) and also the fact that your shocks are 8-9 years old.

No one will make you change both front and back, BUT if you want decent handling again, I would change front and back so they match.

It depends on what kind of road conditions the car has had to endure!, rather than the mileage.

Obviously they will fail after time but you may find the fronts are slightly damp which would indicate a leak somewhere, which is common.

The rears fail quite often and you notice cars going do the road with the back of the car bouncing or if its just the one, one wheel jumping abound, common on a lot of Audi A4's too

If you want to get shocks and you dont want coilovers or anything too extreme you could try gas shocks from euro car parts, they are quite reasonabley priced and a bit better than standard

if you have the money to do both front and back. do the back first as i think they are cheaper and very easy to change. if this doesnt solve the prob. then ok you spent a bit but you know the back is grand. not tried to change front myself yet. it is only wise to change left and right on front or back at same time, not front and back at same time.

Hey guys,

Thanks for your replys. I took the car to another mechanic, and he toll me that I only need to replace the rear shocks and the upper base(Strut Mounts) and bearings for the front shocks. He also recomend me a place were I can get aftermarket parts for my Skoda fpr good prices.

I just went to a that place that sell aftermarket parst for Skoda here in my country. Its look like they get there parts from: http://www.skopar.com

I bought the following parts:

2 rear gas shock absorbers (NOVA Brand made in Turkey) Part No. 1J0 513 025BG I pay for each one US$56.00 What you think of NOVA brand?

2 Strut Mount -- > upper base for front shocks (Rubert Part) Part No. 1J0 412 331

2 Bearings for Strut Mount -- upper base Part.No. 1J0 412 249

So, tomorrow, I will take the car to the mechanic, so they change all these parts. Let see how is going :-)

I also ask them how much they sell the front shock absorber for my car and the price is US$76.00 E/O (NOVA Brand made in Turkey)

THX,

Isaac

I've just seen this post, and the only thing I can say that might help (albeit in a negative way) is that I've never heard of "Nova" in the context of car parts.

Surely you fib Ken, the V***h*ll Nova is just a collection of car parts, as it does not really qualify for description of "car" :giggle:

Never heard of Nova but my guess is that they are made by Maysan Mando. A quick look on their site shows they do a shock that 'replaces' 1J0 513 025 BG - part # 7211501.

If they are made by Maysan, AKA Europar (note there is no 't' at the end), then you should be OK. They are cheap, but not cheap and nasty.

Ok, you've got me there, and TurboBoss, yes we do know what "No va" translated from Catelan Spanish into English as; it's a fair description of the vehicle!
