vrs cambelt

I thought it was 1.8t that were affected by ****ty water pumps?

Matt

Any impeller made of plastic has the potential to break up because as plastic ages it gets brittle

we do see plastic pump impellers on diesels with blades missing, just not as often

I have read on the honest john website, it was a "gift" to the UK VAG dealers when variable service interval was introduced as they would be losing servicing business.

It's not beyond the realms of possibility

The 1.4 16v engines don't seem to be able to make it 5 years with confidence though

i'd say it was a hefty handful of both

I have just called 4 skoda dealers to check when my cambelt needs changing on my fabia vrs. all 4 said its 80,000 miles or four years. But, i have read on here that most people get it done at 60k? what is the reason behind this and what would happen if my cambelt was to go befor the 80k skoda have been telling me?

many thanks.

I have just spoken to SkodaUK today about it and they have said 40,000 /4 yrs, it is to do with the rubber / kevlar mix that the belt is made of oxidizes. They also said it is best to change the water pump at the sametime as that is removed anyway to change the belt. I hope this helps.

Check these links out, it is very interesting reading then decide when you change your cambelt/tensioners etc.

Interesting point the stealers all push for this work (I got a letter from both stealers my car has been serviced at) but they never bothered to tell me about Skoda recommendations to change brake fluid every 2 years until I questioned it at 4 years - personally I think this could be more important as it has safety implications if the brake fluid boils. Possible reasons are it costs f**k all to drain and bleed brakes so there is no profit margin in it.

Anyone got a good price for this work in the midlands? I was quoted 350 quid for the cambelt/tensioners/water pump.

I'm afraid it doesn't - since it appears to be wrong based on the other advice available.
