Drive The Deal prices

Featured Replies

Does anyone know the scoop with these lads http://www.drivethedeal.com/ ?

They quote an OTR price for a 1.8 TSI Elegance Estate that is about £800 below the VAT free price.

Is this for real?

Anyone managed to get dealers to go below the VAT free prices?

Cheers,

Phil

ive looked at this site with our fleet manager as all our cars are octavia's, you would be hard to beat the prices they quote, not used them yet but when we order the next car we will be trying them out.

Of course. Use this DTD price with your local dealer. Some will match it or get close

To my mind these prices are the 'real going rate' ones. Forget list prices and so called VAT free

Ordered mine through them a year to the day tomorrow! Had no issues with them whatsoever...

I recently collected my VRS after purchasing through www.carfile.net - they were cheaper than DTD. Can't fault them - put me in contact with the dealer, all your dealings are with the dealer - completely hassle free. My experience was that Scottish dealers would not entertain attempting to match either Carfile or DTD prices (probably they don't have as much competition as there is down south). In any case that was their (Scottish dealers) loss - it's a buyers market and I saved my self a pretty penny against the best deal on offer from local (Scottish) dealers.

Not sure where in Scotland you are but I used Chathams Halbeath in Dunfermline (Donald King was the salesman).

Used the DtD price as a haggling tool and he was willing to take £500 or so off the VAT free price. He couldn't/wouldn't match the DtD price but I worked out what it would cost me to collect a car from London (where the dealer DtD use is located) and added that onto their price to give a true comparison. My dealer was close enough to that price to get my business.

If you do want to use DtD though, my cousin has just bought a Yeti through them and was very happy with the whole experience.

Purchased my Octavia from them and collected it in October. A very pleasant experience with no issues. They will deliver to your house if required, but as discussed on other posts this will be a driven delivery and not on the back of a truck... I would recommend them, at the same time if your local dealer can get anywhere near the cost I would use the local option for relationship purposes...

Whatever way you chose should be an excellent purchase.

Terry

Some dealers will match them, we bought our Scout last May & a dealer matched them.

Skoda UK if asked can provide a UK dealer list, then its simply a case of ringing round

To be fair to them Ive not heard anything bad about them, I just didnt fancy a transaction of that amount on the internet

I've had two cars from DtD, dad's had one and sister's had two - always been good and easy to deal with. It's not a internet transaction at all - after the initial call to DtD you deal with a main dealer and pay everything, including the deposit, to them. Put that on a credit card and pay the balance over the phone on your debit card when it's delivered - practically no risk, no more so than dealing with your local dealer anyway.

The Octy I'm waiting on at the moment has been ordered via Carfile, purely because it was slightly cheaper than DtD (12 months road tax with Carfile, not 6!), but it's just the same process with them, I don't see any problems materialising.

Local dealers have never come close to DtD's prices IME - I don't even bother asking now. DtD will arrange delivery on a truck at additional cost, but it's often still cheaper than the local dealer.

Bought mine for £2500 cheaper than 2 local stealers.

2 half years ago now.

I saved about £2k over my local dealers, who just quoted list. List being the "VAT FREE"price!

You don't pay them you pay the dealer they put you in touch with. Once they've made the introduction you could deal with the dealer just like your local one if you can be bothered to travel there (and use up your discount doing so)

Yes I did get my dealer to go below the VAT free price, although they wouldn't match DTD.

My dealer reckons that the VAT free offer was half funded by Skoda and half out of the dealers margin, so there the dealer still probably has 5% to play with, plus whatever he might throw in to make a monthly quota bonus or the like.

To be honest I consider the VAT free price the starting point for haggling, and the DTD price is an indication what a Skoda dealer somewhere in the UK is willing to deal at.

All the dealers i tried to haggle with simply couldn't match as they 'would be making a loss'. I didn't believe this until i went to pick up my car and the salesman proceeds to tell me that they loose about £200 on each DtD car and do it to keep the sales volumes up with them being so close to London. It enables their buying power and keep their franchise or something along those lines!

I managed to get a dealer to match the DTD price.

I simply printed the price off, visted the dealer at then end of the month & left it with them stating that I would be ordering the car the next day.

Must admit it was a complete suprise when they called me, they agreed to match DTD & told me that they were making a loss on the car.

Thanks for the responses!

I'm gonna take a drive down to the central belt tooled up with DtD and Carfile quotes and see how it goes!

I've had three cars from DTD and cannot be more positive about them. The last dealer would also have offered me more for the used car than I got at auction so it is worth offering the dealer your old one in case he wants it.

I got fed up with lousy part exchange prices and sky high quotes for the new ones.

I bought from DtD years ago, know from the invoices then they didn't have any profit in the deal.

looking at their website they are miles cheaper (£700) than broadspeed for the fabia vRS but I notice the blurb is all cars ordered before 23/12/10 and includes 0% so I wonder if they have had their prices updated since Skoda's price increase ?

The Carfile quote for my spec is another £300 below the DDT quote. I notice that they don't commit to what is included, so does this include tax, 1st reg, delivery etc?

I used the DtD price to haggle with dealers in the area. No locals would match, but a dealer about 80 miles away came close. Best of all they sourced the car, to my specification, within 4 weeks.

Anything you can do to beat the dealers is worthwhile.Having just got an insight into the markups they work on (see separate new post) when trying to sell my year old Scout, I came to realise just how greedy they are. They have an easy life, your part exchange is underwritten or sold even before you take it in to them and they give you what they get for it, if you are lucky.

I failed miserably to get any decent action from Scotland's Skoda dealers!

I've just ordered a car via a broker. Jonathan at Carfile seems a nice fella, as does his dealer in the West Midlands, and the price is good, so I've gone with them. All seems painless so far, although I am a bit nervous about remote buying!

What dealers did you try mate?

It's good that you've got a good deal anyway though, I'm sure it will all be painless for you

Is it the dealer in Birmingham?

Is it the dealer in Birmingham?

I recently took delivery of my VRS having bought through Carfile and it was a Birmingham dealer. I also gave up trying to get a competitive quote from Scottish Skoda Dealers - there clearly is not enough competition up here that they feel they can 'lose' business to their English counterparts. I guess they figure they;ll still get the servicing / warranty work.

The Carfile process for me was totally painless and the dealer was brilliant - I would have absolutely no hesitation going down that route again.
