THE TOP GEAR MAG VRS REVIEW

TOP GEAR MAGAZINE REVIEW

A terrible review 100% shot down in flames!!!,a true thrashing started well until the DSG came up in this car a massive mistake, should never have put this gearbox in a icon!they even said that the clio fast hatch was a better option, that how bad it was took the vrs around a 300 mile around cumbria's roads, they loved the old vrs (diesel:yes:)the wriitings on the wall now they have to bring out the diesel version now but first audi will get it then seat then skoda!,absolute hammering c'mon VAG group get a gearbox strong enough to take the grunt of this engine, cart in front of the horse they did, this new vrs should have "fashioned a gearbox out of granite they must"(sound a bit like that green guy from starwars),this will sting vw.

I am glad i bought the elegance now,I would have plummed for the VRS but wifey said no!!!!,thats why I married her, she's always right.:giggle:

Hmmm that post was very nearly written as well as a TG article.

bit different to clarksons review in his independant times column, he gave it a good rating. look at the reviews in the top thread on this forum. It doesnt get a slating in any of them. Also ask yourself how many guys have swapped to the new vRS from their old mk1 vRS and have all said its definitely better. IMO the people who slate DSG 9 times out of 10, struggle to get used to it. when your used to it, its phenominal.

TOP GEAR FABIA vRS ESTATE REVIEW

As long as people realise this isnt a clio RS then its a very good car, if you start talking about driving like a nutter all the time, then the clio will always come top

THE FEB ISSUE NOT THIS ONE!!!

TOP GEAR MAGAZINE REVIEW

I am glad i bought the elegance now,I would have plummed for the VRS but wifey said no!!!!,

Really?!

You'd rather have an elegance than a vRS on the strength of a Top gear mag review? :giggle:

Just imagine what a crappy rating your Elegance would have had if compared to some of the hot hatches tested in that review...."looks like a pensioners shopping trolley, would struggle to pull the skin off a rice pudding, handles like Bambi on Ice-skates".... I can hear it now!

p.s my Wife INSISTED on buying the vRS, wouldn't consider anything else, thats why I married her! ;)

THE FEB ISSUE NOT THIS ONE!!!

Its obviously changed so much in those 2 months since that review then :giggle:

The Mk1 was a very good car, BUT going round corners it didn't, and even throwing loads of cash at it didn't totally solve its problem (ie a great lump of pig iron under the bonnet)

I have only had a short run out in the mk 2 compared with '000's of miles in my previous 2 mk 1's and I felt much more confident in the mk2 straight away when stuffing it into a corner. Not as much torque (but still impressive) and much more power (unless you spent Jason amounts of money) My verdict is still out on the DSG loved the smoothness in auto, would need to give it more of a test in 'manual'

If you start going on TG reviews then no one would have a mk1 vRS, which iirc went from being the best thing since sliced bread in JC's TG mag column when it was first launched, to beating a mini on the track, only to be lambasted and called a bag of ****e when it came to the cool wall. TG is now a popularist comic with no serious content on 'cars' like the TV programme.

If you start going on TG reviews then no one would have a mk1 vRS, which iirc went from being the best thing since sliced bread in JC's TG mag column when it was first launched, to beating a mini on the track,

Id also add that it only managed to beat a 1.6N/A mini cooper. Whereas the new vRS is aimed at the Cooper S flagship.

the old vRS was a Warm hatch as it was compared to the lower end performance market like the cooper and sport Ka. this new one is more of a hot hatch as its right in the mix of the big players like the Clio, GTI, Cooper S etc.

Absolutely the fabia elegance all the way,the standard fabia is not a hot hatch its a hatchback, looks like a pensioners trolley c'mon the VRS is the same on the surface, handles like bambi not at all perfect for my piles, the skoda fabia standard car comes out on top every time, sorry its not nice to hear all the negativity on the VRS but it not just TG slagging it off most of the highly rated car reporters and car engineering experts ridicule the DSG in the VRS,I agree that the car is great in auto mode but its a hot hatch and should have a manual box,6 speed or maybe 7 petrol or diesel but diesel is what it should be,its proven that the only reason that its got a dsg is plain and simple VW did not have a proper gearbox,if it had the review on the VRS would have been 10/10 easy,I hate to bring bad tidings but all the pointers point that the VRS was let down, however I wish you all the very best with your VRS'S because I love the look!,it maybe an age thing and I would have never got to grips with the DSG my opinion is never under 2.0litres and never in a small hatchbackB)

the old vRS... ...was compared to the... ...sport Ka

I don't think i've even been so offended :D

Awe the ineptitude of youth.

Why does DSG suddenly become acceptable in a Veyron, or RS8 ?? Why have Ferrari spent years developing their own version??

I thought it would be the dogs danglies to the play station generation? Even Citroen thought so with their offering (which admittedly was carp)

No I am afraid any ridicule aimed at the DSG in the vRS is just aimed because it is a Skoda, does VW get the same ridicule?

As for your opinion, that might be a little biased because you couldn't buy one because the wife said NO

I wonder if DSG haters have spent much time getting used to it.

I found it much better after doing a few hundred miles as you got used to how it worked, pattern of changing gear and when etc...

I really like it now, but for the first 50 miles I hated it.

Lets wrap a few things up here, you say the vRS handles like Bambi. But if it had a proper gear box it would be 10/10. well that doesnt make sense.

You say most of the highly rated journalists slate it. im yet to read a report where its slated. the only time they knock it down is when compare it to the dynamics of the Clio RS which in all fairness is the benchmark for practically all the hjot hatches on the market for dynamics.

You also said its 'proven that the only reason VW went for DSG is because they didn't have a proper gearbox' . so 'proven you say' lets see you extensive knowledge, no doubt taken from the articles of wikipedia and top gear magazine.

You say diesel is where it is at! Lets look at flag ship models for all the hot hatches market

Ford

Focus ST

Fiesta ST

Renault

Clio RS

Meganne RS

Vauxhall

Astra VXR

Corsa VXR

Skoda

Octavia vRS

Skoda fabia vRS

Seat

Ibiza cupra

Leon cupra

Leon FR TFSI

VW

Golf GTI

Golf R32

Plo GTI

notice the trend yet. A distinct lack of diesels. looks like all the manufacturers are wrong, and you are right. they should all use diesels as thats where its at :giggle:

with the DSG my opinion is never under 2.0litres and never in a small hatchbackB)

You should apply for a job @ VW R&D HQ in Wolfsburg as their senior advisor, armed with your monthly subscription to top gear lol

hold your horses, there's post on here with that info as for handling like bambi that was not me,that was said of the fabia elegance which it does not,you have to put the vrs against its nearest rivals polo gti and the clio,as for applying for a job at VW i WOULD LIKE TO ASK YOU A QUESTION how many skodas have you had,its important to understand loyalty you have to be there in the beginning well not that far ,lets take it from the top 1.skoda estelle rapid,2.skoda estelle 12ls,3.skoda favorit,4.skoda felicia estate 1.6slxi,5.skoda octavia estate glxi 1.9tdi,6.skoda superb2 1.9tdi s,7.skoda fabia 1.4tdi 11,8.skoda fabia 1.6 cr tdi 105bhp elegance oh 9.skoda fabia 1.4 1.,now i adore skoda's every single one hence why have been through many, they have always been under rated have they become better with vw hell yeah, would ibuy a vw hell no,all I am saying is whats out there in the ether,Iwould definate bought a vrs,if it had manual and diesel the reason is plain for me the engine is too small for a DSG and 2nd its a diesel cos I like the fuel of satan as JC would say:p,the FABIA VRS will have a manual box and a lumper up front watch this space!!!!!!

fully understand that, thats why you shouldnt believe everything you read, especially when its contradicting their own reviews

How the hell can they write so different reviews,I will be looking forward to the new JOYSTER VRS when it comes out!!,sh** I have done it again well it would have come out anyway c'mon 2012 cannot wait now, imagine it a scirocco with a skoda badge and a VRS in green silver and red oh and nearly forgot diesel and manual

Strange they've changed their opinion. Hope it doesn't effect the sales as much as when Jeremy Clarkson branded the BMW 1 series as 'crap'. Just never see them on the road anymore.. :giggle:

Well said janner-sy and well done for having your own opinion and not just reading every mag and taking their word for whether a car is crap or not. I for 1 have had both fabia vrs' and have enjoyed both but the new incarnation is by far a better car and not just praised for being a 'diesel' hot hatch which the old 1 was.

I drive mine everyday. I love it. What more do i need? If JC wants to buy me a car let him but until then i'll go with what I[/b] like to drive.

On the point of loyalty my father in law has worked with and owned skoda's as long as they've been in ireland. This is my second, my brother-in-law has a mk1 octy vrs and the sister in law a 04 fab saloon so i think i have a good bit of loyalty don't you.

On the point of dsg try and find a car mag that doesn't tell you it's the best semi auto system on the market, you'll be looking for a very long time. They have all raved about it in every car it has been built into.

Jealousy :envy: and 'under the thumbness' seem to be playing a good bit in the op's post. Why don't you let your wife on to give her opinion as it seems you only listen to hers or anyone elses not your own.

Guess if they were to bring out a Fabia vRS TDI it would be similar to the ibiza Fr CR140. not for me, way to underpowered Ibiza Fr CR140
