Which CAI for my mk1 octavia vRS?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Im a new owner of vRS octavia. Im looking at getting a Dump valve but after looking on here it seems a recirc is the way to go so a CAI will help with the "noise" of it dumpin? I would like a forge split-R so u get the atmospheric noise but would know where to start setting it up as i heard u need to set them up?

If recirc is the way forward, which CAI should i get and where from? Im not looking to spend alot really ;)

Any help much appreciated :)

Cheers

I ran an Evoms CAi on my first Mk1.

But if i had to buy again, i'd probably go for the Carbonio one.

Whats pricing? And where from? Sorry real newbie here lol

I run a carbon enclosed cone (ebay jobbie £18) with a 2.5" intercooler joiner from the MAF to the filter then 1m of 3" ally flexi ducting down to the bumper and sit it just behind the right hand grill slip with holes drilled in it very easy diy job and works a treat!!

That give more noise to dump valve i guess?

I've got an ABD CAI which sounds good

Just make sure the filter is v good otherwise youre wasting your time sucking badly filtered air into the engine.

The forge 007 dv is better/cheaper and easier to use than the split r and modifying your airbox is cheaper than a CAI and still get the same noise.

I also find mine pulls/performs better with the airbox rather than the CAI I used to run

Not entirly true I made my own CAI and cost me £40 Now I have spent £90 for filter cause I wanted a good one but you could get cheaper one!! Mine runs to the front bumper and works very well bettwer than spending £200 for the kit..

dont get what you mean ???????

what si says is right modifying the oem box and fitting it with a 3 inch intake cost about £10 and is better than any cai....

but you dont get as good a noise from the dv as you do from a decent cai

Cheers dude.

Mine cost me £25 to do Inc the k&n panel filter! (can't get a decent CAI for that I know)

Not quite as noisy as a CAI but it's not far off with holes drilled and the dv's pretty loud

ive got a BMC filter on mine with the forge 007 and it sounds sweet

Ive seen this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RECIRC-DUMP-VALVE-SKODA-OCTAVIA-VRS-1-8T-20v-Turbo-/380305867959?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item588bff04b7

I`ve got the CompBrake RV on mine, no issues, works 100% and fits under cover nicely

Did you need fitting kit or any clips etc? Or just straight swap? Seems like Compbrake 1 is way forward :D

Compbrake one is pretty good. Half the price of the forge..

Got one on mine.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but does anyone have any info on the mods to the OEM air box as an alternative to a CAI?

this sounds like a good mod... but only thing there aint no pics on the diy thread

cheers fella :)

is there a way to make a recirc valve sound more like a blow off valve I want the flutter sound. I heard a golf that sounded like that and it seeme to be running a standard recirc.

The fluttering noise is compressor stall and its not a good thing!

They have probably taken the vac hose off the DV so its not being pulled open properly, that means a lot of the boost is having to go back out through the turbo vanes.

If a turbo is run like this all the time the bearings and spindle will wear out.
