That picture of a so called Yeti Maxi is a load of crap, it's just a stretched image of a normal Yeti hence the clumsy proportions.

the 400mm stretch is obviously going to be contained around the rear of the car, a slight stretched wheelbase might be necessary because simply sticking an extra 400mm on the back end will look odd.

Maybe 200mm on the wheelbase and 200mm on the rear end perhaps? who knows?

1st reason I even consider a Yeti(s) is its compact dimension for city use.

I dont see a point of 40mm larger Yeti version, but I would like to see larger offroad vehicle from Skoda :)

One unnecessary step away from a 'stretch limo' Yeti!

I do hope Skoda come up with a better proportioned 'Yetimax' :giggle:

Pointless if you ask me.

However a touareg based Skoda 'Bigfoot' armed with the v8 diesel and a lower price tag would be on my next to buy list ;)

Hi All,

This is what the Yeti Combi may actually look like (This is a rendering from 3D Scena, a Chezk design firm)

This shows the proportions correctly and the additional length seems to have been added in the boot area (around 30 cm) and around 10cm in the wheelbase. Rumor is that there will also be a 7-seater version of this combi version!

Hmmm I don't think so. Proportions are all wrong. There will be more added to te rear doors for sure. I'll know on the 6th of March when I will see it in the metal at the Geneva Motor show. I can't wait!

Sure.. most of these images are speculative at best and the reality will come out only when officially released by Skoda. Good to know the you will be visiting Geneva. Do share the live updates!

Oh it would have been in the motoring press before I get to the show! So we'd all have seen it by the 4th of March I'd suspect.

I think it will detract from the looks, but I can't imagine Skoda investing in the extra length unless it can be a 7 seater like the Qashqai.

^^^ What he said imo! ^^^

As long as all the seats are properly flat floor removable it will do for us as our only reservation regarding the standard Yeti was the percieved lack of boot space / flexibility.

So " Bring it on"

But how many manufacturers have a version of a model available just with more boot space and no more seats? :o

I cant see it being a five seater only just with a bigger boot? :S

It definitely will have two (useless to anyone but a 4 year old) seats in the boot. There is no point going to all this engineering and expense to just allow people with bigger Samsonite suitcases to fit them. No this enlargement will only happen if they can add "7 seater" to the marketing campaign. Regardless of how small and useless those seats normally turn out to be.

However much we love our Yetis in their present form, there are many out there who have had a look and decided the boot area is too small for their needs (a friend of mine recently opted for an Octavia Scout for exactly that reason, though he preferred the style and stance of the Yeti), or who require occasional extra child seats. I've heard quite a few people say "I like the Yeti but ...". For relatively low cost Skoda can offer an extended version of the car that might appeal to that segment of the market. I personally wouldn't buy it - but Skoda already have my custom (and most of yours). With the Combi they'll be reaching out to those others, and good luck to them! B)

Well I quickly made this (crude) interpretation of what I think the Yeti Combi will look like. If it is to really grow by 400mm I'd say 300 will be in the rear door and 100mm over the back to keep the proportions correct.

And for comparison the original:

Bobdog - I don't know if we were separated at birth but I find myself agreeing with all of your posts at the moment, and I think I have had a number of thumbs up agreements to mine as well. I could not agree more with your comments about widening the market for the Yeti. For those who seem so opposed, Skoda are not going to take away the current Yeti, your cars are safe. This new model will simply attract those who have said no to a Yeti and gone to Freelanders, X-Trails, ASX's, X1's etc as they offer more luggage space. A larger boot pretty much guarantees my custom when my current lease runs out as the boot space is an issue with me. I love the rest of the car but it does nag away. A bigger boot kills its stone dead. Put me down for one!

For those in fear that their Yeti's will be forcibly removed and stretched in front of your eyes I would like to quote the great(?) Michael Winner, "calm down"

That's not crude, it's excellent! Are you any good with Fivers? :p

Aim high - fiftyers at least!

I find that people generally agree with me ... except when they are wrong! :D

Hey I find that as well!

Fred

Boot space is certainly the Yeti's biggest weakness. I am used to the boots found in Octavia and Superb Combis and the Yeti boot is a kick in the balls in comparison.

To make the stretch worthwhile, they will have to maximise the increase in boot space and offer a better tradeoff in boot and rear legroom via the sliding seats.

Be surprised if they messed about with the rear seating and doors, unless there's a stretched Golf V floorpan knocking around that nobody's previously mentioned. Mind they did do exactly that with the first Superb and a abandoned Passat project :wonder:

Well the whole point behind VAG's new platforms are that they can be stretched and altered economically to form the base of any design - and thus wheelbase. These are monocoques so there is no ladder frame chassis under the metal that needs altering. The suspension bits stay the same and much like I stretched the photo the metal monocoque just gets stretched to suit.

According to information from a reliable Czech forum, the bigger version of the Yeti is definitely in development but it is intended for the Chinese market only. Also the extra length may not be only stuck on the back.
