Servicing

Featured Replies

I had the timing belt replaced on my 2002 Octavia 110 tdi in 2007 at 40k mile service. It is now coming up to 80k Should i get it changed again, as i have not had any correspondence from the dealers.

What else should i get done,it is serviced - oil and filter change, every year.

cambelts are, iirc 4 years/60k which ever comes first. As you are 4 years since your last belt change I would get it changed, and maybe the water pump too. Possibly a new aux belt and tensioner (mine is starting to let the belt slip)

I service my 110TDi with long life oil, so it is variable servicing, thus on an oil change, I do:

- air filter

- oil + filter

every couple of years I change:

- brake fluid

- fuel filter

- pollen filter (or yearly if the cabin gets misty)

cambelt on 60k/4 years, so for me: 60, 120, 180k

good advice from mbames, might be worth changing gear oil if it has never been done too

Thanx for that info

I have just had the oil + oil filter changed, last week.

What are the prices for the other mentioned parts and do you suggest that the main dealer changes the cambelt + water pump or a mechanic who knows what he is doing?

I changed my gearbox oil around 110k, iirc. Came out looking pretty clean though.

Coolant got a top up when I changed my water pump.

Indi for the cambelt unless you can get a good price from a dealer. I do mine myself as I am tight :giggle:

Upon suggestion here, I suspect it is more likely my alternator causing issues so don't worry about the aux tensioner (plus they are another £60+)

I source pretty much all of my parts from Eurocar Parts or GSF.

By 80k your rear bumpstops might be looking a bit knackered too, so you might want to consider a suspension refresh at somepoint in the next couple of years (given your low mileage you may well get away without it). I changed my shocks all round at the 100k mark as they were starting to leak a bit, and I had some dodgy tyre wear I was trying to resolve.

Brake fluid changing - use a pressure bleeding and *don't* let air get into the system. I did, and it was a pain to fix it - even with VAGCOM helping me :dull:

I should just point out I that even though I am on LL servicing my interval comes around about once a year.
