Uniroyal Rainsport 2S

Featured Replies

I have Uniroyal Rainsport 2s on the front of my vRS SE and need some new rear tyres. The Uniroyals are proving difficult to get hold of, on back order apparently. Any others to go for?

When I looked at multiple tyre reviews and then look on multiple well known tyre websites, I couldn't find anything close in price range that matched the Uniroyal 2's reviews. Nearest in terms of quality was Conti 3's or Pilots :doh:

I've also noticed the price of Uniroyal's creeping up slowly.....hopefully just VAT....:(

They seem near impossible to get hold of - what's the problem? They've got a good product that people want to buy, yet they can't be arsed making them!! This isn't a new thing either - I spoke to a Uniroyal stockist back in July last year and he said there was a problem at the Uniroyal factory, which meant they were on back order - I was then fortunate to get two when they made a brief appearance on Kwik Fit's site, but now they seem to have gone underground again :thumbdown: .

I want two but won't be able to hold off that much longer as I'm down to 4mm on the fronts.

Don't know what you're talking about, got 2 brand new ones at the weekend..

There are plenty of threads in this section about tyres.

Toyo T1-Rs are a popular choice

Or the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3..

I didn't rate the Toyo too much - very sketchy until it was very warm.

Uniroyals are listed again on mytyres.co.uk - weren't there last week

I can't find them?

they are there!! :yes:

Camskill have T1-Rs for £69 (they used to be £60) excluding P&P http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m62b0s344p1679 They are £79 inc postage on Mytyres.

I have just noticed they may have some Rainsports. http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m62b0s344p60642 but stock is possibly due on 25th March.

I've just checked and I need a pair very soon (before March). The Toyos I got from Camsill have lasted 2 exactly years on the front though.

They are "V" rated, vRS tyres are "W" rated. Another excuse for the insurance company to shaft you.

Does it matter? Both are higher than the top speed of the car anyway. Well that's the excuse I would tell them, if they commented.

Max speeds.

V = 149 mph

W = 168 mph

Fabia = 130 mph (officially 128, I think)

According to this Skoda Germany tyre document, they only need to be V rated. Look under BLT.

Anybody got clarification from a Skoda dealer relating to this?

Insurance companies are becoming, quite frankly, robbing b4$tards, do YOU want to chance it :'(

The 205/45/16 83V or 205/45/16 83W issue has been bugging me for ages, if you use the model selector some websites say V and others W (one that says V is a German tyre retailer http://www.tyres-pneus-online.co.uk/ ).

So, I've emailed Skoda UK and asked for a definitive answer, V rated tyres would certainly make life a helluva lot easier.

V will be fine on a vrs!!

Only way a vrs would do 148 is in a wind tunnel or rolling road or off a cliff

Mine are V rated, and shall remain so :)

Try Best Buy Tyres - around £76 each at the moment I think!

I have just looked at MyTyres and they are now selling both V and W rated Rainsports. W = £84.80 and V for £86.10.

This may be useful. http://www.tyresearcher.com/Cheapest_197_205-45-16-_Uniroyal-Rainsport-2-tyre-price.html It searches the 5 places to get quotes.

I think Best Buy Tyres was mentioned by AutoExpress a few weeks ago. That price looks like it includes fitting as well. :thumbup:

83 Ws are £110.90 not fitted at MyTyres.

I've given up and bought 2 Toyo T1-R from Camskill for £144 delivered.

I hit a pothole at 4.30am on Wed. morning (I was going to Liverpool to catch a flight - had to park the car up and go for the train - made it to John Lennon Int. about an hour before the flight was due to leave so not bad going!).

Anyway, this obviously upgraded the need for two new fronts from sometime soon to immediate so called into Performance Tyres in Anniesland yesterday - guy 'phoned Continental and two Rainsport 205/45/16/W are on the way (should get them fitted on Tuesday or possibly Monday) :thumbup: .

How much did you get them for fitted please?

I've still to pay but he quoted me about £85 (paid £80 for the rears in Kwik Fit last year) so just told him to fire ahead and order them.

Rainsports on the front fitted today - £83.82 each - now suited and booted all round in Rainsport 2 205/45WR16 - thanks to Performance Tyres in Anniesland :thumbup: . No more potholes please...

Camskill are by far the cheapest, £132 for a pair delivered (plus £20 fitting). On Saturday I noticed they eventually have some in stock. It said 'Stock Available for Next Working Day Dispatch (ex.Sat/Sun) if ordered before 4:00pm (Mon-Fri)'. However by Monday there was no stock. They had them last night, but not today. This is for the W rated tyres. It says the V rated ones are comming in next week (23rd Feb).

The cheapest alternative I have found, so far, is North East Tyre & Exhausts at £161 fully fitted, although they would have to order them from the warehouse. I didn't ask what speed rating they are.
