Hi All...

I'm on the way to getting a Fabia VRS. I'm looking for an 05 or 06 model. My question is, if I get a completely standard VRS what upgrades/modifications would people recommend I get considering the issues/faults that come up with some of the standard equipment i.e suspension/bushes/stereo/door seals etc... I know I’m going to be getting the car chipped but am not sure what else I should do? Lowering maybe? Lol, I’m a bit of a noob if I’m honest. I'm not into in your face mods like body kits and alloys. But upgrades that keep the car running smoothly and powerfully.

It's a good idea to make sure the car can stop and handle safely and predictably with the extra power. Something along the lines of Eibach springs with uprated shocks or AP/Weitec/KW coilovers will help the handling, along with a Jabba or Whiteline rear anti-roll bar. Don't skimp on the tyres either!!

As for the brakes, the 312mm Octavia vRS/Audi TT/Leon Cupra upgrade is well-proven on here

Sounds good! Well I have a budget of 6k for the car and 1.5k for upgrades and modifcations. Hope that gets me what i'm after lol What about a decent head unit? any suggestions?

Because a lot of that depends on the map and the driving style, I would be tempted to just budget for a clutch change at some point and just do it when a problem actually becomes noticeable. You may well get thousands more miles out of an original clutch, even one that slips slightly from time to time.

Parts prices are fairly competitive it's the bloody garage labour charges, that the killer!!

You can easily change all 4 filters and do an oil change yourself ,

this would probably save you approx £50.00 in labour charges alone !!

Where about are you? I have found finding a decent independent specialist has been worth its weight in gold tbh

Yeh they always put a premium on labour! Im based in South Oxfordshire, Wallingford. Just need to find a decent specialist as you say Matt. Lol oh and a decent Fabia VRS so i can make a start

Brown's in Thame are reasonably close to you - around 16 - 17 miles, I think. Very good for VAG vehicles. They're also a site sponsor, so have a look at their listing.... They've just done the 80K service on my vRS. Not terribly cheap, but a good deal less than the local Skoda dealer quoted, and a good job as always.

Awesome. Its nice to know there is someone local that can do it. Just wish my Fiesta ST would sell now! Need a fabia in my life lol

ST, i have one of them too. You`ll miss the "nimbleness" of it, but i prefer the fabia. Cheaper to run too!

Yeh thats true. Dont get me wrong, its a decent car and very nimble as you say but im only getting 210 miles out of a full tank lol. I never even drive it hard well almost never lol. How many miles do you get out of the fabia Matt?

I never really fill up. But if I use the ST for work daily, it`ll cost me near double in fuel. I drive "briskly" but to do that in the fabia, it doesnt need flooring all the time, but if I drive the ST I feel like I have to redline it to progress. It is quick, but just needs to be worked to get it going. My mrs uses it more than me TBH, but she only poodles about in it so not too bad.

The fabia feels much more bolted together (not that the ST has given me any trouble), and for cruising, the ST is dying for a 6th gear, while the fab cruises nicely at 70-80.
