Car goes in at 12:30 tomorrow after work for its mufflerectomy, the guy thinks it'll be about £50, i'm going to ask him to look at the centre section and see if it needs replaced, since I have a spare in very good condition anyway. Also bonnet lifter kit is being posted today so should be here for the weekend :) No more spending on the car for a while as insurance is due a week on tuesday and also have a show n' shine on the 21st to prep the car for, shame it wont be lowered by then but at least it should look and sound good!

where is the show and shine mate?

Inverary Castle in Argyll. Its an event run by the Scottish modified forum Fyneline which i'm a member of. All proceeds are going to Marie Curie Cancer Support. Theres going to be various detailing specialists giving demonstrations as well as some other car related features and a big BBQ. Theres quite a few other car clubs attending, worth a trip if your free that day

Small update, bonnet lifter kit arrived.

2011-08-05151541.jpg

Really easy to fit and looks excellent, also replaced the bonnet clip with a spare I bought so it matches the rest.

2011-08-05160908.jpg

I had to trim the edges of the clip part a little with a stanley knife but other than that it finishes it off nicely.

Got the mufflerectomy done yesterday, bit of a rough job but for £50 cant complain, anyway decided to disconnect it and tidy it up, however word to the wise never jack a car up hungover.

2011-08-06140422.jpg

Car jack slipped and that was the result, touched it up with some paint to hide it but i'll fill and paint it properly tomorrow.

Anyway the mufflerectomy,

They chopped the backbox out and replaced it with a straight pipe going into one of the pipes, then used the other pipe to attach a bracket for hanging the exhaust.

On closer inspection the welds weren't great either, so out came the welder and we got them up to scratch.

Also replaced the old coupling with the spare which was in better condition.

Some more shots of the exhaust.

We also made use of the spare hanger, tidied the welds, filled the small hole they left, now sounds great. I'll get a video up shortly.

Noticed that the bonnet is sitting slightly high, cant work out how to lower it back to being flush;

Also on the slam panel I painted over the sticker, its come up quite nicley so decided too keep it the way it is.

looking good bud i like the green inside the slam panel air inlet....was that hard to remove? then slam panel?

Cheers Scott, nah slam panel is a doddle to remove, just need to make sure you have an M8 spline piece for the corner bolts

to drop the bonnet down you have to adjust the lock only.

4 torx (2 at the top of the lock and 2 at the bottom).

it should give you about 10mm to play with up or down.

Do you mean the lock mechanism? I didn't think there adjustable, could you post a picture of the part you mean if possible please

don't have any good pictures at the moment but it is the part you removed to paint the slam panel where the cable attaches to.

once you loosen the 4 bolts you can move it left and right AND up and down and it should give you loots of play.

it is easier to do that with grill removed so you can adjust once the bonnet is locked.

also once you do that you can still use the rubber stop buffers (they screw in and out) to fine adjust each corner.

good reading...admire your time and effort....

downsides..think grill only looks well colour coded to car....and imo the catch tank is a lot of wasted time and effort without any gains...much simpler to block intake and vent to atmosphere.

but good work emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Had a fiddle about tonight and hasn't made much difference, I then tried the hinges which made the most difference but it still isn't perfect.

Thanks mate, I like the colour coded grill but everyone has done it so thought I'd try something different, may go black, bot sure yet. Given up on the catch can idea for now as it was far too big.

reguarding the bonnet not lining up correctly. have you removed the orange clip for the old bonnet stay as a couple of people had problems with their bonnets not lining up after fitting. it was said you had to remove this to allow the bonnet to sit flush

just a thought

Adjusted the bonnet on its hinges so it was sitting as far forward as possible, the gap is smaller on the passenger side however the gaps above the headlight and at the sides are way off!

I'm going to try aligning the bonnet again but im starting to wonder if the bonnet is buckled or something :(

Also need to have the lights aligned as they aren't focussing much light onto the road, its more just scattered about

Yeah done that

Its one thing that puts me off slightly getting the lifter kit, ive seen a few fabias were the bonnet sticks up, looks like bad build quality, not closed correctly or its had a small bump.

On a side note I have bonnet raisers on my track saxo, and I still get to this day "Your bonnet is not shut mate!?"

Its just a bit frustrating that everyone elses seem's to be fine, I wouldn't let my experience put you off as i'm starting to think the bonnet lifter kit isn't the proplem
