Got the car back last night, overall very happy with the work, car looks a lot tidier now, got a few photos last night but will get some more once the car has been cleaned. Also shark fin ariel is installed, reception is better than original by far.

I was talking to my mate that works in the bodyshop about getting the tailgate resprayed next, possibly smoothed off not sure yet, also the door handles as he said its a fairly cheap and simple thing to do, i'll probably just paint the number plate surround myself.

Looks good mate, I like the grille. I think you should do the foglight trims the same, maybe even the wing mirrors?

Cheers mate, I like the foglight idea think i'll need to do a bit of photoshopping tonight

Looking very good mate, possibly my favourite on here. Liking the idea of the foglight surrounds. I'm in the process of changing the colour of mine. Will get some pics when its all done. Also planning on doing the mirror caps, will finish it off nicely.

A few things arrived today so instead of cleaning the car I got started on them;

Whiteline RARB

VW Bora Wing Mirror Glass

Also picked up a few things from Skoda

Coolant Connection

Boost Pipe Clip and Bonnet Trim Clip

2011-06-16151407.jpg

I swapped over boost pipe clips first as its a quick thing to do, the original was pretty out of shape when you compared the two.

Then fitted the RARB, dead easy to do only took about 30 mins though I had to grind off the original bolts for the shocks.

I then fitted the wing mirror glass, soldered then used heat shrink on the wires, again a fairly simple task.

I really like the blue glass, something different and easy to do. Also went out a drive too see how the rarb felt, the rear end is solid, put the bar to its stiffest setting, didn't get much chance to do some progressive driving but even just coming off roundabouts the car felt awesome!

good work mate, apparently its best kept in medium setting for the rarb, but i guess its down to each driver, where did you get your mirror glass from?

Cheers Scott. After doing some reading on the rarb it seems most people start with it on medium them move onto hard so I thought I might aswell just go for it from the start, what a difference its made! I got the mirror glass off ebay, £25 for both new delivered the next day

Been respraying my roof bars as they are getting used in a few weeks time when I go too T in the Park;

Resprayed the covers gloss black and cleaned the bars themselves, then used trim spray too bring back the black, overall happy with the results.

Removed the oil dipstick and dipstick tube too respray;

Also got a present from my parents, a Britool 83 piece socket and spanner set :D

A little news on the respray, not happy with the results so going back tomorrow. I had a guy from another bodyshop have a look he pointed out 3 dings in the bonnet plus crap in the laquer, orange peel effect on the roof and a DA burn to the spoiler. It appears they have rushed the finishing stages so i'll see what they say, hopefully they will accept responsability and sort out thier mistakes, sadly not everyone is that honest so we'll see what happens.

My order from cleanyourcar.co.uk arrived yesterday. I'm going to do some practice on my dads mgb since its being restored at the moment and resprayed later, its solid paint though no laquer coat so not sure what difference there will be. Anyway pictures;

Today I also sorted the shark fin ariel as the seal had folded in on itself first time round. Hoping tonight to get some practice with the DA.

I know they were much worse than i'd realised, suprisingly there was plenty left on the pads however

  • Author

Had a shot of the DA last night, done some practice on the MGB's door panel, its solid paint so not sure how much different results will be when I do the vRS. Should also mention the condition of the door panel is much worse than the vRS but its good enough to practice, wook quite a few before and after pictures, more of a reference for me than anything else.

Quite impressed with the results as it took out some of the worst scratches, scuffs etc. One thing i'll need to remember which I only noticed after the first few shots was going over the tape line in between sections, guess its just practice to get good at it. Any tips more than welcome!

Be careful you don't spend too much time in one spot as you can scorch the paint very easily. Also might be good to use a spray of water with the polish to keep the heat down and reduce friction slightly. Well done with all the mods the car looks ace.

Cheers mate, I had noticed the surface was quite warm at some points. Does it have to be water or is there anything else that can be used? I was using panel wipe after each session to remove any excess on the panel, could this be used instead of water?

Roofbox is on, ready for T :D

2011-07-06215803.jpg

Have to say it is unbelievably fun overtaking people with a roof box attached, the look of surprise is priceless!

Nice of them to give you PZ or philips head screws holding your rear disks on. Mine are Torx T30, unfortunately.

Anything liquid like that should do. Panel wipe might evaporate a bit too fast. Its just to stop the paint from getting too hot and blistering. If you're careful and move around enough you should be fine.

Great work so far by the way. Can't believe how much you've done so fast.
