dude re that 65mm coupler you need to check with them the size of the other side as though the bit that goes into the egr is 65mm they can do differing sizes for the silicone to attach to,

if you look here on forges website gives you some idea, ive brought a 51mm one before which attached to the 60mm fitting

http://www.forgemotorsport.com/content.asp?inc=product&cat=&product=FMABHC

they do 60mm 63mm and 68mm so it could actually be 63mm for the egr

Okay cheers, i'll double check before I buy anything.

I just checked the dimensions I took of the EGR Valve when I cleaned it and its apparently 63mm, i'll check it again tomorrow to be sure

Okay so these arrived today;

2011-05-14125255.jpg

A vRS Dovit Stainless Boost Pipe and a 60mm bayonet coupler, bought from TrevorB33.

Since the weekend is finally here and i've time to actually measure the OD of the boost pipes I used a set of Vernier Calipers which are insanely accurate once you work out how to use them properly lol Anyway with everything measure up I bought;

Forge Motorsport Bayonet Coupler

Samco 60mm - 51mm Reducing 45 elbow

Samco 60mm - 51mm Reducing 90 elbow

This means I can now replace the entire upper boost pipework with uprated versions and hopefully no more boost leaks

good to see you got them okay mate

This coupler fits into the EGR valve, now im just waiting for my 2 Samco silicone bends and I can replace all the upper boost pipes, I reacon it will be another 3-4 weeks before they arrive. Does anyone know of an easy way to access the top of the intercooler to remove the oem pipe, its looking like a bumper off job unless anyone knows of a better way?

Cheers mate, care to share some of those ideas?

After seeing yours was thinking of doing mine in blue. Got an appointment with the seat surgeons on 10th June, so will have a nice starting point :-)

Sounds good, I wish my budget could stretch to a visit to seat surgeons, thier work looks excellent. What colour scheme have you gone for?

Black and blue :-)

Recieved the first pictures of my Oil Catch Can, its a variation on the Saikou Michi design. It has a detachable lid, 19mm fittings and an allen head drain plug. The pictures show the basic can itself, were going to have a mock fitting tomorrow as the deisgn has changed slightly so we need to be sure it fits. I've attached the initial design plan, it is a work in progress so bear that in mind please.

Oil Catch Can

TIG Weld

IMG00900-20110516-1552.jpg

Most oil catch cans contain some sort of filter or medium to help in the seperation of the oil vapour, steel balls and steel wool seem to be quite commom. However I have read of strands of steel wool being drawn into the engine and causing damage to the cylinder walls, seals etc. So I decided to try something different, my design contains a cone shaped crankcase breather on the outlet pipe, therefore the oil vapour will enter the can, seperate (hopefully) and then the vapour will be filtered by the breather before being recirculated into the intake. Since the outlet is filtered I may try adding steel wool etc but i'll try it with just the filter first.

The lid of the can is held in place by 4 bolts, with a seal inbetween the lid and flange. This means that I can easily access the can in order to change or clean the filter etc. Initially I will be using a cheap clear hose so I can see if it is working, I plan on using a length of Samco hose (Lime Green) so it matches the colour scheme of the engine bay once I am satisfied with the results.

Finally, the can will be mounted in front of the engine bay and will be finished in black.

Thanks mate, im looking into changing the alloys for something a little different, a green lip might work on them now you mention it.

Nah photo was taken at my uncle's work, probably one of his mates though

The car has been booked in for some work on the 13 June;

Respray;

Spoiler - £60

Roof - £150

Bumper - £120

The laquer is peeling on the spoiler, the roof has apparently been previously repaired (badly) so thats getting sorted and resprayed, the bonnet has some nasty stone chips, an overspray patch and a few scratches so its getting done aswell. There is also an overspray patch on the rear bumper thats getting sorted. I'm using Simon's Accident Repair Centre in Irvine as I know one of the guys there and a few of my mates have had work done there aswell. The price is roughly what I though it would be so cant complain.

Once i've had the bonnet resprayed I'd like to keep it stone chip free so was thinking of getting a

Bonnet Bra, has anyone had any experience with them?

You not thought about getting the bits wrapped instead?

I thought you had to take the bra off to clean it once a week? could be alot of faff!

Mike, I got my sfs lower ic hose yesterday and i fitted it and it was a pig! is you hard pipe (the metal bit) touching the sump? someone else said it was a pig to fit and I can see why! it seems that the sfs is a little bit bigger than the original so its a squeeze to fit thus pushing the pipe closer to the sump.

I hadn't thought about getting them wrapped, though from what i've heard unless the paint is in really good condition the wrap can come out quite bad.

Yeah its a good bit bigger, mines just fitted without my hard pipe touching the sump. You could trim a little of the silicone hose at either end which could make it fit more comfortably.

I've made up a checklist to get through in time for the cars first show at Ingilston on 17th July, its going on the Fyneline Stand at the Scottish Modified Car Show :).

The List

Respray - Booked

Boost Pipes - Ordered

VW Blue Wing Mirror Glass - £30 - £40 est.

OCC - Nearly Finished

Respray Battery Cover - Going Lime Green with Black Stickers

VW Shark Fin Ariel - £40 est.

O/S Alloy Refurb - Damaged during winter

Metal Plates - Undecided

Koni STR.T Kit - (£330) Undecided

When the car is in getting resprayed the various items that have been painted i.e Strut Brace, Engine Cover, Grille Surround, Roof Rails will be getting resprayed aswell as a few other new pieces that i'm tempted to do.

The car got its 7000 mile service this weekend, oil change, oil filter change and green cotton filter cleaned.

Thanks to Opie Oils got 25% discount so quite happy with the price. I use Castrol Edge as my choice of oil.

2011-05-27124052.jpg

Got a free air freshener too :D

Anyway whilst I had the strut brace off to get into the air filter I decided to give it a quick respray as there were a few chips in the paint, its going back on tonight. I also repsrayed my battery cover to match the rest of the engine bay (pictures to follow).

The oil catch can is going to be assembled tonight and hopefully get the mounts made up aswell then its a matter of painting it and getting a hose, few more pictures;

19mm pipe

2011-05-25201645.jpg

This will be the inlet pipe, the holes will be facing the bottom of the tank and the hose will attach to the machined end.

2011-05-26174630.jpg

This will be the outlet, pipe attached to machined end, air filter attaches to the other end and will be located inside the can.

IMG00922-20110527-0854.jpg

Hopefully my boost pipes will arrive next week and all things going to plan another bit of kit aswell. Waiting to hear back from Skoda on a price for a VW Shark Fin Ariel.

Next months purchases have been revised and now include;

Blue Wing Mirror Glass - £30

Exhaust - £60

Bonnet Lifter Kit - £50

Pressed Metal Plates (2 sets: 1 road, 1 show) - £60

Number Plate Holder - £20

Number plate surround is being colour coded when I have the bumper off to fit boost pipes. Also considering painting my vrs dovit stainless boost pipe black as it would be the only stainless pipe in the engine bay and might look a bit out of place.

The Oil Catch Can has been completed, the bracket has just been made so going for a test fitting tonight then paint and buy a hose tomorrow, extremely happy with the way its come out;

Theres also a drain plug on the underside of the can.

Also made a few changes to the engine bay, this is how it looks so far;

2011-05-30164018.jpg

For the battery cover I simply sprayed over existing sticker, peeled them off the laquered :)

Got another little project started which hopefully should be finished this week, will post pictures once its completed

looking good chap, where do you plan on mounting your catch tank? I'm planning on fitting one myself but cant see an obvious place tol bolt it to?

Cheers mate, the bracket will use the existing holes in place for the bonnet catch, the can itself sits just above the oil filter, its quite a snug fit in there but its about the only place i've seen them mounted
