not yet... must ring up... should be painted by now.. been too busy at croft...

Nick,

any pics of the i/c airflow mode yet?

I want to try and do this before going upto Jabba.

Cheers.

Adrian.

p.s 7 days and counting down to Jabba time!:D

Modded the arch liner to improve the air flow around the IC this morning. Very simple; the hardest thing was cutting the liner.

So what did I use as my vent? Wire mesh? Plastic styling mesh? A sheet of ali body work repairer? No. I used an ali air vent for a house!

Adrian - thanks for jolting my conscience. My pics are now available here

The requested URL /vent1.htm was not found on this server.

:(

It is now - I just edited it

Nick, that is a page worthy of the FAQ. Well done!

Aw shucks ... :o

looks good nick.... nearly as good as the original!

lol - imitation is the sincerest form of flattery :D

I admit I didn't pretty it up much - could have cleaned up the aperture better but figured it's in the wheel arch so who's going to be looking :p

exactly... cant see mine at all now.. doubt you will see much one your new 3 spring set up is on...

Good job Nick!

Saved me doing one.;)

Almost exactly how I did it. I also used some double sided foam strips to stick the ven t in place and used self tapmg screws in each corner. Then sealed the edges with silicone sealant. Would have used a pop riveter but I don't have one.

Will post pics on Monday.

Cheers.

Adrian.

will post a pic when i get home...

As promised here's a couple of pics showing the airvent I put in to improve the airflow around the I/C:

Hmmm...that didn't work very well. Here goes again:

286.attach

That's better...and here's another one:

287.attach

What's behind the vent? Is there any risk from water getting in? Did you have to cut through metal in the wheel arch?

  • Author

theres no metal to cut.. just plastic... a mesh stops stones entering...

Is there any powergain in doing this mod?

  • Author

cant hurt to improve airflow over the i.c.

Looking good Adrian - like the vent - nice and sturdy - may consider replacing mine with one of these if the flimsy ally mesh gets bent by any stones etc.

I don't know whether there is any performance to be gained from doing this but all 1.8T Audis have this venting so, what's good for them is definately good for me and my Octy.;)

I'm sure the is negligible affect at low speeds but higher up I reckon that the air passing through the vent will provide better cooling for the I/C (well that's what I hope).

Rob,

more or less directly behind where I have put the vent is the intercooler.

Cheers.

Adrian.
