Just stumbled across this, can't believe this was over 3 years ago now! I remember it clearly, fun day out. Hope you guys are good and the Yetis are behaving.

  • About time we had another go!

I'd say traction wise the Scout will have no problem. But ground clearance might be a slight issue as there are a couple of steps, plus the longer overhangs on the Octavia might hinder progress slightly.

Quick bumpity bump.

Any more takers?

Just a quick note, the route I've planned out is very safe and no risk of any major problems. The chance of vehicle damage is extremely low. I was going to say impossible but I can't be held responsible if you decide to drive into a tree during the drive for example. I've done the entire route in a borrowed 4x4 a few days ago and no problems at all. I would say if you get time to wax your Yeti prior to this trip then I would do so just in case you get a little close to twigs from trees, helps to prevent what we call 'pin striping...' should you get a bit close!

The more the merrier, I'm hoping for some cool photos of Yetis.

If it ends up being a good success, we'll do an even bigger one in the Summer down to Salisbury Plains!

Hi James

I'm going to be away from home next week (ending up in Surrey on 27th)so I was wondering if there are any more last minute details for our off-road adventure? You have my contact details and I can get emails on my mobile so please contact me via that if necessary. Really looking forward to meeting everyone. :hi:

Trevor

I hope everyone enjoy's themselves.

I'm having a brief stay in hospital for a few days starting Monday 28th. emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif

I'm looking forward to it as well.

Hope all goes well Mac D

Mike

No plans to change anything yet.

I'll be doing the final test of the route in the Yeti I'm taking next Friday, just to make sure everything is 100% fine with the route.

See you all at Bocketts Farm car park about 0930 to leave once everyone has arrived.

Great. I'll be there as long as your service dept gives Elsie back to me. BTW, no tiptronic problems since the 2 I mentioned before.

I'm sure there will be no issues!

See you all at the weekend.

Do we actually know how many other Yetis will be along?

According to the poll, 8 Yeti's are coming, or rather, 8 people have said that they will be attending.

Mike

Yes I was trying to figure out of that 8 who was bringing Yetis and how many are passengers etc.

Would be a rather impressive turnout if 8 Yetis came!!

Maybe change the poll - ie bringing Yeti, bringing other, passenger etc....

These are listed as coming:

900000 user_popup.png, jan25 user_popup.png, rockhopper user_popup.png, yeti be ready user_popup.png, bal user_popup.png, TJK user_popup.png, AndyC user_popup.png, Ricardo Tavares

And the last one is from Portugal?!!? Ricardo did you really mean to tick that box that you are coming?

I will look into adding another line to the poll as suggested by Mike.

Done. So just delete your old vote and also answer the second question. I trust I do not need to add any more questions? Own Yeti and Passenger only should be enough?

Yes I spotted the chap from Portugal, but even excluding him that leaves 7 people and of those people they are all (I'm fairly sure) drivers.

So that means 7 Yetis plus the 1 SkodaUK are kindly supplying me with means 8 Yetis on the day, what a cool sight that will be!

The weater on Sunday looks like it will be nice too.

Sunny all day and no rain either so the lanes should be nice and the views lovely too!

Looking forward to it!

Didn't somebody want to come in another 4x4?

Depending on how much sun we have this week there may be a bit of a water hazard to go through and a muddy patch. There is also a bit of a twisty undulating technical section which even manage to render my Landcruiser stationary if you took it the wrong way. There is a very dusty lane too.

I'm quite sure you're Yeti will be a different colour once we've finished!

Plus some nice ascents and descents to play with including one uphill section that is fairly rocky and gravelly so it'll test the Haldex system out nicely.

Yeti Adventure: Surrey

James at Allams has been trying to arrange a drive down a 4x4 only country lane for some time now. We have agreed a date and it will be Sunday the 27th of March. I've added a public poll above so we can all see who will be coming.

If anyone can help James with a Yeti to scout the lane before the 27th he'd appreciate that. I'm fully booked with a few weddings and the Geneva Motor show as well as doing a house up over the next month. Here is a view of the lane and why James would prefer to scout it first:

Damn, I should have copyrighted that photo!

Are you sure you took it? I thought Adrian took that photo when we went out that day.

I think I've washed him twice in 5000 miles... so no! And that is always exactly why I chose a colour that is easy to keep clean. But SUVs (even softroader ones like a Yeti) just look better to me when dirty!

Have voted in new poll. looks good for next Sunday.

As I said at Mogador (that was a lovely day, wasn't it?), "Some people just don't care....."!

But, actually, I agree - they do look better dirty!

Room for one more? I thought I'd be away but plans have changed - SK10ODA is suitably waxed up (the car not me) and equipped with a tyre compressor. I've even still got the M+S winter tyres on - amply tested the S capabilities over Christmas, time to check out the M in some good old British mud.
