Mountie,

Who is your tuner? Any reason why you've gone for a GT30? A Garret T34 with .55 exhaust housing would've made 340bhp all day long..

No reason just wot I bought at the time...

Hi buddy look forward to your results.

Why do you state the front needs altering to FIT Forge one?? Is the FMIC not for a Skoda Oct VRS then. As per the pro alloy large FMIC no cutting is needed. Am i missing something there...

Is it because you do not have the Forge modded crash bar that comes in the kit as yes that is modded to alloy fitting of the FMIC to it and is also vented holes to allow more air to come into FMIC.

You got it bud, I did not get crash bar as at the time I did not know.So I may just buy a bar and modify it if need be.I don't want to have to cut front bumper and put that chavy mesh  on it look sh..!!!. Just got my straight cut gear box today finaaly after 4 weeks...owwww can't wait to see how long it takes me to blow this thing up...LIKE ALL THE REST... not a cheap game.

okay lol

be good to see what it does

you got any picks of the new engine or car going to be a monster

did you change the compression ratio and displacement on the new engine???

make sure you post up the logs with this cooler on please

good luck mate

Yes the engine is bored out to a 2.1 litre now...and the head is ported and polished, with titainum valves and race cams...

Odd choice.. my experience with GT30's is that they have quite a long turbo threshold so boost quite late.

What exhaust housing are you using? Internal or external wastegate?

nice that should help the torque lol

what monster tmic did you go for on the subaru??? do you have a pic of the scooby's tmic as im very intersted ;-) as you know how much of a pain in the arse fitting a front mount to a scooby is...

pics pics pics we want pics

Is that you think you're using an external wastegate? :)

by how much did u need to drill the sensor mount m8 ? .... the godspeed one does say it may need altering :wonder:

just shy of 1inch be really carfull not to let drill bit fall through as the internalls are close...drills out really easy...just be sure it has a very tight fitting around the o ring on sensor...

Nice.. what is the a/r of the exhaust housing?

Have to agree - but hopefully the extra engine capacity may help to drop the boost threshold to a sensible level, and if 340bhp is the target then may also get away with a fairly small exhaust housing, as long as it keeps away from surge in midrange. The GT30 we have on the TT does nothing below 3800rpm and 1.6bar at 4600rpm but then holds onto that all the way to 7800 redline - this is fine for race use but would be horrible to drive on the road. It will need a careful balancing act to get the right exhaust housing size to get the boost early enough but without surge and exhaust restriction at high rpm. Look forward to seeing the results! :)

am i reading that right? a forge FMIC for £94 delivered? i was looking for one of these on the forge website and they are quoted at £714 inc VAT. Surely i must be looking at the wrong thing?

ya that is right there a copy of the godspeed one that is only £240ish I will have all the details soon on theses as my car is being mapped soon.

UKMKIVS had a group buy on these last month and it came in at £94 delivered , and someone got some logs :

and heres a graph of the forge SMIC

SMIC

the forge fmic is still in the region of £400 i think. bought my smic from godspeed directly, shipped form US - came in a week and for £280 including shipping - still cheaper thatn the forge. fitted it with no problems at all - didnt need to drill the sensor hole at all :wonder:

Fitted my mates to his mark 4 golf gti t and other than a captive spinning and screw snapping off in old cooler to take sensor out was all good other than than easy to fit just needed a few bolts etc deeper sound better throttle response and holds boost lovely....

Right I have my tuner who has built 3 cars for me now and not one did I have a big front mount on and the other 2 he built where running over 500 bhp so he does know what he is on with,As for this cheap intercooler it is pearly a suck it and see thing for the numbers that is all if it don't work it comes off simple.I have a forge one sat in my house now but the front needs to be altered to fit it,that is what I DONOT want to do..And this is not just for track it is road legal as well...So this is just a experment that is all

Richm and Westlac are spot on with this

IMO you need to find a better engine tuner, this ones a fecking idiot if he thinks that that uprated SMIC can support your engines AF requirements to run 400+ bhp lol.

A good engine tuner with an average education should be able to calculate what size intercooler core your engine requires to reach your target hp, its not rocket science.

Without knowing the specific details of your engine spec and final target horsepower, I've done a quick calculation for you to give a "ball park" figure of what size internal intercooler core flow area is required to achieve 400 bhp.

The absolute minimum internal core flow area required for 400 bhp comes out @ 28 square inches...BUT you then need to allow a margin for the density of the core type you are using, which could add up to 40% extra, giving you a total of 40 square inches of internal intercooler core flow area.

HTH
