Best bang for your buck?

Featured Replies

Just a quick question on what's the best modifications for the money on the fabias?

My plan for the short term is:

A set of coilovers (£300-£500) ?

Remap (£300-£400)

Tints (£200)

RARB (£150) < do these really make much difference? Worth out lay?

Colour coded grill (£???)

Any thing else that's a worth while mod?

Basically my sig lol. Minimal money maximum benefit.

The best £4£ modification has to be the RARB. Makes the car soo much more progressive through the bends. Lift off oversteer is also pretty fun

RARB, 312mm brakes and a good remap are the best three mods you can do to a Fabia without being silly

+ uprated spring.

Quote for truth.

Oh, a good service, Brake fluid change, and remove the spare wheel, replace with can of tyre foam.

That makes sense guys. I'm not sure on the tire removal as this would make a nose heavy car even more un balanced?

A remap is a no brainer and I'm lookin Into coilovers as the highthe stock fabia is a joke! Lol. Most springs bring the car down 30-40mm and this makes the car look better but the car needs a 60mm + drop to look good IMO. wietech are ok I've heard?

I like the look of the wrapped grill so that's a quick cheap mod.

Does any one have a link to a set of 312mm brakes? Are these just oem tt front brakes?

replace with can of tyre foam.

The people who recommend this have clearly never had a blowout.

The can of foam is as much use as a chocolate fire guard after the tyre gets wrecked.

Give me a spare wheel any day ( even a space saver is better than foam )

Castrol super dot 4 £12ish

Resistor mod £15ish

Jabber rear anti roll bar £200

Sorted :)

Yeah. Mine came from an early S3

Resistor mod hahahahaha.

Get some 4G, pop battery in boot!

Yup, never had a blow out.

If I did (God forbid on a road which was busy at the time), I'd just call AA.

Lots of cars come with tyre foam cans these days.

You serious?

I dont have a spare wheel with my lupo gti and im always ****ting myself on a long journey praying i dont get a puncture

 Spare wheel gives peace of mind.

I was lucky with mine - four years of ownership and no punctures!

Hit a pothole with the Fabia a couple of weeks back and the spare tyre was a godsend (fortunately no damage to the alloy).

One of the reasons I didn't buy a BINI Cooper was itn did not have a spare wheel, and it had rock hard runflat tyres. In 4 and a half years ownership I have only once got a puncture (a screw) in a tyre. I was glad I had a spare. If I buy a brand new car next and the spare is an option, it is the only option I would definitely have.

Anyway, going back to the original subject, I would imagine a Remap is the best bang for buck, although a decent digital tuning box may be cheaper with similar results.

Remap, 312mm brakes, and replacement speakers if you use the stereo for anything other than radio 4.

Biggest band for buck would be to swap the TDi for a 225 1.8t, brakes and remap. I'd bet the net cost could be less than a grand if you shop around, not bad for ~240 bhp and 50kg saved. Won't mention the increase in insurance or the near doubling of you fuel bill.

Lol. Brain swap the tdi out for a 1.8t! I've not got my fabia yet but if I wanted a 1.8t I'd jut buy an audi TT or S3! The point of fabias is sporty diesel with good economy and speed.

I'm still thinking what I have in my first post is a good start? Lol.

Yup. He asked for best bang per buck. Much Cheaper than a "performance air filter and pd160" and makes much more of a difference. Ran one many years back. Downside being you have to reset the engine light.

Rear arb and a remap are the two best mods to do.

I guess you don't take your car anywhere off the beaten track then, or where there might be poor mobile phone reception?

Remap.

Rarb and strut brace

Lowering springs or coilovers.

Personally I'm not going to bother with the 312 brakes as I think the stopping power is fantastic already.

Knew I should have put a smiley. :p

However you did ask for best bang per buck and I doubt you'll beat the BHP increase per pound over that engine swap from standard, 280 BHP is possible out of that lump with the right exhaust & intercooler(s) for not much cash.

Fabia with a 1.8t is at least 250kg lighter than a TT, and I think more than that for a S3, plus the vRS is cheaper to buy, run and insure, shame the TT & S3 would leave it over the twisty stuff.
