Nice car :-)

Nice colour.

Glad to hear you are happy with the car.

What a big spoiler, what is it like to reverse?

I wonder how long the top of the car is with the spoiler? - I suspect as or very near to the length of my estate GL2.

ah ok then, i also lived in Barlby, i get around a bit lol

Reversing hasn't been a problem, although it is good at keeping out sun and stupidly aimed headlights from behind.

I bet it is similar too. I'm not sure what the idea of the spoiler is, it surely can't give a massive difference? If you want i'll measure it to kill your curiosity? :D

 both reasonable places.

Thanks

Feel a bit like being in school, the roof on my Estate is 80in long

Lol, that was odd going out to measure my car roof. Hope neighbours didn't see :wonder:

It's around 78in, give or take a inch for not wanting to touch the paint. So not that far away really.

Strange and worrying thing, over the weekend, the MPG seems to have dropped, it was heading towards consistently, but now it seems to be sitting around 64-65, which is concerning and I cant see a reason why, it's lighter, due to less diesel in it, tyre pressures ok, i'm not really pushing it anymore. I know it's only on 500 miles now, but it's just strange that its dropped.

Looking good mate.

Btw, the reg is still visible in the last picture.

Very very nice that mate and brilliant MPG!

Thanks, you would not think the estate would have a better drag profile than a hatch to the point they add a spoiler on top to make the two cars roofs almost identical.

The answer could be you have changed when you change gear, driving more conservatively, it seems you need to keep the revs up around 1800 to 2000 rpm

It does seem strange, as you say I'd of expected the hatch to be abit more aerodynamic. I'm no specialist though, wonder how much a wind tunnel is to rent for the day :p

I'll try that with the revs today, my 40mile commute to work this morning only returned 62mpg average and that's 30 miles of motorway at 60-70mph. Just abit worrying. Espically since same journey last week was nearly 70.

Very very nice that mate and brilliant MPG!

Thanks, I think it looks nice too for a 'ecobox'

600 miles done, first tank used up, it took around 40litres when I filled it up (a few clicks after the first click)

Worked it out at roughly around 68mpg, which I dont think's bad. On a positive note, that's that the computers saying too, for average since starting driving the car. Seems pretty accurate for once.

Hopefully it will start increasing now, as 68 is still well below even 'urban' figures.

Starting to give it a bit more revs etc, see how it goes till next tank full. :)

Glad to hear you are pleased  , the urban figure is 68.3.

I have noticed my mpg has dropped all of a sudden and am wondering about the diesel and I must check the tyre pressures.

Lots of people on hear say keep the revs up for good mpg, I usually run fully loaded on long runs (the car is the only family car) and in 4th at 57 the car reads 76 mpg at 65 in 5th the car reads 72 mpg. I to have found on long runs my car's readout to be very similar to fill to fill - 0.9 mpg difference.

I will try keep my revs higher, now i've done the first 600 miles i'm going to be giving it alittle more revs etc, hope i'm not dissapointed with the lack of poke, while I realise it's not a quick car!

I'll admit I have only checked the tyres twice since I bought it, both the times I guess they were still warm.

I also thought Diesel might make a difference, i've put BP in, as i'm not sure what the dealers would have used? (Cheapest they could get hold off?)

Lastly, it's strange that our trips seem nearly accurate, wereas others cars seem to be optimistic.

I seem to get peak economy between 1500 and 2000 rpm.

If I change up to the higher gears as early as the indicator on the car tells me I drop down to about 1200rpm and the engine starts to labour as the instant economy nosedives.

So I hold the gear a little longer, obviously except when going downhill.

I averaged 68mpg and 70 mpg on my first few tanks, now I'm over 5000 miles it's up to 74mpg and hopefully rising.

Ah right, seems about on par with mine so far then.

I'm definatly going to try going abit higher on RPM, as you say, it labours when I change when the indicator says so.

I will report back in hopefully over 600 miles. :D

I have the 1.4 tdi 3 cylinder 08 and the new 1.6crtdi 105 and with the first car 3 cylinder I've done several measures brim to brim and devided quantity and mileage and I get between 75-80 mpg only coming out of fourth when car is doing 50 mph and leaving it in 4 th, also changed K&N panel filter plus redex every other fill

75 is good.

350 Miles into my second tank, the indicators showing just over half a tank left.

Averaging around 70mpg.

Highest been a constant 80mpg+ on 30miles of motorway driving.

Now it's run it abit, i've been finding a few of my own rules that the car likes, (As others have mentioned too)

Never let the engine labour, at all, mpg drops like a brick.

Doesnt Really like hills

Doesnt like been cold.

Also, if you accelerate slightly harder and get to the cruising speed, I seem to be getting better/smoother MPG.

Anyone got a torque curve graph? Want to know when the perfect point to change up is at.

Oh on 1,000 miles now.

Yes them Very Really Slow cars can eat my dust as they stay parked in the car park as I accelerate up to 60 eventually. :giggle:

I find it funny that for an eco car to work properly and give good MPG you have to give it welly to get to cruising speed.

I have to admit I got mine up to three figures once and cruised along - you guessed it 29.9 MPH.

Could not resist the 5p a litre off and my GL2 is running on it's second tank of supermarket fuel, have not noticed anything different yet.

The greenline would do great on a dyno, could stay on the rolling road nearly all day cruising at 52mph.

Yeh, I agree  Strangely enough, in the prius handbook, (sad I know this) it says something along the lines of make progress to get to the crusing speed asap. So to translate, floor it and then cruise. B)

1,500 miles done now, averaging 72mpg now, let's say some spirited driving now. It's fun to drive, sticks in corners, (as quick round tight bends as my friends Clio 200 cup. )

Going down to norfolk for a weeek, so gonna fill it up and see what I can get on a good run.

Right, back from my trip to norfolk + abit of driving either side.

The car's done 2250 miles now and is starting to become a real joy to drive.

Just filled up this morning after filling up before my trip, I did 762 miles before filling up and when I filled upto the brim it only took 41 litres, giving, with poor maths a average of around 82mpg, which is very satisfying and the best so far.

Best so far, really happy with it.

Sounds like the engine is wearing in. Impressive mpg for only 2k on the clock.
