Audi coilpack recall, turned into official Skoda Recall.

Featured Replies

I went to Quarry Wood in Aylesford, Kent to get mine done. I phoned up and they confirmed there is a recall for the octavia, I booked it in (for a week day), dropped it off, and they replaced the coils the same day. It took just under an hour in total, and probably half of that time was them washing the car. Incidentally, my car came back dirtier than I gave it to them, so I wouldnt recommend letting them wash your car if youre a bit ocd about these things. In summary, maybe phone a different skoda dealer in kent.

I checked my coils before I took it there, to make sure I had a type that would be replaced, and so I could see if they actually replaced them or not. They did all 4 since mine were L type I think.

yes if you see my thread it effects M2 too , I was the 1st to highlight this as mine went the day after the recall, which was lucky

Mitchels in chester wanted me to go over so they could check what was in it , despite me telling them , then book it in for the replacement , bugger that game , its in warrington skoda on thursday.

The dealer I spoke to here in Switzerland only asked me for the chassis number and confirmed they need replacing. So he didn't actually need to see the car. Wonder why it's different in the UK...

Im starting to wonder if they flashed my ecu when they replaced the coils now...car doesnt seem to have the grunt I expect it to, Ill stick a boost gauge on it at some point and have a goosey.

Ah someone else with revision N's. Didn't seem to be anyone else with those.

I must book mine in, but Skoda dealer is miles away. :( Ok if it is a while you wait service. Or I could get a Fabia vRS on test drive B)

I've been trying to find out more info on this, and why they are being changed.

Doesn't look like it's a "recall" in the official sense, as there's nothing on the VOSA website about this.

You can find all recalls here: http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/default.asp'>http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/default.asp

VW state:

"What is a Recall Safety Campaign / Workshop Action?

A Recall is announced because a manufacturer has concerns about any potential 'safety related' defect, due to a feature of design or construction that could pose a risk to the driver, occupants or other road users.

Workshop Campaigns are not safety-related. As technology improves, there may be instances where a manufacturer has developed new components or improvements that will help to enhance the overall performance of your vehicle. The enhancements are applied to your car when you take it to a Volkswagen retailer, normally during routine servicing and repairs. We will not usually write to customers advising them of workshop actions.

If you have any concerns regarding Safety Recalls on your vehicle, please do not hesitate to contact your local Volkswagen Retailer.

How will I know if my vehicle is affected by a Safety Recall?

Volkswagen will issue a letter to the registered owner after requesting owner names and addresses from the DVLA requesting that repair work required is completed at your earliest convenience. Please do not worry, contact your local Volkswagen Retailer to book an appointment and they will carry the work out for you free of charge.

Volkswagen follow the SMMT code of practice for issuing re-calls and we will always work closely with the Vehicle and Operators Service Agency (VOSA) http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/ who are the government agency working for the Department of Transport, responsible for improving the roadworthiness standards of vehicles in the UK.

If you have any concerns regarding Safety Recalls on your vehicle, please do not hesitate to contact your local Volkswagen Retailer."

So it looks like it's a "Workshop Campaign" to give us all more reliable coil packs. It's a shame there's no more info, but it makes Skoda look like very responsible manufacturers.

Yes it is a workshop campaign as mentioned somewhere in this thread. It is Recall Bulletin No 28 F7.

If it was VOSA they would contact you directly, but if we did not know, or people are having cars serviced outside of dealer network , we would be oblivious

Mitchells told me its to rationalise the parts situation , apparently there are 17 different specs , sounds a bit weird to me tho, bit of an expensive exercise.

Went to the dealer yesterday, only got one changed: they said 2 were already the newest generation and 1 was not an original. Checked them today, one is indeed not original (says BREMI on it, whatever make that is) and two seem to be the R revision, although there also seems to be something like a date on them, one has 12/08 and one 10/07, is the R revision that old?

Anyway, I replaced the "not original" one with a new BERU I had for a spare. Can't say I notice any difference performance-or-otherwise.

Side note: while in the garage, I had the opportunity to admire a new Ibiza R210, very nice little car. I also looked under the bonnet, lots of "ABT" logos there, seems it comes pre-tuned by them

I got a questionnaire from Skoda UK in the post this morning. Its asking for my customer feed back on my visit to the dealer to get my coilpacks replaced. TBH its the first time Iv'e been near a dealershp for years, and if it wasn't a freebie I doubt I would have been there.

Mine are getting replaced tomorrrow at 10.30am. Nice to get something free from the dealer for a change.
