i'm booked in on tues and my local dealer reckons it will take an hour and a half :S if they just give me the coils i could do it in under 15 mins i'm sure

Interesting week so far. Engine management light came on on the way to work so booked in for a diagnostic with Chequered Flag Skoda (£30 - tenner cheaper than the local diagnostic guy!) Then read this post and contacted them regarding the coilpacks. They are now replacing them when she goes in for the check.... result :)

get them to change the coils, then clear the codes, if they dont return it was the coil packs that threw up the light( it was for me), then you do not have to pay anything

You guys must have caused a global shortage of new coils, mine was checked last friday,(Chathams Edinburgh),new coils required and ordered, still hav'nt heard back from them?

Call & badger them!

Getting mine done next tuesday at Skoda dealers in Darlington no problems at all

I am still waiting :(

I am still waiting :(

For the dealer to call you or get the coils in?

Just call em.

I had a coil blow last night :( Losing power on the M62 never fun... Luckily, a helpful AA man had a spare in his van.

How do you know what rev the coils are and whether they need replacing?

Oh I've called them, yesterday asked for an update, said they would call back as the coils should have been here by now, even allowing for the bank holiday. Never called back...phoned them today, and all I got was Yes they have my number and Will phone when the parts come in.

Got mine booked in at Rainworth skoda next thursday.

They've got some in stock so it should be done while I wait

If you unplug the coilpack plug you will see a part number of the top of the coil pack(where the plug you pulled off goes)

The Part number will be something like this - 06A 905 115 L

The last bit of the part number is the revision "L"

this is the part that the dealer will check. If it is not "D" or "R" then the likelyhood is you can get it replaced.

Finally some joy, rang another dealer with the ref number, mine need doing, booked for a couple of weeks time

Anyone know why they're being replaced yet then? As mine have always performed fault free.

I had mine booked in on Wednesday, but was off sick so couldn't make it in. I asked the guy what part numbers were effected so I could just check it myself, and why were they being replaced, but he knew nothing!

If I do go back in I'm going to check the coil p/n's myself in front of them, and then change them myself in front of them. I'm not keen on letting their "mechanics" touch anything! I'm definately skipping the free health check, as last time they left the dip stick hanging out, and put some sales spuff in my boot.

Bodge, are you going to the hudds one?

They did mine OK, apart from they obviously couldn't work out how the engine cover clips worked, as two weren't fastened down. :giggle:

I realised yesterday exactly why I don't use main dealers.....Arrive at 3:30, as my car was booked in for......3:30(strange that!) and was greeted with "are you sure its booked in, it seems quite late?" - No I just wanted to waste my time!

15 minutes later one of the mechanics took my car round to the service garages to fit new coil packs. 10 minutes later he drove my car back round telling me that they'd already been replaced!

He obvioulsy thought I was a mug and hadn't checked - I replied with "isn't it R, and D's that don't need replacing?" Yes he said, and thats what yours all are. I let him know that it was very strange because when I checked before I brought my car to the garage I had an R,D, and two L's (which do need replacing) His response was "Oh sorry, I didn't realise - I'll order you a couple"

Absolute idiots - When they order the coilpacks in I'm going to stress that I want to collect and fit them myself as their mechanics clearly don't know what they're are doing.

MAKE SURE YOU CHECK WHAT YOU HAVE BEFORE YOU GO - AND CHECK WHAT YOU HAVE WHEN YOU GET HOME!

had mine done earlier in the week, only had a quick look since but you can tell that they are all new, mine looked old, incidently my car is suffering with rough running on cold start up now that they've changed the coil packs, but i'm not sure if it's the SAI as it only does it for first minute or two( it hesitates on acceleration) strange that it's only started since the new packs were fitted

Hi

Had mine done yesterday at Palmers, Hemel Hempstead. Brilliant service, in and out in half an hour with 4 new coil packs. Cant say fairer than that! The car actually holds the boost better now too, it had one original left so it was probably getting weak. They were not bothered at all that it was modded either, thought the Carbonio etc might of caused grief. Result.

Just checked my coils, and theyre all L's, so hopefully be coming back with a new set in a couple of days. I wonder if theyll let me keep the old ones as spares...

Nope, a few of us, myself included, have tried that one. :D Worth asking though, you never know...

I even tried telling them I was making an experimental pulse jet engine, and I need something to create a spark for the ignition.... They still said no though.

Took my motor to the dealers yesterday and after waiting an hour was told they didnt need replacing.

I think I should probably check myself.

Sorry no chance.

I had mine checked on bank holiday weekend, by Griffin Mill in Ponty, needed all 4 changing and they were the originals since new, and my Vrs is a Y plate with 136k on the clock, they ordered the new coil packs and rebooked me for the following weekend, then on the way to work on tuesday a sudden missfire and eml on and one of the coils fails.

all 4 coil packs were replaced this saturday just gone and fault codes cleared (missfire with O2 sensor fault) and back to a nice smooth drive with no missfire

Mine done today. 30 mins, checked and replaced. Dealer ordered coilpacks in advance as they said they can just return them if they're not needed. Can't fault them at all. Seems to drive better, but isn't that always the case when you know you have something new on the car. :smirk:

got mine changed today cant say I noticed any difference but there definatly new coilpacks
