As some of you know, at the weekend I put my freshly-refurbished Evolo alloys back on and dropped the coilovers down, after being in 'Winter Mode' for 4 months (14'' Elegance alloys, coilovers jacked up for snow clearance...). Great, thought I, it looks amazing now B)

And so it does, but I'm so annoyed at something that happened last night :( I was driving to my gran's house in Glasgow, on a typical 30mph residential street. An oncoming car swerved to avoid a pothole, which is fair enough as the roads are :swear: disgraceful, but she swerved right over towards me, far enough to make me take evasive action. Lovely shiny rear o/s alloy then catches the merest glance on the horrible stone kerb :@

The result? A series of small chips, not quite full-on kerb rash, going around about a quarter of the edge of the rim :'( I can probably touch it in enough to be barely noticeable, even close-up, but it's the principle that annoys me. The wheels have done less than 200 miles since the refurb! They were done in OEM VW alloy silver, so does anybody know where i can get a touch-up size amount of that paint?

So annoyed... There was me thinking that although the roads are screwed, I don't do many miles and it'd be ok if I just take care. Apparently not. I forgot about just how many potholes they are, how big and deep and sharp they are, the way other drivers react when they see them instead of looking ahead and planning their manoeuvres accordingly (if I were her, I would have slowed down until the other traffic passed instead of veering into my lane), and the sheer pointlessness of having a nice car that I can be proud of when all that's going to happen is damage from the roads, damage from other motorists and vandals (not in my case, yet, but you see it all the time), the anger on the roads, and the expense of making the repairs and then filling up with fuel, because oh yes, the government truly hates us car drivers.

A rant that is verging on off-topic and which will achieve nothing, I know, but I am frustrated... And I know it means sweet F.A in the grand scheme of things and it's just a car, just a lump of metal and plastic and rubber and wires and paint, and there are much bigger things to deal with (I know this very well through unfortunate family circumstances at the moment), but the car is a hobby and an outlet of mine.

I'm off to Skoda now to pick up some foglight connectors...I hope to have cheered up when I get back.

Love,

Andrew (Angry Man) :bearhug:

The roads in this country are a flipping joke. Pothole heaven...

As annoying as it is, it sounds like you've got away with minimal damage so try thinking that you've been lucky and could have trashed the whole wheel if luck wasn't with you.

Cheapest place for VW silver paint touch up pen will be a VW dealer. I've always found that dealers are always cheaper than Halfords and eBay.

Silver lining; you didn't hit her and ruin the whole car.

I feel your pain though.

Did you get the Reg?

Report him for dangrous driving :smirk:

As mentioned the dealer should be cheapest, gutted for you though!

Lets see some pictures though with the wheels on!

Real shame when this happens to someone who looks after their car. Lucky here in West Lothian, the council are on the ball when it comes to road repairs. As for Edinburgh though, looks like the surface of the moon.

Sorry to hear that Andrew.

Edinburgh is just a nightmare at the moment, driving like a drunk to avoid potholes !

Even the city bypass is getting bad for surface damage at the moment :(

I know how you feel. I managed to go around a bend (15 mph) and hit the biggest pothole in life - Destroying my Diamond Cut Charleston alloy and tyre.... Stupid pot hole :(

Have you looked at 'alloy gators'... may be worth while if you have cherished alloys.

Thanks for the replies folks...I know it could have been so much worse and isn't the end of the world, but I had to get that off my chest.

And it's true, the roads are borderline third-world by now surely

Thanks for the tip, but I don't like them, sorry! :D

Here you go! I saw the message you left on my profile thing just before I went out. These were taken about half an hour ago, so excuse the dirt...she is my daily wagon to be fair :)

And the offending wheel...

Very tidy car that  Love the colour. Quite lucky really as the wheel damage is minimal (probably due to your exceptional driving skills) Most of that damage might polish out with chrome cleaner or T-Cut.

Thanks, glad you like it :)

Unfortunately it's definitely chips through the paint, no amount of polishing will sort it...definitely a paint in and flat back job. Ach well, gives me something to do...

:( feel for u as I had something similar happened to my then smooth octy wheels. Some chav thought they would try to take a mini roundabout like a pro, he was turning left and he didn't realise there was a giant sunken tarmac just on the exit, obviously the car bounced and swerved onto the oncoming side which is where I was. Ended up kerbing the rear right slightly to avoid him :(

Looking good! Possibly a bit low on the front for my taste though. One thing I've noticed is that the hubs you have make the wheel sit quite far in the arch, mine seem to sick out more than that. Your getting 312's soon though aren't you? :)

Lovely looking car overall though, the vRS bumpers look great, top job

Cheers! Yeah I was toying with the fitting spacers, but I'll wait until the 312's go on over Easter and see what the stance (and money) situation is saying then... :D

I know your pain mate! Mine gets attacked by cats on a regular basis.

They wait till im home and the bonnet is nice and warm then use my car as a climbing frame.

Nice blue vrs se with added cat scratches :dull:

And the thing is no matter how carefull you are with your car there is alawys someone or some thing that see's it as just another car.

Hope you get your wheels sorted dude B)

Car looks great! Really nice colour. Is it an Elegance TDI?

Marc

This is kind of stance you will get with my old wheels and 15mm spacers. Not needed for 312s, but definitely for Brembos.

Ah that sucks...thankfully our cat at home is getting to old and lazy to be bothered with that kind of thing!

Thanks

Thank you very much! :) It sure is.

That's nothing! Time to take a picture of my alloy :smirk:

Sorry dev dude...... bet thats sick on the track but it looks gank without poke..... practical over style! such a hard choice!

Dont mean to take the **** just i personally dont like it, but i bet other ppl love it.

I might drop it a bit, but like you said, its raised up because of serious arch rubbing, plus I don't really want to get my side exit exhaust any closer to the ground. It's already a pain in the backside on speed bumps.... It looks a little different now anyway on new suspension. The above pic was taken about 2 years ago and now Leodhasach is running on the same wheels. :D

I have to say, why didn't skoda make the vRS in that colour!!!! Stunning mate, the wheel can be touched up, but I know what you mean.

And not just the same kind, but the very set that belonged to the Mongrel...my wheels have history! :D

Tell me about it, I'd have one otherwise! Although I like the fact mine is fairly unique :)

Thanks very much, appreciate it
