Info: Octy II 4x4 Estate

Featured Replies

I am giving thought to the estate.Think it is one of the nicer looking estates on the market.

With regards to the point about the size of the alloys and the ride I would sacrifice a bit of comfort for the larger wheel.A filled wheelarch(without being boy racerish)IMHO looks great. It's part of why I love the Audi RS and in fact most of their estates.

Anyway, driving a vRS has given me a bum of steel so it would be like a limo to me ;)

looks really nice, hubby looking to replace his tdi estate (non skoda), he likes the octy vrs but favours diesels so was most disappointed.

not looked into octavias, maybe i will start another thread to ask opinions

Mmm.. I like the idea of the diesel 4X4, anyone want to hazard a guess at 0-60 times and combined mpg for the diesel ? This might be the perfect replacement for my 4 year old Fabia.

The non 4X4 Diesel hatch (105) is 0-60 in 11.8 and mpg is 53.3 combined.

So about 13.5 seconds to 60 and 45mpg combined sound about right ?

I'm still thinking about this, how easy is it to 'mildly' tune the 105 pd unit ? (e.g. to 130 or so).

RBW

I would reckon about a second more for the 0-60 and 10% less for the combined.

Mild (remap) tuning should be easy I would have thought. A fair comparison I can make is with the 110bhp TDi Quattro Audi A4 that I chipped to 136bhp a few years ago. 0-60 came down from about 11.5 to 10 and mpg stayed the same at just under 40mpg in my 'mixed' driving. 45+ on a run.

Our 110 bhp Octy went to 164 @Jabba

... I wasn't going to scare the guy as he was thinking about a 'mild tuning' :)

I'd have no hesitation in recommending or going back to Jabba again :)

What did the torque go to (I think VAG figure is 173 lb/ft) and was there much change in mpg? I'm interested because I'm think of having our A6 done.

The 105 engine isn't as tuneable and from what I've heard will see 135-140bhp and around 240ftlb when remapped.

Torque went to 393N/m, dont know what that is in lb/ft. The MPG average improved by about 4 mpg. OBVIOUSLY if you thrash the nuts off it it can be worse but you have to really try to get sub 40 mpg. Top whack is about 135 on the clock. Its all a bit :D:D

Thanks Stuart, I think lb/ft = N/m x .75 approx.

I wouldn't say that.

Our Warsaw tuner get one, and it has 118bhp at the start. After small tuning he easily get 153 bhp :D

I'm driving one, but she's too young (450 ;) to try anything ;)

Maybe the RR is overreading by 13bhp? That'd make the figures spot on.

It's still only a 35bhp increase which is what I suggested would be acheivable.

Allards have a Golf which was 90 bhp as std & is now knocking out well over 200 without any internal mods, I have no idea what it cost though !!

I'm just talking remap only. I know alot more could be gained by uprating the turbo, injectors and IC.

If Jabba can regularly get around the 145bhp mark from the 100PD in the Fabia, wouldn't the 105 be at least that ? On the basis that most VAG engines are running 5-10% tolerances on power outputs, I would have thought that a true 150bhp from the 105 (or 115) was very realistic ?

Rob

Practical question.

Having spent an hour this morning waiting for my car,I was comparing the benefits of the hatch and the estate.I have confessed my desire for an estate on another thread but the boot space seemed just as big in the hatch?

The load sill height didn't seem much higher and the dealer reckons that you should not be filling an estate past parcel shelf height in any event. Also I can still fold the seats down in my current hatch and it's cavernous.

So what are the real and useful benefits you do get on the new estate as opposed to the new hatch

Stock cars make stock power on accurate rolling roads in my experience.

Remember the new diesel engines in the VAG range have been designed for emissions rather than power. The same applies to the new 2.0T Petrol which is seeing smaller gains than the old 1.8T when remapped.

the estate is slightly better proportioned IMHO.

Only thing i can seriously think of is you won't get rainwater pouring into the boot on the estate..... can't believe Skoda didn't fix this serious issue on the hatchbacks

Practically none. Unless you are moving refrigerators on a regular basis.

Oh, and there's the rain water not pouring into the boot, I agree.

Other than that it's just a question of taste - you pay more for the estate but that will generally hold its value better than the hatch.

I considered going for the new estate when I ordered my new car, but given the recommendation of not loading above the pacel shelf line, you get no extra boot space. Only alternative would be to buy a rear gate to stop stuff entering the passenger area in the event of a collision. Damn ugly things.

  • 3 weeks later...

Seen this morning in WJH Motors in Bedford - one New Octavia 4X4 2.0FSi Estate which they sold last Saturday. Note the 15" wheels and generous room under the wheel arches.
