The Yetis at the Geneva motor show

Featured Replies

I'm still in Geneva and will update photos once I'm back home in London. Suffice to say there were two Yetis, both with black roofs, one with a new alloy wheel design, and a folding front passenger seat. Neither had electric folding mirrors though nor new Skoda logos.

Johann - Can you ask them on the stand about the Yeti combi? It was strongly suggested that it would be mentioned/shown at Geneva. Is the whole idea of a longer Yeti false or was it just not ready for this show.

If I ask my dealer they will have no idea, even if they did they would deny it until the official announcement.

What does the Seat IBX look like in reality? I assume it is based on the same technology as the Yeti although the shape is less angular, fitting in with the Seat approach?

Look forward to seeing your pics. Were any of the display Yeti's in the two new colours?

Hi Mate,

Are there any external differences and have they changed the DRL in any way i.e LED?

OK I'm back on our fair isle. To answer the above:

  • I did not ask about the Combi
  • None of the Yetis were in the new colours
  • DRLs looked the same as before

Some pictures can be found in this album by clicking here. In there you will see the, two tone roof, the new alloy wheel, the folding front passenger seat and its lever on the side, the rear tables in the Family model and its supports, the huge video screen in the back on which the Yeti featured driving around Cape Town - driven by some all male yoofs scateboarding and being too cool for their own good and an awful brown Yeti jacket that had no price (the short sleave Golf shirts were about £50 so I did not dare ask...)

And here is a view of the whole Škoda stand:

Excellent pics and lots of good info. I'm really not sure about that black roof although the seat back tables and folding flat front passenger seat look like

they will add even more practicality.

Thanks Johann! Very, very interesting.

Also note the two drawers in below the back airvents in the Jumbo Box. Mine has one big opening compartment there. The Yetis at the show at two smaller ones. Do newer Yetis now get the double ones?

Thanks for sharing your photos Johann. The new alloys looks great.

Hi Johann,

thanks for the excellent images  regard the draw then there always has been a number of options such as a drinks holder but as per normal the UK don't get an option on what we get. Therefore I cannot say for sure if the two draw is new.

Regards,

TP

My August 2010 (purchase date not build date) has these, the top one is an ash tray the lower one is a drinks holder.

Thanks mate. Some very good pic's there!

Excellent pics matey, thanks for that.

So they put picnic tables on the back of the seats and called it a family edition.

I wonder what pathetic oik in the marketing department thought that one up!

I do like that folding forward front seat though, very useful.

And the black roof isn't too bad, although you cant really see the roof of course because of the side rails.

Mines mostly black anyway with the sunroof.

I would find the folding front seat useful as a place to put my printer or laptop when working from the car.

Sorry, but where else were they supposed to put them? That has always been the place where tables have been fitted on seats, there isn't anywhere else!

just like aircraft....

Not according to Honda

Not according to Honda

I had one of those years ago when I was living in Germany, it was a brilliant bit of kit, I also bought the shower (I kid you not) as an official accessory, was great for camping :)

Another useful feature that Skoda could think about for the likes of the Yeti is the folding trolley you get with Citroen Picasso's, another very simple but great idea. The mrs used to use hers for all the plastic recycling and we would use it when away with the kids for lugging beach stuff around.

Not in mine; only has two seats

I read an interview given by a top bod from Skoda at the show. He talked about Skoda customers "not wanting" extras that add cost, (I am not sure how accurate he is with that assumption). It comes back to where do Skoda fit in the VW empire and have they stepped onto big brothers territory a little too much. The suspicion is that they will take away some of the nice touches and move Skoda back to more budget territory. I had that folding trolley in my Picasso and it was quite useful but if they are looking to trim frivolous items then that is not going to reach the drawing board.

You missed the point!

Putting fold down picnic tables in doesn't justify calling it a 'family' edition.

Its just an improvement along with the folding front seat.

So what would you have called it?

It's a name for a model, nothing more, that's all!

And actually if I had children I would think it was a very good idea.

I would just say it was the 2011 model with the following changes.

It's a cynical marketing ploy to stamp 'family' all over it.

They could have equally called it the 'picnic' edition.

But hey, if it works for you then fine it's not worth hijacking a thread over.

Cheers, Fuzzy

I think some people miss understand what a picnic table is in the automotive industry. We have them on our cars and they are aimed for a different cliental than a family.
