Keep getting Flashed................Fogs On

Featured Replies

Every time I take the Wife's New Fabia Vrs out for a spin I get flashed, thinking I've got Fogs on. Why did Silly Skoda put the DRL's there. Even when you have headlights on the DRL dim but are a much whiter light and again you get flashed for having fogs on.

They should have been a Strip light like on the Octavia emoticon-0144-nod.gif

I agree! Cheaper alternative for them. Noticed that tyre pressure monitor is now a £100 option on the Octavia VRS too

I never understand why it is illegal to drive with fogs on. If set correctly fogs should flood the road with a low down beam which searches out the road kerbside. I don't have fogs on the '2' level Fabia I drive but I often see people drive with fogs on and have yet to be dazzled or even concerned. I have had far more problems with people not having correctly set headlights. What is wrong with using fogs during day light hours as 'driving' lights? My view is that driving with fogs on should be encouraged and only those with incorrectly aligned lights should be stopped. But then, what do I know?

Daytime I have less of a problem, DRL's mounted lower down means more chance of bikes being seen also, as driver's should be able to differentiate between them more easily. Night time is a different story however, no need unless you literally can't see where you are going in thick fog with the dipped beams on.

I have to agree though, I have more issues with badly adjusted lights. How many people if giving someone a lift in the back of the car, actually spin the thumb wheel inside to adjust the lights? I have also passed countless police cars this week with poorly adjusted lights, purely because of all the gear they are carrying in the boot.

Its the rear fogs that are the issue not the front as they are higher up if they are used in rain for example you get glare where the bright light reflects off of the rain on the windscreen. the was a Public information film on it years ago with Peter Pervis presenting !

Because they use a 55w bulb and are so low down when used with a wet/damp road surface they produce glare from the tarmac

DRL's in the fog light position are generally much lower wattage (21w for conventional bulbs)

I actually like it when people drive round in good visibility with their fog lights on as it removes any doubt as the whether or not that are a tw@, so I give them a wide berth!

(I was taught to assume that every road user was one - then you are not surprised when they drive like an arse)

Your post confirms then, I mean "glare from the tarmac" ? It's more about road rage than anything else. Some guy in a nice Beemer with his fog lights on and the red mist descends. I had an accident at 10 years old and lost the sight of my right eye. I am now drawing my pension and have driven more years than I can remember and I do find night driving more difficult these days with glare, however I can honestly say I have never found front fogs a problem day or night. The previous post about rear fogs though is spot on. They are a real problem in rain. B)

I used to live in Holland in the early 80s. High mounted brake lights in the rear window were illegal and those in foreign spec cars had to be disconnected. I had a RHD Golf GTI and the single rear fog was on the wrong side, so I poked out the blank in the socket on the other side and added another.

Health and Safety issues don't seem to be absolutes to me. There is a certain amount of fashion involved - the "H&S gone mad" syndrome.

This discussion has already been extensively covered in a thread I started a little while ago -see 'DRL-rage'. I was wondering at the time if anybody had experienced this -however I can now say having taken delivery of the vRS I have not had a single person flashing me whatsoever..... :wonder:

its happened to me, but very rarely in 3000 miles, in the day never, its obvious they are DRL's, only at night with headlights on, when they dim, and do look a bit like fogs...

don't see the issue though, its other peoples ignorance, I ignore it, it doesn't affect me.

Yep , in 500 miles I have only had one case of being flashed at ( talking about DRL's of cause :giggle: )

Perhaps drivers are getting more used to seeing them on cars.

I'l be honest it's a clever move on Skoda's behalf to use the foglight cluster for the DRL's as its meant they havent had to go to town redesigning the front end of the car and is obviously a build cost saving for them.

However as a practical application its a bit daft and I can see why people not in the know would get a bit annoyed seeing someone driving round at night, cant see why it would be an issue during the day though.

Would probably have been better if Skoda had set them up to disable with the sidelights/headlights on (the sidelight then being utilised in the main lamp unit) with them being able to be used as fogs when in these positions. Simple and I dont know why they didnt think of it!

This is exactly the way they work on the (newer) Superb's, so it has been thought about, just not implemented across the range.

I do find the DRL's to be annoyingly bright, not only Fabias but other makes as well Citroen, Audi etc.

I like them..They are safer because they are on all the time..The brighter the better!!

Joe public has no interest in safety..They cant even put their headlights on in fog..a legal requirement

I have been flashed a few times...I laugh at them! :giggle:

when i turn my sidelghts/headlights on DRL,s turn off. 1.2TSI se with option front fogs

Yup, same here. I've posted before on here about a local guy who goes mad when he sees me in the Furby and the DRLs on - pointing and waving his arms. Thing is I think he has just got a new Ford Focus with guess what - DRLs! I'm gonna have myself some fun when I see him next time ;-)

Turn them off then?

Give em the finger :moon: :finger::giggle:

Goes to show how positively childish you are then!

Someone coming from the opposite direction either A, thinks you have accidentally left your foglights on, hence driving illegally and draining your battery or B, you are blatently causing them optic discomfort and you have the afront to laugh? C'mon! Drivers like you should catch the friggin' bus! :giggle:

As for dazzling... Any light, dipped, full or "DRL" (posey ****s) will cause discomfort to other drivers at some time... Living in London (I know, I know) The roads are a non stop smattering of so-called "traffic calming" speed bumps. Quite how having to drive at 6mph or risk permanant whiplash, and constantly being blinded by oncoming vehicles who appear to be flashing a set of million candlewatt bulbs straight into your optic nerve has to do with "Calming", I will never know!

I never thought chav lights would become mandatory lol

DRL's are not a problem its the friggin land cruisers and the big 4x4 with bi-xenon,they bloody blind on coming traffic and if they are behind you they burn your retinas through the rear view mirrors, wish I had bi-xenon :giggle:
