i think il settle with the new bulbs and see how i get on.

Chris, If you do fit the Xenon kit keep me informed pls. I have the curve projection lights on mine so i don't know if there will be any issues.

Just on the rear light mine has one. I specced car with sunroof and electric rear windows so presume it came with one of them.

i was going to go down the route of some better bulbs.

How much hassle will it be retro-fitting a Xenon kit?

Not at all. You just need to find a good spot for the ballasts inside the engine bay and the rest is very simple.

Am I right in thinking that if you retro-fit a Xenon kit it needs to have self-levelling and headlight washer jets to be legal.....? :wonder:

I highly doubt it for both - you can retrofit any xenon kit as long as the headlights have a projector so the beam is focused.

I've seen so many people retrofitting xenons in non projector headlights and the light just kills your eyes.

This is correct and current legislation in the UK.

The car does indeed need to self level the lights and wash them too.

The Fabia does not have an option for self-levelling lights, so any retro-fitted HID kits without this feature would be illegal, fail MOT, etc.

must be then.

Someone has suggested here that a rear light is standard on all the estates, is that true?

Yep, thought as much. Makes it too much of a ball-ache to bother retro-fitting if you ask me! :giggle:

Yeah my thoughts exactly.

I just stuck some Phillips XtremePowers in and left it at that!

Fuel economy is nowhere near the quoted figures (i dont drive slow though, and like for like its around 3mpg better compared to the octy vRS on an identical journey. (the octy had an additional 100hp and 230kg) Luckily im not bothered lol

The gear box is phenomenal when changing up whether in manual or auto. But down shiftng in Auto is rubbish when braking and needs over riding with the paddles/tiptronic.

No rear interior light, no lights in the sun visors.

the chrome grill (being changed for the monte carlo one B)

Things like car mats, storage boxes and sun glasses pocket being options and not standard.

Torque steer. Ive driven 360hp Leons and golfs, and had a 280Hp octy vRS, all suffered zero torque steer. the fabia with only 180ps has torque steer, highlights the chassis deficiencies

To much body roll

Squirming under braking. Not sure if its brake bias, or the 'brake assist' but if you hit the stop pedal hard shes squirms like a good un. Maybe its because its such a narrow and short chassis, but all my previous cars didnt suffer with it

hate the kick down function on the DSG as well. Drive around it now though, so its not an issue

Rant over

I do actually really like the car, great all rounder, absolute bargain (wouldnt have bought it had it not been tax free though, in all honesty it was an impulse buy after driving and seeing the savings)

Engine has really good pickup and response. and it looks really good for a little golf cart, but it is flawed temporarily until i get amongst it with some mods

For anyone worrying about economy forget it for the best part of 5k miles.

Short city size cars almost always squirm under sudden heavy breaking

I've never had any real torque steer in the fabia. I'd be suggesting you get it checked out.

Wow things are very strict over there. :|

The demo car i used had it as well

dont get me wrong its not bad torque steer, and it doesnt bother me that much, its no where near like what you get in a mazda 3MPS, or VXR but it does have a little bit of torque steer, which in a car only 180ps is surprising to me. Never noticed it in the cooper s or the clio i drove. like i said the next VAG chassis up in line manages 360hp+ with less torque steer (thats considering they are only 240hp stock, so running 120hp over standard)

I haven't noticed any torque steer, I've accelerated at full throttle from standtill many times and not had to correct the steering at all. dead straight. it does follow inperfections in the road massively, mostly due to the 40 profile tyres... but torque steer? no.

.......Having to wait so long for the b*st*rd thing!

+1 and I'm only a month into my wait...

Take your car to a good garage and have them conduct the new MOT test and enjoy the bill.

Not living in the UK so in my part of the woods it is legal to do it  to be honest though I don't understand why it's not allowed. They should at least allow installation of Xenon lights by qualified and certified shops by the state which will have to abide to certain rules regarding installation, headlight features, pattern and allow people to upgrade their lights as today Xenon is not only for show but a much better solution regarding visibility and safety.

checked my tyre pressures today. Front left 2 bar, front right 2.5 bar, rear left 2.3 bar rear right 2 bar. Well done motorline skoda in canterbury-RETARDS.

Going to give it some abuse tonight to see if the 'torque steer' was caused by this. Would have given the front wheels slightly different rolling radius i guess

I experienced worse on my Golf GTI Mk1 back in 1981 when I lived in Amsterdam. I got a brand new set of BBS alloys and tyres. When I drove off, it kept pulling to one side - and I wondered why the spare would not quite fit in the wheel well. Then I noticed it had been fitted with a mix of 60% and 65% profiles! I would have thought a Dutch guy would have noticed if something was not flat!

Have noticed some torque steer, but not enough to take you across the road.

Biggest niggle, when you wash the front screen, as the wiper blades don't overlap, the waste water goes straight back up the passenger side of the screen.

Could get a longer blade on one side to compensate?

will have a look to see if it is possible when it comes time to replace them, but as the furby has been around now for almost 4 years it is a little niggle i would have thought should have been sorted by now if it can be done.

Having come from a background that includes a 330+bhp front wheel drive hot hatch, I have to confess, I thought the little VRS was excellent in this respect - not that i'd really expect torque steer from a 180ps fwd car unless there was a serious design issue. I pushed my demo VRS very hard and it stayed straight and true, admittedly following the road camber slightly but thats to be expected of any car nowadays running low profile sports rubber and cant be considered as 'torque steer'. I think they'd comfortably put 220bhp down on the tarmac infact.
