Removing double sided tape residue

Featured Replies

Anyone got a quick how to!? :o

The tape I used to hold down my boot spoiler overnight whilst the glue set was double sided, and come the following afternoon, I removed it and it left behind the remnants of the double sided adhesive end... This stuff is tough and me with a blunt fingernail managed to clear about 4 square inches in over 5 minutes, and there's loads of the stuff on there.

Any tool I can use which won't damage the paintwork? Have been thinking that warming with a hairdryer might help?

Washing up liquid, a sponge and a lot of elbow grease should do it. Thats what I used when I got a windscreen replaced and they left marks on the car.

I've used WD-40 to get rid of sticker residue before. It's best then to wash the sections when you're done.

I've had success with white spirit or methylated spirit, but if I really want to be careful, I use isopropyl alcohol. Also, being a petrol-head, I find petrol can shift things quite well, if I go lightly. How's diesel? :)

Tar remover, holts stuff is good.

oooo, Thanks for the all the tips. Tar remover is something I posess in a reasonable quantity so will try that first.... I think nail varnish remover will be tried last as I'm sadly lacking that. ;) I'll buy some if I have to though, or nick some off my mate's SWMBO. :D

Lighter fluid is good also.

Jason I'd steer clear of nail varnish remover, if you want some paint left as well.

White spirit would be my choice.

I use it everytime when I desticker the car after the Cannonball & it works just fine for that, Ive also used it for masking tape debries on another car after some bodywork was done & again had no probs, just put it on a cloth and wipe it over

If it works for Stuart, it must be OK, blame my over cautious nature

Nothing wrong with a bit of caution ;) Although I usually just throw it to the wind. :D

Anything solvent-y should work Jason.

Sticky Stuff remover from Bettaware. Lakeland Plastics do a similar product.

I used some of SWMBO's nail varnish remover to get rid of the traces of a GB sticker, with no damage to the paint. It's also good for getting rid of superglue, BTW!

(Not that I've ever accidentally stuck myself to anything while trying to repair it, ooh no... ;) )

Heat it up with a hairdryer, then it will come off easy with a gentle rub. ;)
