Stone Chipping (bonnet this time)

Featured Replies

How do other Yeti owners rate the bonnet for withstanding stone chips?

When I washed mine at the weekend I had to touch in another 2-3 chips, this is on top of loads of others I done a few months ago.

Maybe it's just the state of the roads these days but I doo feel my Yeti has more than it's fair share given it's age and milegage, certainly more than previous cars.

I don't drive particularly fast nor do I tailgate people esp lorries.

Me too!

The leading edge of the bonnet seems to be particularly susceptible to chips. I'm getting the impression the the paint there is rather brittle (silver metallic in my case).

Having said that, the roads are still a mess - It's now April, and the debris on the roads from winter seems especially noticeable this year.

I have had three stone chips in my windscreen, one windscreen had to be replaced, and my wife has had a similar experience in her car. I think there are more stones on the roads at the moment either from potholes created or potholes repaired. The stones fly around at 70mph and that is bound to do damage. As you car is Storm Blue it will also show the chips much more severely than say my car in Aqua Blue, virtually silver. I can barely see a chip on my bonnet but I am sure there must be some there.

I would put it down to roads rather than paintwork but others may disagree.

Sorry, but it's no worse than any modern car. I was for ever touching-up the bonnet of the Freelander, and my neighbour's Zafira is shocking.

Does anybody else remember how you could buy a cover to put on the bonnet of a VW beetle to protect against stone chips?

Motoring equivalent of a burka.....:o

Better not take to France then :giggle:

But if they were colour coded.......and you couldn't see them, unlike black on white....

I have a chip in the middle of my passenger rear door. Not sure how it got there, but noticed it about a week after our offloading Adventure, but not sure if it is related.
