2.0 tdi service interval

Featured Replies

I have an elegance 2.0 tdi and it's just about to turn 1' I've do e 14'300 miles and now it's flashing service now. I've been to my local dealer who tells me it's not actually diue till 2 years or 20'000 mila. Hover apparently the dealer where I purchased the car sets the service at 14'000 . Does this seem right, what intervals have you seen or had on similar models.

I thought all VAG cars these days were either 10000 miles/1 year, or variable (in which case the car decides when it needs a service, which I believe can be anything up to 2 years or 18000 miles?).

Totally wrong!

It will be either 10k or variable up to 30k or 2years on the diesel. I presume at 14k it will be on variable. I would also take it to a dealer that knows what they are doing and actually put the correct oil in! (507 00).

My A4 is variable up to a maximum of 20K miles. It just did 19K before it's service indicator said it needed new oil. Thank goodness too, as it uses nearly 7 litres of 5W30 oil.

Dam it iPad changed mybtyping again, that was supposedvto say, I took it to the proper skoda dealer

My 2.0 PD140 has always been on variable servicing done by a dealer until it turned 100k, then I started using an independant

(independant, not back street !) The guy is an ex-audi tech and recommended switching to fixed servicing and

more frequent oil changes, maximum of 10k intervals.

He serviced the car using genuine parts and PD oil over longlife.... I have to say I've never noticed such

a big difference in any car after servicing.

His labour and the cost of PD oil over longlife means it makes more sense to change it more often, may even consider

changing it every 5k from now on.....

Just an Oil Change pretty much, and a multipoint check where they tick an A4 sheet of boxes without looking at your car and then tell you your tyres are worn and your brakes need doing :giggle:

Items covered should be in the front of the service record book....

Had mine done at 11000,let the dealer did that one, until he stamped in the book next service 2 yrs or at 30000.I now take it to a garage where i used to have my scoob serviced, and at least change the oil about every 10000 or so just to keep it all clean.Don't believe in letting a car go 2yrs without a service or at minimum a change of oil.

The engines and oils are designed for this now. My mates PD has just been serviced on longlife at 110k miles and still pulls like a train. Was 20k since his last service.

Mine's flashed up at 13,400 miles, and my other VAG car did at a similar mileage. The previous 2 were consistently doing 18,000+ between service signals, and the type of driving hasn't changed (600 mile motorway trips every 2-3 weeks).

I'm hoping that this is a change of programming by VAG on the initial service interval parameters and that the remaining ones are nearer the 18k mark.

Perhaps the fact that the more recent engines are requiring virtually no top-ups means that the oil remains dirtier than when you are topping up with a significant proportion of virgin oil and thereby diluting the contaminants whilst keeping the sensors happy.

So you would all suggest I get it serviced then.

Slightly OT ... I know that variable servicing is variable, but a vRS PD driven like its meant to be - what do people generally get in terms of milage between services? Mine says at the moment that it's due in 2000 miles, which would be 10k...that doesn't seem right...

My first Variable has been done at 14990 mls,I had a £100 reduction after problems with the car, post delivery. Full price service is £ 174 , Change the oil and supposedly check things which the owner would have checked anyhow, filled the screen wash bottle. Seems a,bit steep to me, how much is a Yearly first service ? it seems to be the same service, is it cheaper ? if it is I might have had a yearly as the car is only 9 months old.

There isn't the requirement for long-life oil on a fixed interval vehicle, so the oil cost is cheaper. So cost is usually £120-130. Depends on the part of the country really, and the hourly labour charge.

The oil used is Mobil Vlonglife , the service guy said Quantum 507 synthetic is fine for top ups, got that for £ 30 for 5lts could have had it cheaper if I bought 4 x 5 lts.

My concern with the BKD PD140 in particular is that whilst the engine and the oil are designed for long-life servicing it seems the turbo isn't! I tend to keep cars until about 150-200k and if more regular oil and filter changes save me the cost of a turbo over that time then its been worth it.

Not on cars equipped with a DPF, even on the fixed interval the long life oil is required.

Though not sure if the OP's car is equipped with a dust particulate filter?

Are you sure you are on variable?

I'm on fixed which flags up at 10,000 miles or 12 months whichever I reach first.

To be needing a service at 10K on variable seems strange to me?

Me too, the variable / fixed debate has been done to death on here, though I can see the pro's and con's of both.

For sure, engine technology has progressed but for my low mileage knowing the car has fresh oil once a year gives me peace of mind.

Its peace of mind really at the end of the day after spending your hard earned money buying a car,and at minimum a tub of clean oil is hardly going to break the bank every 10000 miles or so is it..I certainly wouldn't even think going 2 yrs with running the same engine oil, although some on here are happy to do that.

I do mine at around every 10000 to 11000 miles and the ex audi tech won't be the last to say it..
