INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON

Featured Replies

Last night got into my Yeti. Started it up and drove off but the 3 interior lights stayed on. All doors are shut properly. I've not changed the settings on the lights from the normal setting. The lights stay on until the car parked and is locked up with the remote. It doesn't matter if the headlights are on or off. I've had to turn off the interior lights at the switches to stop being blinded. Anyone else had this problem? No Maxidot on this car to change settings.

Hi I've had my Yeti for about 4weeks and this has happened 3 or 4 times. Not sure what starts or stops it and, like you, I resorted to switching the lights off. Switching them back on after a few hours seemed to clear the problem (until the next time).

Sorry I don't have a solution, but at least you're not alone.

My dealer reminded me to be sure that the hatchback was "slammed shut" as the interior lights willl stay on for 10 minutes otherwise. Happened to me tonight before I remembered and found the hatch slightly open...didn't show up on the dash indicator.

Thanks for this I've just spent some frustating time trying to get the lights to go off & failed. I've now just gone out and "slammed shut" the hatch and voila the lights are working as intended - again no warning that the hatch was open.

The Yeti hatch does seem to need a good slam to shut it. I complained to the dealer and they said that's right, basically.

Yes it seems That Skoda have missed out a door open warning for the rear hatch?

I had exactly the same recently.I eventually stopped at the road side....Slammed the hatch shut (even though it looked closed)...and voila the lights went out.:wonder:

The Maxidot does have a boot open graphic but it's very subtle;

That's wonderful. I never knew Simon Templar lived in my boot!!:giggle:

Thanks for the pics - that helped temendously and now my interior lights go off when I lock the car.

The alarm went off this afternoon and I couldn't find any problems other than the interior lights wouldn't go off so I just turned them off manually. Having read this thread I checked the boot and it wasn't shut properly, so I shut it and locked up and the lights went out - doh.

Turns out my darling grandson had been playing with the fob and must have pressed the centre button. I love him nearly as much as my Yeti:-)

Thanks again.

Yes, there are two setting (AFAIK) for that middle button of the remote (changeable only via VCDS) on VAG cars. On other VAG cars I've had when you press it the boot will be unlocked, yet on the Yeti it uses the other setting in unlocking the boot but NOT releasing the catch. You still have to press the button ON the boot to open it?!?!?! Eh?!?!?! WHY?! What is the point of this boot open button if you still have to press the button ON the boot as well - with your hands full of things?! Really daft. I always forget to change this via the VCDS....... next time I'm around Gizmo's way this is number one on the list.

Johann, what would be the point in releasing the catch? The hatch will not open anyway - you still need to move it upwards by hand ... Or am I missing something? :dull:

True but as on any other VAG car out there you can then grab whatever part of the hatch door you want to open it. My Audi had a spoiler that worked very well or indeed any part of the lip over the number plate. With the stupid system on the Yeti you HAVE to open it from the middle via the button. That defeats the whole point of even having a boot open button on the remote.

I think you'll find it's an issue with the dynamics of the hatch itself. Because it's near vertical when closed, the gas struts can't possibly move it away from the lock without manual assistance to get it to about 35degrees, then the struts start taking the weight. So, even if you change the setting on VCDS, the hatch will immediately click back onto the first position of the catch once the release resets itself.

I doubt that you can do anything to change this, it's all down to the physical design of the car.

This could well be the answer to our issue that we suffered this week.

SWMBO reported the interior lights and the rear wiper failed to work.

I checked them that evening and also noticed the dash display was also locked out and no adjustments were possible.

They remained like it until this morning (3nights !!!) when SWMBO phoned me to say it was all working.

I think you will also find the dash trying to warn you of the 'open' (but not closed).

Least I hope that is the case, I'll check it tonight when I get in.

SWMBO will be annoyed with herself, but I also fell for it.

There are two clicks on the hatch catch, just like any other door. If it's on the first click, then the car treats it as being open, just like the doors. Only when fully home do the interior lights go off (after a short delay). I think the issue here is that unless you look carefully at the Maxidot display, it isn't obvious that it's indicating that the hatch is not fully closed. The hatch part of the graphic is just shown in bold, unlike a door which is not properly closed which is shown wide open (see post #7 above).

Probably a good idea to open the hatch & go & sit in the car with the other doors closed & see how it is shown on the display. Then close it & note the difference!

That defeats the whole point of even having a boot open button on the remote.

Depends how you look at it. Other reason for having this option could possibly be some anti theft protection.

And of course it would be great to have automatically opening hatch :)

I just went to check on my Yeti: if you press the boot open button the boot open pictogram does come on immediately (the rear window in the pictogram goes solid white). Just like TP's pictures above.

I am surprised that the main dealer did not pick up on the symptoms and tell SWMBO that the rear hatch was the issue.

I checked with her when I got home after she had phoned me to say the problem had corrected itself.

She had indeed opened the hatch and subsequently closed it (properly) prior to starting the car to go to the main dealer.

Lesson well and truly learnt.
