Thinking of the New Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I used to own a Mk1 VRS and am now thinking of upgrading to the new one. I have booked a test driver for this Friday :D

Just have a few questions regarding the options available. Do you know if Xenon headlights will be an option? And also does anyone know if the Vrs comes with automatic lights and wipers?

Thanks

James

No to all im afraid! Someone once pointed out on here - if the Fabia had Xenons, no1 would buy a Polo :giggle:

Good point!! Well im sure once i have had a test drive in it i'll soon forget what it doesn't have lol. I have already taken the Polo for a test drive and the fact that it ended up in a bus lane stuck in 7th gear meant i won't be going anywhere near that one.

Thanks for the quick response

Now there's a youtube video i'd like to see. Lol.

As for options , there's loads of threads with peeps weighing up the pros and cons.

Had my test drive on Saturday, I bought the demo model-Green with a black roof. If you order before the start of May you get the vat off. Mine should of been £17075 paid just over £14300.

Once you get used to the gear box you will love it (Probably)

The only thing I miss about my old VRS is the fuel economy... (Numerous threads on this as well)

Test the car, enjoy and report back. Do use search loads of stuff on vRS especially since end of last year now they are being bought and filtering through...

vRS is a cracking car and exceptional value with the VAT deal. Not so sure i'd buy one at its RRP but even still its significantly cheaper than a Polo GTi with the same spec.

Thing that did it for me was the Estate version......only option available for a 180ps DSG small estate car at £14.5k!

Motoring press as far as I can tell tend to preference the vRS over the GTi too; on the most part drives just as well if not better. Bit of an embarassment for VW I think!

For a giggle.

Spec up the cost of a Fabia vRS vs Polo GTI

My Fabia Estate order is £14,800 with Cruise Control

Polo GTI is £20,880.00 :|

I think on balance, the opinion has been that dynamically there isn't masses to choose between them (the vRS probably feels a little taller maybe, the GTI possibly too grown up) but obviously lots to separate them on price! The reviews seem to suggest that the cabin of the GTI is better quality and a nicer place to be, so it's swings and roundabouts. Bang for buck, the press say the vRS is definitely better, but if you were to buy on finance the price difference per month would be negligible, likewise for company car tax if you go that route, so which way would you go...

Loyalty to Skoda is one thing, but I've read a lot about both cars in the press and it's really not as clear cut as we 'Skodaists' might like to think.

I wouldn't say it's an embarrassment for VW, as the GTI is a cracking (if not rather expensive) little car.

I'm due a new company car in July, so I'll be test driving both (and probably the Ibiza Cupra).

Yes, the GTI is certainly better quality inside. But so it should be. The price difference is enough to completely redecorate, re-carpet and re-furnish my lounge!

Hmmm...sorry but not sure I agree with that. On HP/PCP at the moment you can get yourself a vRS hatch for about £13.5k. The GTi 5 door in its basic form is £19.5k RRP with little or no discount available. Thats a 6K difference. That would make a huge difference to a monthly payment.

Sure its not so clean cut on the company car route as you are talking list price for both cars but even still the Fabia vRS will cost significantly less to lease as even then its at least £3.5k cheaper. A guy on here did that comparison and spec for spec the GTi was going to cost him £60/month more, which is alot of money to contribute towards a company car in my eyes.

I'm actually not a huge Skoda fan to be honest, I like them and think they are very good cars nowadays (well they are effectively a re-engineered VW, not alot wrong with that!) but I was really attracted to the vRS estate because of bang per buck and the load space on offer, nothing else comes close particuarly with the VAT deal

I looked earlier at PCP deals based on a brokers price for a boggo spec polo gti and a boggo spec vRS. The Polo was £60 a month more and obviously a higher deposit as both were set at 10%.

I'd rather save the difference and put it towards all the fuel I'll be burning!

You really want a laugh? Go spec up and A1

Let me pick my jaw up off the floor - £23,355 OTR... :|

@pipsyp

Fair point about the price difference, but that's because Skoda are offering this VAT free deal right? If they weren't offering that, it'd be a bit closer. It's definitely not an insignificant amount if you do buy on finance, but won't be as great after (if!) the VAT deal goes away.

On the company car tax thing, the costs are pretty interesting:

Tax year 2011/12

My current 2007 Fabia vRS - £549.40

2011 Fabia vRS (hatch) - £643.00

2011 Polo GTI (3rd) - £670.00

£27/year ain't too difficult to stomach. Pretty tight on those figures (cheapest would be to keep the old one!).

I think the long and the short of it is that the GTI is a more premium product, and you pay for it. It's definitely not the case that you can have the same car, for two different prices with two different badges though.

If Skoda would just slip in the 140 CR into the Fabia a la Ibiza FR then that would be ideal!

Haha - should have gone to SpecSavers!

That's why 10yrs ago I bought my Fabia as the same spec (inc engine) in a Polo was £2,500 more and 2 groups higher for insurance!! :D

EDIT

Just seen you lot saying go spec an A1.... :o :o :o:sick: HOW F******** MUCH!!! That's a full set of winter tyres on 17" alloys, another set of slicks on 17"alloys, and lots of Shell Vpower!!! More money than sense springs to mind!!!!
