LIGHTS?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I have just aquired my first Skoda after being a long time VW owner.

I have just bought a "new" Octavia Elegance Estate pre registered in Dec, with 9 miles on the clock.

The controls are mostly familiar to me but I am puzzled by a light which is in the spot lamp housing but does not work.

The bulb in question is outboard of the spot bulb which works fine.

I thought it maybe a daylight running light but cannot find info anywhere in the manual.

Anyone shine some "light" on this

It is the DRL, and it requires a dealer to activate them if currently off.

Beat me to it! But yes, as mannyo says its a DRL that needs activating by the dealer.

My 2009 manual does have the instructions to switch DRL off and on. But the DRL did need to be first activated by the dealer. I had the anti hijack locks activated at the same time.

Or a member with VCDS can enable for you.

Thanks to all for the rapid response, much appreciated.

Page 52 of the manual....You shouldn't need maxidot or VCDS:

Basically turn on the ignition and straight away pull the indicator lever towards you (as if you are flashing your lights) and move up to the right turn signal. This may not work though as yours are in the fog lights....not very clear.

Lights and Visibility

“DAY LIGHT”*

Switching on daylight driving lights

– Switch on the ignition without turning the light switch out of the position 0 or .

Deactivating the function daylight driving lights

– Pull the turn signal light lever towards the steering wheel up to 3 seconds after

switching on the ignition and at the same time, slide it to the bottom and hold it in

this position for at least 3 seconds.

Activating the function daylight driving lights

– Pull the turn signal light lever towards the steering wheel up to 3 seconds after

switching on the ignition and at the same time, slide it to the top and hold it in this

position for at least 3 seconds.

On vehicles fitted with an information display*, you can also activate or deactivate in

the menu the function daylight driving lights:

 SETUP

 Lights & Vision

On vehicles with separate lights* for daylight driving lights in the fog lights or in the

front bumper, the parking lights and the licence plate light do not come on when activating

the function daylight driving lights (neither front nor rear).

If the vehicle is not equipped with separate lights* for daylight driving lights, the

combination of the low beam, the parking lights (front and rear) including the licence

plate light is used as daylight driving lights.

In some countries, the national legal provisions require that the rear parking lights also

come on together with the separate lights* for daylight driving lights when activating

the function daylight driving lights.

When the daylight driving lights are switched on, the illumination of the instrument

cluster is switched off, however, it is switched on in the position  when it is dark

and the low beam shines with full brightness (100% of the performance).

This procedure works only if they have first been activated from the factory or via VCDS.

It seems a bit hit and miss, some are some aren't. Some dealers activate them prior to delivery, some don't.

Once they are made 'active' they can be turned on and off as mentioned above by following the manual.

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if the drls fail will it show up a warning light on the dash ?

My tail-lights have failed and it is showing up an error on the maxi-dot but since my tail-lights have failed my DRLs also refuse to come on !??:wonder:

No errors on vcds also regarding the drls !!

are these related in anyway

Thanks !

Yes if s a DRL bulb blows it will bring up a warning light, it shouldn't be related to a rear side light not working.

ok,

so I havent got any warning lights for the DRL's

any ideas as to what could be wrong ?

Thanks !

Any ideas as to what could be wrong?

When you say that your tail lights failed, which ones do you mean, brake light, night lights (one of four bulbs) or the fog light?

Have both DRL's failed or just one side?

Both the side lights on the tail lights ......i don't know if the drl's have failed...there isno warning on the maxi dot except for the taillights

Any ideas ?

I assume you've physically checked the DRL's, engine running, light switch to '0'?

It is possible to turn the DRL's on and off using the indicator switch and/or Maxidot (if fitted). This procedure is detailed in the manual, could it be possible that you have accidentally turned them off?

Nope tried everything--- have maxidot ...

Also in in vcds I have selected the option wherein the drls are only on with the auto lights ......

However I even tried unchecking it to see if they still work .!

However no luck at all.!

Any ideas ?!?

Are you certain your DRL's working previously?

It seems hit and miss if they come enabled from the factory, or at least so that they can be set by owners or unset via the car menu's.

Yes they were on .! Had them on for at least 5 months or more .!They didn't come activated from the factory and I had them activated via VCDS.!

Old school thought if your both your tail lights have failed, the fuse?

On the Octy there are 4 tail light bulbs each side so in total 8 are they all out?

BIG Nick :)

Only both the side lights of the tail lights and left hand side reversing light is out .!

AFAIK the fl have a different fuse for the entire right hand side lights and left hand side lights...

So if the fuse had a problem the headlights would've also gone ..!

I'm presuming ... Happy to be corrected if wrong .!

Ok,

Have you been modifying byte18 of the central electrics controller?

Ok,

Have you been modifying byte18 of the central electrics controller?

No checked and rechecked it's correct .!

Even tried to disable and enable it again.!

NO LUCK .!

I'm worried cause it's not showing an error on vcds (except for the tail-lights)

byte18 you don't check or uncheck you type a hex value into it, you'd know if modified it so if you haven't that's good.
