Close Tailgate with remote

Featured Replies

Hi, Last week I fitted a Kufatec tailgate module to my Superb II which has factory mounted electric tailgate.

This has been a quite annoying issue, that it was not possible before to close the gate from the remote and the button inside the car, beside the gearlever.

Just to inform others, that it is not difficult to install. Requires std tools + torx + solder iron + tape/flex. I did it in about 1,5 hour total.

A hint for others that want to do this : VCDS tool can come handy. Somehow during install of the module I managed to confuse the car and my tailgate went into some error state. It was not working at all. After clearing faultcodes with VCDS it all worked as supposed to.

The manual is good, but it did not say how carefull the left-side plastic in luggage compartment should be removed. I was obvious not carefull enough and 2 plastic taps did go off (the rail holding the curtain becomes loose). But I managed with 2 component glue.

BTW: I have nothing to do with Kufatec, personal or finacial.

I don't know why this was not a factory fit.

Phil

This is something I am interested in, any chance you can post a copy of the instructions on here so we can all see what is involved please.

Proberbly health and safety, how can you know the tailgate has nobody obstructing it when its closed remotely, much safer and less likely to have legal problems if there is someone present when the tailgate is closed.

I bought this also and installed it with ease.

Kufatec gives installation instructions as pdf when one buys this item. Instructions are illustrated and easy to follow, they even show how to disassemble the interior parts to get in to the tailgate box.

Only problem in my opinion is that this should be PnP at this price. One shouldn't have to splice wires at this price :)

This is where my main interest is in seeing the fitting instructions.

I attached few images to this post. I take it that Kufatec doesn't want the whole manual in the 'free' internet so I took a few screen captures which shouldn't violate their rights that much :)

For now I could only download German instructions but they are illustrated and wires are also in English.

The wires shown in the images need to be cut and/or soldered with the wires from the Kufatec box.

Hi, sorry for late reply.

I only got the installation manual in German, which I have attached a link to hereunder. German language is equal to my English :-) ... I live in Denmark :-)

In case, google translate could be handy ..

But the procedure in the manual is illustrated with picture. I guess it is okay for getting an impression about the work that has to be carried out.

Still it is unclear to me, why this is not default from the factory.

So with the powered boot option (factory fit) you can automatically open the boot from either key fob or from within the car, BUT are unable to close in the same manner? You have to close manually?

That's strange because I know other VAG cars can do this - I had an Audi Q7 over the weekend and this has both key fob and internal button control for the boot. However you can also close the boot lid from these buttons, in addition there is a button on the bottom of the boot lid (facing you when the boot is open) to close.

I wonder if this is another case of VAG having the technology but not releasing "ALL" of it to Skoda. Perhaps only letting them have the use of the "opening" part???

It was certainly a very useful feature but I would have thought that it would have included some form of safety mechanism similar to how the electric windows work?

Well .. its not manual as on the Octavia. The close button is just located in the tailgate. Operation from factory is that you can open from the remote, button inside at the gear lever or from the outside button in the tailgate. Closing is the inside button in the tailgate.

The Kufatec module adds the functionality of closing from button at the gear lever or the remote.

Maybe it is a way of differentiate the Skoda from the Audi, I don't know.

So far, I am very happy with my Kufatec add-on.

Cheers

Soren.

I must order this! I also noticed they have the solution to watch DVD when driving! :-) I think I will have that too ;-)

Do you have to manipulate the original cables in the car, or is it just plug-and-play so it's easy to go back to original if I want to?

Yes, you need to manipulate the original wiring a bit. The Kufatec module needs to be connected in parallel with the trunk control module. I soldered mine and used original Skoda (TESA) wiring tape to isolate and make it look original.

Ok, good to know :) I will place an order. I'm spoiled with my latest BMW 745 E65 -03, it had everything electric, I miss my soft close of every door and the real fridge in the back...

So everything that makes the Superb even more superb are welcome :)

TV-free box which enables DVD while driving is PnP installable (meaning no wire cutting or soldering needed), but as said already this remote tailgate boxes wires need to be soldered in to the existing wire loom so cutting/soldering is needed.

Kufatec TV-free also has on/off capability if the 'hacking of the speed' confuses your navigation unit or something like that. Other cheaper version don't usually include on/off capability. Sorry for little off topic :)

Thanks for the info mla, it's very helpful :)

You can change the boot to be closed with the console button and keyfob with a simple VCDS change, no need to buy expensive modules. I just had this done at my last service.

As above. A simple VCDS change gives you the functionality to close the tailgate from the console switch and remote. The system has the capability but it's not configured as standard.

I have also fixed this with my VCDS. Done in under a minute... Works great!

Also did mine with VCDS. Can now open AND close using the keyfob, the buttons on the tailgate, and from the inside of the car using the gearstick button.

Absolutely no need to buy the Kufatec module, it's dated back to the days when the Superb 3T VCDS coding to enable all this was not widely known. Only use it if you have no access to VCDS.

One remark though, in order to do this mod you need to have genuine VCDS, I tried with a copy version and it wouldn't let me get past the security code for the Tailgate Module. Genuine RT works just fine.
