Octavia VRS 0-60 as recorded by Dynolicious

Featured Replies

Hey guys.

Tonight I was bored, and decided to try the Dynolicious app for the iphone. This app is supposed to use its inbuilt accelerometer to work out your car's 0-60, 1/4 mile, 0-100 etc. There are a few videos of it on youtube getting more accurate results than a G-tech pro stand alone unit. So after installing the software and mounting the iphone securely in the car I went out for a few runs.

The car was full up with fuel, and with only me on board, and a boot full of some rubbish. ( I would also like to mention the track was damp as it has been raining most of the day )

My best time:

0-10: 1.13

0-20: 2.25

0-30: 3.2

0-40: 4.67

0-50: 5.8

0-60: 7.3

Honestly I thought it would be slightly faster, although I highly suspect that the limiting factor is the wet track and my poor gear changes.

Just wondering if any one else has used this software on their iphone, and what numbers did others get.

(edited cos my keyboard batteries died halfway through the post!)

They don't sound bad times to me, as I wouldn't want to treat my car the way that is necessary to replicate the kind of performance figures achieved in magazine road tests. Dumping the clutch at high revs too many times is only likely to damage the clutch and drivetrain.

In-gear acceleration times are much more relevant in real world driving, which are likely to result in less damage anyway.

This is where the vRS TDi really comes into it's own and surprises quite a few drivers, as the driver of a Z3 2.2 found the other day when I was overtaking him and he tried not to let me pass. :giggle:

Record some 30 to 70 times instead.

0 to 60 will always be hampered by front wheel drive and clutch sympathy.

According to the app:

My 0-30: 3.2

My 0-70: 9.4

Therefore 30-70 through the gears: 6.2 (definitely a lot better than my 0-60!)

If you have a standard vRS, then those figures look spot on, I wonder if the app is available on android, fancy doing this myself.

Does it measure bhp/torque too?

Does it measure bhp/torque too?

It estimates BHP, by the user inputting weight and drive train loss in %. It wont be able to work out torque as it doesnt known what RPM the car is doing at a specific bhp.

It estimated my BHP as 189, with an estimated weight of 1550 (1395 dry weight + 55 fuel + 100 driver and crap in car), and I guessed at a drive train loss of around 15-18%.

This does seem a little on the low side, however i'm not the best at getting 0-60 times, and it was mildly damp out there.

There are a few apps like this for Android. DynoMaster is the one that springs to mind, but don't think they have a free version

Found it mate, 3 quid!

There's another called SpeedView which does have a free version, not sure of the extent of its functionality.

i have one called adyno it was free and is pretty good!

so where do I get a bluetooth ODB adapter for my Octy FL TFSI vRS?

£7.49 for the app is way to much

Mark, here what Torque dev says:

If you buy one of the cheap china OBD2 bluetooth adapters from ebay/amazon, then make sure you have a good returns policy with the seller as quite a few of the cheap units are defective and 'stop working'/etc. If you have a Ford, avoid the cheap ebay adapters as a considerable number of the clone ELM327 adapters have broken J1850-PWM (Ford protocol) support.

Some of the best reliable OBD2 adapters are the Scantool.net adapter, the OBDKey adapter, and PLX Devices Kiwi Bluetooth, ELM327 and other ELM adapters are supported - search on google for where to get them!

The app is 2.95 Pounds.

Here's a video of Torque, but I dont know wich OBD BT is he using

Will order one Kiwi BT soon and let's see how it behaves.

Got a VCDS but a little painful doing measurements with a laptop on the passenger seat. This fits nicely in OBD port and you forget it's there and play with Phone then.
